1,171,649. Rolling. VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT MOELLER UND NEUMANN OFFENE HANDELSGESELLSCHAFT. 2 Aug., 1967 [5 Sept., 1966], No. 35486/67. Heading B3M. A rolling mill stand comprises at least three vertical rolls with rolling gaps formed between the rolls for successive rolling passes of rods or bars and has guide means at each side of the mill to position the rods or bars for rolling either by having an adjustable stand or an adjustable guide means. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the mill has three grooved rolls 10, 11, 12 forming passes I-V therebetween. The guide means, e.g. a roller table, feed the rod or bar to the mill into rolling gap 1. After the pass the mill stand is lowered by rotating nuts 22 by worms 24 to lower the screws 21. The mill stand is positioned with the gap II for the second pass and successively lowered for passes through gaps III, IV, V. The rolls and the stand adjustment are driven by an electric motor 13. In an alternative embodiment having six vertical rolls, Fig. 2, the guide means are adjustably positioned to align the rod or bar after each pass with the next pass and the stand is fixed. After the last pass the rod or bar is pushed through a finishing stand 32. The trailing end of the rod or bar is moved through the finishing stand by driving the rolls. A modification of this embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), has the rolls arranged so that the guide means is only moved transversely and downwards. A further embodiment, Figs. 5-10 (not shown), has three vertical rolls (50), (51), (52) and either the central roll (51) or the outer rolls (50), (52) are adjustable to narrow the pass which does not completely enclose the work. A finishing stand (53) is preferably provided after the last pass.
