Abstract
1411693 Law expansion Ni-Nb-Fe alloys INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 3 May 1974 [4 May 1973] 21185/73 Heading C7A A shaped casting having when age hardened a thermal expansion coefficient between 20 and 300‹ C of less than 6Î10<SP>-6</SP>/‹C and a 0.2% proof stress of greater than 350 N/mm<SP>2</SP> at 20‹ C made from an alloy of composition:- Such that % Ni + 0.7 (% Co) - 0.44 [% Nb + 2.85 (% Ti)] - 2(% Ti)/(% Ti + % Nb) = 37 to 40 and % Nb + 2.85 (% Ti) # 10. The total niobium and titanium contents of the alloy may be 4.1 to 10.77 and 0 to 2.4% respectively and the alloy may be melted in air, vacuum or inert gas, investment cast and aged at 550‹C to 700‹C for 1 to 48 hours or if the casting is of large section slow cooled through the ageing temperature range. The casting may be used in rotating and reciprocating machinery e.g. turbine shafts, blades and superchargers employed in propulsion systems.
