Abstract

1387586 Cracking at specified temperatures BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO Ltd and TI (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd 27 June 1972 [20 July 1971] 33922/71 Heading B3N [Also in Division C7] A non-heat-treatable aluminium base alloy containing at least 5% Mg or at least 1% Zn or a heat-treatable aluminium base alloy containing one or more of Cu, Mg, Zn, Si, Li and Mn are made superplastically deformable by including therein 0À3-0À8% in total of one or more of Nb, Ni, Ta and Zr, substantially all of which is present in solid solution. The alloy is made by casting a melt at at least 775‹ C. (e.g. 775- 925‹ C.) to produce a cell size in the casting not above 30 microns and plastically working the casting at not substantially above 550‹ C.
