Abstract
171,030. Bruce, J. S. Oct. 23, 1920. Reversing-gearing for a turbine-driven shaft comprises a slidable coupling which connects the motor shaft either direct to the transmission shaft or to a loose sleeve thereon. The loose sleeve is geared through helical gearing on a countershaft to the first wheel of the reduction gearing on a propeller or like shaft. A slidable claw coupling c provided with internal teeth couples the rotor shaft a directly to the transmission shaft b and so through helical gearing m to the driven shaft, or to a loose sleeve j gearing with a countershaft q and so through helical gearing to reverse the driven shaft. A clutch u may be provided in the countershaft q for throwing it out of gear when not in use, and the fork v or other means for operating this clutch may be coupled to the fork w, which operates the claw coupling c to provide for simultaneous operation. The clutch u may be replaced by means for swing- ing the countershaft q bodily out of engagement with the loose sleeve j.
