Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an invar alloy with improved high temp. weld cracking resistance comprising containing Ni, Si, Al, Co, O, N in a predetermined ratio respectively and Mn corresponding to a content of S and Al and, further, specifying a content of Ti and C.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy with low coefficient of expansion, so called invar alloy comprises, other than 34.5W37.5% Ni 0.015% or less S, 0.02% or less Al, 0.05% or less Co, 0.025% or less O, 0.015% or less N and the remainder of Fe and inevitable impurities. Further, in the aforementioned alloy, when both S and Al are contained in an amount of 0.005% or less, 1.2% or less Mn and 0.005% or less 0.12% Ti are contained as well as, as an essential condition, a content of C is 0.035% or less. Under this condition, even if vacuum refining is not carried out, generation of gas bubble is prevented as well as the subject alloy without formation of titanium streak can be obtained.
