Abstract

1378845 Rolling mills NIPPON KOKAN KK 27 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 14690/73 Heading B3M The individual stands of a tandem strip rolling mill are successively adjusted to change the degree of bending of their rolls, as a point a in a rolled strip 1 passes the stands, the point corresponding to a change in thickness of the strip due to a variation in the rolling schedule. When the point a reaches a detector 23, pulses from a bridle roll assembly 7 are counted in a counter 14 until a distance corresponding to l 1 is indicated (i.e. the point a has reached stand No. 1). An output signal from a signal generator 17 then passes to a computer 22, and the bending of the rolls in stand No. 1 is automatically altered. By a similar arrangement, pulses from the stands are successively counted down to indicate when the point a has reached the respective stands, and the roll bending of the stands is suitably changed. A compensating circuit 13 between the stands and the counter 14 takes account of any slip during rolling, and of variations in the bridle roll and mill roll diameters.
