Abstract

154,795. James, G. L. D. Dec. 1, 1919. Materials, actuating.- A mixture of steam, exhaust gas, hydrogen, and it may be a hydrocarbon is generated in the apparatus and admitted to the induction pipe in advance of the charge from the carburettor. Steam is generated in the pipe 3, which traverses the exhaust pipe 4 and enters a chamber 6 with air from the port 11. The steam and air and some exhaust gases from the pipe 8 enter a cylindrical valve 10 where unburnt fuel in the exhaust is burnt and decomposes some of the steam, the mixture passing through a tapering port 14 in the valve and pipe 13 to the engine.
