Abstract

1,070,551. Rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 28, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1963], No. 42576/63. Heading B3M. A rolling mill train suitable for rolling either plates or beams includes a pair of longitudinal guides which are adjustable in height and spacing to accommodate the different kinds of workpiece. The guides (53), (Fig. 3, not shown), are mounted on a support (51) situated between a universal stand 12 and a beam edging stand 13. The guides are movable transversely by a motor-driven threaded rod (49), while the support is adjustable vertically by motor-driven screws (41). Individually driven supporting rollers 36 and 37 are carried by the support. When changing from plate rolling, Fig. 1, to beam rolling, Fig. 2 (not shown), the rolls 16 and 17 and their strippers and guides 22 and 23 are exchanged for similar guides and rolls suitable for beam rolling, the rolls (32) of an edging mill (14) are spaced apart and guides fitted, and the rollers 39A-39D are lowered. Guides (58), (58A), (56), (63) and (63A) are positioned within the flanges of the beam, and the guides (53) are moved together to support the flanges internally.
