Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a high strength, low thermal expansion alloy by adding one or more out of Ti, Al, Nb and Mo to a Fe-Ni-Co type alloy followed by aging.
CONSTITUTION: A Fe-Ni-Co type alloy contg. C<0.05%, Ni 39W48%, Co 1W8% and one or more out of Ti, Al and Nb 1.0W4.5%. This alloy may further contain Mo<4%. An alloy of the above compsn. is refined in a vacuum induction furnace and cast into an ingot. This ingot is hot forged into a part material, soln.- heat-treated at 950°C, and aged at 700°C to give an alloy having a tensile strength of 100kg/mm2 or more at ordinary temp. and an average thermal expansion coefficient of 10×10-6/°C or less at 200W300°C.
USE: Precision instruments and measuring instruments undergoing a remarkable temp. change.
