Abstract

Procedure for the preparation of new racemic or optically active 1-phenoxy-2-hydroxy-3-alcoholylaminopropanes of the general formula **(See formula)** where R1 means a radical with the partial formula (CH2) x-CN, (CH2) x-NH2 or (CH2) x + 1-OH, (where x means zero or an integer from 1 to 3), COOR5, (where R5 signifies hydrogen or an alcohol radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms), an alkenyl, alkynyl, alkenyloxy or alkynyloxy radical with 2 to 5 carbon atoms; R2 represents hydrogen, halogen, an alcohol or alkoxy group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group with 2 to 5 carbon atoms, a cyano or nitro group or, together with R1, means the 3,4-methylenedioxy group; R3 means hydrogen, halogen or an alcohol or alkoxy group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R4 means a straight or branched chain hydroxyalkyl group with 3 to 6 carbon atoms, characterized in that a urea derivative of the general formula is hydrolyzed or pyrolyzed **(See formula)** wherein R1 through R4 have the meanings mentioned above and R5 as well as R6 (which may be the same or different) signify hydrogen or an alcoholic radical (preferably lower alcoholic), an aralcohyl radical (preferably the benzyl radical) or an aryl radical (preferably the phenyl radical); and if desired, the compounds obtained are transformed into their salts by the addition of physiologically compatible acid or esters.
