Abstract

1,178,328. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 8 June, 1967 [16 June, 1966], No. 26477/67. Heading B3M. A roll stand incorporates work rolls 1 which are frictionally driven by backing rolls 2, are offset from the common vertical plane of the backing rolls, and are supported to one side by chocks 25 and to the opposite side by intermediate rolls 3 and 4, and rollers 5. Bridges 6 and 6<SP>1</SP>, which extend between the mill housings and include arms 9 which are pivoted by eccentric bolts 12 to the housings, support the rollers 5. Rings 13 surround the end portions of the bridges each ring having a flattened section 14 against which a wedge 15 engages. The positions of the rollers 5 can be adjusted by means of the wedges 15 and bolts 12 to compensate for wear of the rolls. The chocks 25 are biased towards the backing roll chocks 23 and 23<SP>1</SP> by means of levers 29 acted on by hydraulic pistons 28, while arms 19 and 19<SP>1</SP> supporting the intermediate rolls are urged apart by cylinders 30,
