Abstract

1292849 Rolling rails NIPPON STEEL CORP 2 Dec 1969 [9 Dec 1968] 58741/69 Heading B3M A rolling mill for rolling rails incorporates a universal mill stand u and an adjacent pair of edging stands E 1 and E 2 , the edging stands being movable perpendicular to the rolling line so that each can replace the other. After a billet has been rolled in a blooming stand V 1 and a breakdown stand V 2 it is rolled in several reversing passes through the universal stand and the edging stand E 1 . The stand E 1 is replaced by the stand E 2 for the last one or two passes. The rolls of the stand E 2 have larger radii for contacting the corner parts of the head and flange of the rail. The rail finally passes through a finishing stand F. A pair of edging stands may be provided on each side of the universal stand.
