Abstract

1355382 Rolling mills DEMAG AG 3 Aug 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 36452/71 Heading B3M A universal roll stand having horizontal and vertical rolls which are vertically removable as a unit from the stand, includes centering guides for the chocks of the vertical rolls, the guides being retractable so that they do not interfere with removal of the rolls. The centering guides 15, Fig. 2, act on the appropriately shaped chocks 7 of the vertical rolls. In the position shown, the guides are retracted and the various chocks of the stand are positioned ready for removal from the stand. The chocks are separated by spacers 12 and supported on rails 35 which extend out of the stand. The guides are movable towards the chocks 7 by hydraulic rams and are retractable by springs 27. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the guides are formed as projecting blocks 17 which co-operate with corresponding recesses in the chocks 7.. In addition to the rolls being removable from the stand, the stand itself is removable from the mill pass line on rails 40. -The screwdown spindles for one of the vertical rolls may be carried on a horizontal beam (Fig. 4, not shown) which is pivotable away from the stand about a vertical axis.
