Abstract
1,172,132. Rolling. SOC. NOUVELLE SPIDEM. 5 April, 1967 [25 April, 1966], No. 15599/67. Heading B3M. Apparatus for changing the work and backing rolls of a mill includes a frame having two pairs of parallel rails 12, 12a and 13, 13a which are alignable by means of hydraulic jacks 8, 8a with upper rails 21, 21a in the mill housing, or with lower rails 20. A carriage 14 is supported on an inner pair of rails 13, 13a which extend parallel to the rails 12, 12a and is movable by chains which pass round sprockets 17 and d motor-driven sprockets 18. To remove the work rolls, the upper work roll chocks are lowered until shoes on the chocks are supported by the rails 21, 21a, one chock then being hooked on to the carriage 14. The carriage is moved away from the mill and withdraws the chocks along the inner rails 13, 13a, links connecting the chocks of the two work rolls so that both rolls are withdrawn together. Wheels on the upper backing roll chock run on rails 19, 19a in the mill and on the rails 12, 12a of the frame to facilitate its removal, while the lower backing roll chock is withdrawn with the frame aligned with the rails 20. The apparatus is particularly suitable for mills in which the chocks can be preloaded (Fig. 3, not shown).
