Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the resistance to hot cracking and the fluidity in welding alloys by specifying the amount of S, Al, O, Co in a high Ni-Fe base alloy and further specifying Mn quantity according to S and Al quantity.
CONSTITUTION: An invar alloy consists of Ni: 34.5W37.5%, S: 0.015% or less, Al: 0.02% or less, O: 0.025% or less, Co: 0.05% or less, with additional condition that if S is 0.005% or less and Al is 0.005% or less then Mn: 12% or less, or that in either case of S: 0.005% or more and Al: 0.005% or more, or Al: 0.005% or less and S: 0.005% or more, then Mn: 0.5W1.2%, the remaining Fe and unavoidable impurities, and limited quantity of 0.05W0.25% of Si. This alloy is produced by melting process using vacuum refining. The alloy composition improves the fluidity of molten metal in welding operation without reducing the resistance to hot cracking. The use of the alloy in an LNG tank production or the like is effective in enhancing its welding efficiency.
