Abstract

1,160,417. Rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 15 Dec., 1966 [3 Jan., 1966], No. 121/66. Heading B3M. Strip guiding apparatus for a rolling mill includes guides 1 which, when retracted from the rolls 64 of the mill, move outwardly and either upwardly or downwardly. As shown, the guides 1 are each mounted on a framework 9 which is connected by parallel links 17 and 18 to a normally fixed rail 14, hydraulic jacks 19 pivoting the guides clear of the rolls to the chain dotted position. Each guide is adjustable laterally relative to the frame 9 by means of transverse screws which pass through a threaded lug 7 on the guide. For vertical adjustment of the guides, wedges are positioned between each rail 14 and a fixed structure of the stand, one of the wedges being shifted axially by a screw jack 28, to vary the position of the rail and hence the associated guide.
