Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-Mn nonmagnetic steel causing low thermal expansion and having superior ductility, superior toughness and high strength in a wide temp. range below a temp. close to room temp. by adding a specified amount of C, Si, Mn, Cr, N, Al and Ca to Fe.
CONSTITUTION: A high-Mn nonmagnetic steel is prepared having a composition consisting of, by wt., ≤0.5% C, ≤1.5% Si, 16W40% Mn, ≤12% Cr, ≤0.1% N, 2W10% Al, 0.001W0.1% Ca and the balance essentially Fe or further contg. at least one of ≤0.5% V, ≤1.0% Nb and ≤0.5% Mo.
