Abstract

990,814. Rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 3, 1962 [July 10, 1961], No. 24866/61. Heading B3M. The interfitting work roll chocks 18 and 19 of a four-high mill are adapted to be removed from the mill housings as a unit. The backing rolls 10 and 11 are mounted in housings 14 which are prestressed together by means of hydraulic nuts 34 and 35, spacers 32 and 33 being located between the housings. The chocks 18 and 19 are splined at 24 and 25 to prevent relative axial movement of the work rolls 12 and 13, while plates 26, 27, 39 and 40 prevent axial roll movement relative to the housings. To remove the work rolls, the lower backing roll 11 is lowered, by means of pass adjusting wedges 36 and 37, until the chock 19 rests upon projections 42 and 43 which are manually adjustable in height by handles. The balancing jacks 22 and 23 having been released, the work roll assembly can be moved clear of the mill on to a waiting trolley. Specification 983,304 is referred to.
