Abstract

1354427 Rolling mills MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 14 Nov 1972 52603/72 Heading B3M A rolling mill stand comprises two frames 1 and 2 in which the chocks of a pair of horizontal rolls 4 and 5 are accommodated, U-shaped inserts 12 and 14 being located between the chocks and respective frames. The inserts each have side walls 14a and 14b connected by a lower shaft 15 carrying wheels 16 at its ends, the wheels enabling the inserts and roll assemblies to be moved as a unit out of the stand. The unit is movable on rails to a transversely movable carriage, where a replacement unit may be stored. The stand may be of universal construction and incorporate vertical rolls 6 and 7 whose chocks are supported by the side walls 14a and 14b. The chocks are adjustable by screw units located between the chocks and respective horizontal yokes 42 and 43. The yokes are held against the frames 1 and 2 by pairs of tie rods 47. To enable the yoke 42 to be moved clear of the roll assemblies during roll changing, the yoke pivots sideways about one of the rods (after the other has been released). The other yoke 43 is not pivotable but is movable horizontally by hydraulic rams. When the inserts are positioned within the frames 1 and 2, they are clamped in position by wedges 21 and 22 (Fig. 2) carried by rods 23 and 24. The rods are movable by actuators 38 coupled to beams 34, such that when the rods move downwardly, the beams move upwardly. This causes balancing rods 30 and 31 to move upwardly, thereby urging the upper roll chocks against the screwdown assemblies 60.
