Abstract

1402696 Rolling mills SCHLOEMANN AG 15 Oct 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 48519/73 Heading B3M The working roll chocks 11, 12 of a four-high rolling mill are provided with supporting rolls 22, 23 and are supported by guide members 14, 15 interconnected by pistons 19 to control the roll camber. The chocks have projections 16, 17 which engage the guide members, the members being supported for vertical movement by T-shaped guides 13 (Fig. 2). The guides 13 are formed in blocks 2, 3 supporting in the mill housings 1, 2 and containing balancing units 4, 5 for the supporting roll chocks. The pistons 19 act between adjacent chocks to provide adjustable positive or negative roll camber. The blocks 2, 3 carry cylinder units 24 for balancing the upper guide members and chocks, and are connected to the blocks in the opposed mill housing by beams 20. Guide tracks in the beams and on the projections 16, 17 enable the work rolls and chocks to be moved axially out of the mill. Removable keys 28 normally prevent such axial movement. The arrangement of the guide members allows the work rolls to be removed separately, if desired, and without the need to disconnect hydraulic couplings.
