Abstract
792,523. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN AKT. GES. April 13, 1956 [April 18, 1955], No. 11277/56. Class 83 (4). In a four high-rolling mill in which the working rolls 1a, Fig. 1, are offset from the plane of the backing rolls 3a they are supported against rollers 8 on the backing roll housings 6a, by pressure pieces 11a attached to actuating levers 16 on pivots 15 in the backing roll housings 6a. The bolts 13 by which the pressure pieces 11a are attached to the levers 16 lie within the vertex opposite the axes of the backing rolls 3a and supporting rollers 8 so that the working rolls 1a are held in engagement. The levers 16 are actuated by a toggle mechanism 20, 21 which is operated by rotation of a shaft 23 carrying a hexagon nut 22 (not shown), and comprises one arm 21 with an adjusting screw-thread 18 so that the position of the pressure pieces 11a can be preset. In another example the pressure pieces 11b, Fig. 3, are pivoted on arms 26 which are slidably mounted on the backing roll housings 6b and are pressed towards the rolls by fluid-operated cylinders 32 having non-return valves to maintain the pressure pieces 11b rigidly in position. The arms 26 are pivoted on bolts 28 which are slidable along slots 29 in brackets 27 attached to the housings 6b and having set screws 30 to limit the movement. In this example intermediate rolls 36 are mounted between the supporting rollers 38 and the working rolls 1b and the supporting rollers 38 are maintained in driving contact with the backing rolls 3b so that an additional friction drive is transmitted to the working rolls 1b. The supporting rollers 38 are mounted on vertically slidable carriers 47 to which pressure is transmitted from fluid-operated cylinders 54 through levers 52 and links 50. The bearings 40 of the intermediate rolls 36 are freely slidable in grooves 41 in arms 43 which are pivoted to the shaft 42 of the supporting rollers 38. Alignment of the arms 43 and intermediate rolls 36 with the working rolls 1b is maintained by pressure pieces 44 on the arms 43 which are actuated by fluid pressure cylinders 46 and engage the bearings 35 of the working rolls.
