Abstract
1,024,226. Rolling. DAVY and UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 20, 1963, [May 30, 1962], No. 20801/62. Heading B3M. A rolling mill stand has coplanar horizontal and vertical rolls and chocks, arranged for removal together through a housing window with the chocks of the upper horizontal roll resting on the chocks of the vertical rolls. During rolling the chocks 18A of the upper horizontal roll 18 are urged upwardly against a transverse beam 21 by balancing bars 20, while the chocks 15 of the lower roll rest on a transverse beam 13 supported by screws 14. A frame 12 (Fig. 2, not shown), with outer upstanding arms supports the vertical roll chocks. For roll changing, the beam 21 is raised and held in position by latches 30, blocks 29 are placed on the vertical chocks 24, and the upper chocks are lowered on to the blocks. The beam 13 is lowered by the screws 14 until the chocks 15 rest on the frame 12, and the frame, now supporting all the roll assemblies, is moved transversely from the stand by piston and cylinder or rack and pinion arrangements 32. Wheels 27 of the frame run on rails 28, the wheels normally being held over slots with the frame resting on supports 31. Before removal of the frame, a yoke 34 (Fig. 3, not shown), which extends horizontally of the stand, is horizontally pivoted by a piston and cylinder arrangement clear of the stand window.
