Abstract

1290096 Rolling metals ISHIKAWAJIMAHARIMA JUKOGYO KK 23 March 1970 14035/70 Heading B3M [Also in Division G3] The shape of a strip 10 being rolled is controlled by varying the camber of a pair of rolls 17, 18 through which the strip passes in response to the form of an image reflected from the strip surface and received by a TV camera 14. The image is produced by a transverse light source 12 or a painted bar, and is distorted by any non- flatness in the rolled strip. The image, as seen on a monitor 15, is divided into sections 1, 2 and 3 which are processed in respective shaping, sampling and comparison circuits la, 1b, 1c &c. Any deviations of the images from a reference signal are fed as output signals to control valves 1e, 2e and 3e. The valves control the camber of the rolls 17 and 18 by means of hydraulic jacks A 1 , A 2 , B 1 and B 2 . In a further embodiment, the image from the TV camera is focused on a CRT, and portions of the image are detected by elements such as phototransistors. The resulting signals are compared with references and any output signals are used to control the mill rolls as before. Pressure-electric transducers, amplifiers, and comparators are provided in feed back loops.
