Abstract
1416264 Low expansion alloy INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 28 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 4412/73 Heading C7A Wrought articles and parts having a coefficient of thermal expansion not exceeding 2X10<SP>-6</SP>/‹C over the range of -150 to + 150‹C and a U.T.S. of at least 750 MN/m<SP>2</SP> at 20‹C are made from alloys containing Ni 31.8 to 38.75% Co 3 to 9% C 0 to 0.05% uncombined Ti 1 to 2.5% Fe and impurities balance such that %Ni + %Co -3.7 (%Ti) = 33.5 to 35.5 %Ni -3.7 (%Ti) # 0.47 (%Fe) %C # 2 (%Ti) + 1 The total titanium may be wholly or partly replaced on an equitomic basis by Nb and/or Al and the alloy may be air or vacuum melted, cast, wrought to shape by hot or cold working (e.g. extrusion forging or rolling at 1,050 to 1,175‹C) and solution treated at 800-1,000‹C for “ to hour, air cooled and age hardened at 600 to 650‹C for 4 to 24 hours. The alloy may be used in cryagenic applications e.g. liquid nitrogen gas container parts.
