Abstract

154,822. Laguesse, F. Feb. 17, 1920. Starting.-Consists of a compact combination of driving and starting gear particularly adapted for motor. cycles. The spindle 12 of the magneto is driven from the crank-shaft 1 through two intermediate pinions 15, 3, of which the pinion 3 belongs to a two-speed gear; and a kick-starter lever 18 is mounted about the axis of the crank shaft 1 and is geared by a sector 17 to a pinion 19 which is connected by a ratchet clutch 20 to the pinion 3 of the two-speed gear. This gear comprises the pinion 3, loose on a countershaft 4 and in mesh with a pinion 2 keyed to the crank-shaft, and a pinion 6 of different diameter, which rotates with the countershaft. but can slide along it either to be connected by a dog clutch 8, 9 to the pinion 3, or to be put in mesh with another pinion 7 keyed to the crankshaft. The pinion 6 is displaced by means of a fork 10 slidable on the shaft 11 of the pinion 15.
