Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a low thermal expansion "Invar " type Fe-Ni alloy having superior rust resistance and consisting of a prescribed percentage each of Ni, C, Si, Mn and Co as essential components and the balance essentially Fe.
CONSTITUTION: This low thermal expansion Invar type Fe-Ni alloy consists of, by weight, 30W45% Ni, ≤0.04% C, 0.05W0.25% Si, 0.10W0.40% Mn and 0.01W 1.50% Co as essential components and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. To said composition may be added ≥1 kind of element selected from 0.005W 0.100% Ca, 0.50W3.00% Cr, 0.50W3.00% Cu, 0.01W0.50% Ti and 0.01W0.50% Zr. By specifying the alloy composition as mentioned above, the desired low thermal expansion Invar type Fe-Ni alloy with superior rust resistance is obtd. without causing an increase in coefft. of thermal expansion and troubles such as weld crack and stress corrosion crack.
