Abstract
A method of producing a shaped casting that has, once hardened by aging, a coefficient of thermal expansion, between 20 and 300ºC, of less than 6 x 10-6/ºC and a conventional limit of resistance in the plastic region, at 0.2% deformation and at 20ºC, greater than 350 N/mmº, which includes the operations of making, in air, in an inert atmosphere or under vacuum, a melt containing, by weight, 27 to 47% nickel, 0 to 16% cobalt, 4.1 to 10% non-combined niobium, 0 to 2% non-combined titanium, 0 to 0.1% carbon, 0 to 0.3% silicon, 0 to 0.4% manganese, 0 to 0.2% aluminum and 0 to 0.1% magnesium, the remainder being iron, apart from impurities, keeping the nickel contents in the melt, cobalt, niobium and uncombined titanium such that% Ni + 0.7 (% Co) - 0.44 [% Nb + 2.85 (% Ti)] - 2 (% Ti)/(% Ti +% Nb) = 37 to 40, to ensure the desired thermal expansion properties and conventional resistance limit at 0.2% strain, and cast the melt into air in an inert atmosphere or under vacuum to give a shaped casting.
