Abstract

346,418. Variable-speed gearing. STANCLIFFE, C. W., Astor House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 13, 1929, No. 38199. [Class 80 (ii).] A pinion 8 sliding on and rotating continuously with the driven shaft 2 of a speed gear of the countershaft type is combined with a unidirectional clutch consisting of a spring coil 15 carried by a ring 16 sliding on reduced portions 17 of teeth 12 on the driving shaft 1, allowing the driven shaft to overrun in the top gear position. By sliding the pinion 8 fully to the left, dogs 13, 14 come into engagement, giving a solid drive in both directions of relative rotation.
