Abstract

137,349. Sabel, F. J. May 28, 1919. Change-speed and reversing gearing.-Disconnectible reversing-gearing is combined with variable-speed gearing of the expanding-pulley type. The engine shaft 10 drives the first shaft 11 of the expanding-pulley gear either directly through chain gearing 14, or in the reverse direction through a chain 17, shaft 16, and spur gearing 19. The shaft 16 is carried on a swinging frame so as to cause the spur gearing to engage and disengage. The two chain gears are put in and out of action by a double clutch 22 operated by a lever 24. The belts employed may be constructed of V-blocks of metal, leather, rubber, &c. connected by U-shaped metal links; or the blocks may be strung upon a wire.
