- the threads are guided from a thread storage point to a thread processing point largely freely between thread guide eyelets forming thread deflection points. Through additional devices, the thread experiences sufficient tension to keep it in its guideway. It is also known to guide the thread in a tube in a protected area of textile machinery. With heavy yarns, in particular yarns provided with metal threads, the risk of sagging increases with freely guided yarns. This danger is particularly present in flat knitting machines, where the yarns have to run horizontally and without guidance over long distances from the needle bed ends to thread guides which can be moved in both directions.
