Abstract

1341982 Rolling mills ACHENBACH BUSCHHUTTEN GmbH 15 Jan 1971 [4 June 1970] 2077/71 Heading B3M An arrangement for removing the work rolls 17 and 18 and their chocks 15 and 16 from a four-high rolling mill includes wheels 28 carried by bolts 21 located in bores in the chocks 16, and jacks 7 and 8 which can move the chokes relative to the chocks 1 and 2 of the backing rolls. The bolts each have shoulders for supporting both an upper and a lower chock. Each jack 7 or 8 is supported on a piston 11 fixed to a respective backing roll chock, and is movable by supplying fluid to one or other side of the piston. The jacks serve to balance the work rolls during normal mill operation. To remove the working rolls, the chocks 1 and 2 are held apart by spacers 44 and the work roll chocks 15 and 16 are raised by means of the jacks. This raises the wheels 28 above the level of rail sections 32, 33, 34 (Fig. 6, in elevation). The rail sections 33 and 32, which extend parallel to the roll axes between the lower backing chocks 2a and 2b, can then be shifted axially until the three sections 32, 33 and 34 provide a continuous rail. With the wheels 28 resting on the rail, the upper chocks 15 are supported by rods 19 which carry the wheels, and the two work roll assemblies can be rolled out of the mill.
