Abstract

1,087,839. Rolling flanged bars. DE WENDEL & CIE. Feb. 11, 1966 [Feb. 22, 1965], No. 6139/66. Heading B3M. Apparatus for rolling flanged bars comprises a three-high roll stand with complementary vertical axis rolls F, F<SP>1</SP>, D, D<SP>1</SP>, H, H<SP>1</SP> positioned between the rolls B, C, E of the stand and has at least one auxiliary stand G<SP>11</SP> with rolls G, G<SP>1</SP> between which the bars are passed after at least one pass in the three-high roll stand. The vertical axis rolls D, D<SP>1</SP>, F, F<SP>1</SP>, H, H<SP>1</SP> are mounted on supports and operate in conjunction with the rolls B, C, E. The position of the supports may be adjusted by means of wedges (I), Fig. 9 (not shown). The roughly formed H-shaped bar is introduced between rolls B, C, D, D<SP>1</SP> and fed thereby. The flanges on the bar are widened and the bar made concentric during this first pass. The bar is returned between rolls E, B, F<SP>1</SP>, F after which it is guided by guides K to the rolls G, G<SP>1</SP> whereby the height of the flanges is reduced to such a dimension that the widening produced by the third pass between rolls B, C, H, H<SP>1</SP> results in the desired final shape. Since the outer working surfaces E 1 of the roll E and the centre working surface C 1 of roll C are inoperative in the above process, the rolls C, E can be interchanged and the central roll B replaced when the operative working surfaces are worn. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 10-13 (not shown), the final pass is performed in a separate conventional two-high roll stand (not further described), and two pairs of auxiliary rolls (L), (L<SP>1</SP>), (M), (M<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 11 (not shown), are provided, one pair (L), (L<SP>1</SP>) operating after the first pass (f 1 ) and the other pair (M), (M<SP>1</SP>) after the third pass (# 3 ). Conventional threehigh roll stands (T), Fig. 14 (not shown), may be used in conjunction with another three-high roll stand (U) fitted with complementary vertical axis rolls and auxiliary rolls (U<SP>1</SP>).
