1320196 Rolling flanged bars MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 3 Sept 1970 [13 Sept 1969] 42264/70 Heading B3M A universal rolling mill for profiled beams comprises a pair or three horizontal rolls 4, 5 and more than one pair of vertical rolls 10-13 in a common vertical plane defining more than one roll pass A, B and each pass is adjustable by movement of one or both vertical rolls of each pair. The vertical rolls are mounted on frames 14, 15 slidable horizontally between the horizontal rolls by hydraulic piston-cylinder units 30, 33. One roll 10, 13 of each pair of vertical rolls is mounted in a chock 21, 22 movable in the frame by screws 23, 24 to change the roll separation. The frames are guided on blocks 18 mounted on prestressed tie rods 3 connecting upper and lower stand parts 1, 2. Springs 36, 37 are provided to allow alignment of the rolls under rolling pressure. The frames may be supported by jacks 20 during adjustment. Edging rolls (44), (45), Fig. 3 (not shown), are mounted on the stand parts to size the flanges of the beam. The beam is rough rolled by one or more passes through a stand (50), Fig. 4 (not shown), and then moved transversely to a roller table (54) for a series of passes through the roll pass A of the universal mill (55) the vertical roll separation being reduced between passes. Finally the beam is finish rolled by one pass through the roll pass B. A carriage (60) is provided between the mills (50), (55) with rails (61), (62) to receive the roll set of either mill.
