Definitions
- the invention relates to a laying knife, in particular a carpet knife, for cutting floor coverings, consisting of a multi-part bowl handle and a knife blade, which is clamped with its cutting edge at an angle of attack relative to the longitudinal axis of the bowl handle between its shell parts, which can be connected by means of a screw, and which is an internal magazine Include for replacement blades and have a handle contour on the outside.
- Laying knives with a two-part shell handle are known, the two shell parts of which can be connected to one another by means of one or by means of two screws, the screw heads being arranged in a recessed manner and provided with a slot, so that a screwdriver, a coin or the like can be attached to the shell parts for a change separate the knife blade from each other and then firmly connect them again.
- the knife blade which has to be replaced relatively frequently, is seated in a holder at one end of the shell handle and is clamped between the two shell parts. Protrusions inside the shell parts engage in recesses in the knife blade and ensure that the knife blade is held firmly and securely in the shell handle.
- the knife blade protrudes approximately in a straight extension from the bowl handle (GB-PS 1 020 485), or is set at an angle of approximately 45 degrees with respect to the longitudinal axis of the bowl handle (US-PS 3 965 575).
- the shell handle is exposed to considerable forces and is therefore often made of aluminum injection molding or a comparable solid material.
- Known bowl handles are mostly very flat in cross-section and only have approximate handle contours which taper in a wedge shape at the end facing away from the knife blade to form a nose curvature formed on one side (GB-PS 1 020 485).
- the flattened contour of the handle design of the shell handle has the practical advantage that there is space inside the shell handle for the arrangement of a magazine for replacement blades, which are stacked therein, but the disadvantage that easily painful pressure points in the hand of the user with large power transmission are noticeable.
- Known from the literature mentioned above are also round, but then one-piece handles for such laying knives, but the magazine for replacement blades is then omitted and the disadvantage arises that the knife can be poorly guided by hand.
- the knife blade with its longitudinal axis with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the handle shell has a small anticipating angle of attack of 5-10 degrees, in particular 5-8 degrees
- the handle shell in the central region has a cross section with approximately the same extent in has the axes of an imaginary coordinate cross which, at the end opposite the knife blade, merges into an outer cross-section which widens on all sides in connection with the gripping surface.
- the small anticipatory angle of attack of about 5 to 8 or 10 degrees reduces the effort required for cutting, and at the same time the handle is easier and safer to hold due to the cross-sectional expansion. Because the knife is pulled while cutting, the hand of the user, which is closed around the shell handle, is better supported on the shell handle and above all against the rear extension of the handle profile. This desired effect can be supported in that the shell handle in the grip area, especially in the area of the constant widening of the outer cross section at the rear end facing away from the knife blade, is designed with outer cross-sectional contours that approximate a rectangle. In addition, this makes the cross section of the handle pan overall larger (thicker) and adapts better to the hand size of the user than conventional laying knives with a flat handle profile.
- the rear extension of the handle cross-section offers the possibility, especially in the case of longer cuts, to guide the laying knife with one hand in a conventional manner and with the thumb and curved index finger of the other hand the cross-sectional widening of the handle that presents itself as a bead reach behind at the free end to increase the pulling force when making the cut or to relieve the hand guiding the laying knife.
- the laying knife can be gripped with both hands.
- the resulting thicker design of the shell handle resulting from these features of the invention allows the arrangement of a magazine inside the shell handle, in which the spare blades can be accommodated standing on one side edge, so that the spare blades can be removed from the magazine much easier than with conventional lying in the magazine.
- the two shell parts can be connected to one another at the end facing away from the blade by a joint which is integrated into the shell handle without projecting parts, so that the two shell parts when the shell handle is opened for changing the blade can no longer fall apart, which results in a significant improvement in the handling of the laying knife.
- the design of the bowl handle with features according to the invention enables a larger one for holding the two handle parts together Knurled screw can be used, which protrudes with the edge on two sides approximately diametrically opposite to the axis of rotation of the knurled screw from the contour of the grip shell and can be grasped with the fingers of one hand.
- Knurled screw makes it unnecessary to use tools when changing the blade, but on the other hand does not in any way interfere with the handling of the laying knife during use.
- the detectable parts of the knurled screw are to be arranged approximately in the middle of the shell handle with respect to the axis of rotation of the screw and protrude from the shell handle on the side opposite the angle of attack.
- the bowl handle is profiled on this side as a curved back, so that the knurled screw with its knurled edge can be pushed particularly easily over the floor or another solid base, the bowl handle being gripped with one hand.
- the screw equipped with a knurled ring has a threaded pin which engages in a counter thread of a shell part.
- the screw is freely rotatable, but axially immovable, so that the two shell parts can be screwed against one another by twisting the screw and can be braced or separated from one another in this way.
- Another special feature of the laying knife according to the invention is that permanent magnets are arranged on the bottom of the magazine for the reserve blades and in the area of the holding training for the knife blade in the cutting position, through which the knife blades are on the one hand in the magazine and on the other hand in the holding device between the two handle shells are held and can only be removed from their respective position with little force.
- the shell handle of the laying knife can be produced, for example, from plastic or in a manner known per se from aluminum or the like.
- the division of the bowl handle lies approximately in a middle plane.
- Both shell parts 1 and 2 have inner projections and corresponding recesses in the other part, so that the two shell parts 1 and 2 can be connected to one another so that they cannot move.
- the handle shell is a relatively thick handle with approximately round, e.g. circular, elliptical or similarly profiled cross-sectional contours.
- This handle formation 3 of the laying knife merges into a continuous widening 4 of its outer cross section at the free end.
- the opposite end of the grip shell has known holding means 5 for a knife blade 6 shown with dash-dotted lines.
- the one shell half 1 is designed with a particularly deep insert for the knife blade 6, so that the other shell part 2 engages a little in the die-like recess for the insert of the knife blade 6 in the other shell part 1 when the knife blade 6 is inserted. This results in a particularly secure clamping of the knife blade, which prevents incorrect clamping of the knife blade 6 and the risk of injury to the user.
- This knife blade 6 is arranged with the cutting edge with respect to the theoretical central longitudinal axis 7 of the grip shell with a pre-attacking angle of attack. This angle of attack should be between 5 and 10 degrees, in particular between 5 and 8 degrees.
- the two shell parts 1 and 2 are connected to one another at the free end by a hinge, which consists of a hinge pin 8 on one shell part 1 and a fork 9 overlapping them on the other shell part 2.
- a hinge which consists of a hinge pin 8 on one shell part 1 and a fork 9 overlapping them on the other shell part 2.
- the two shell parts in the vicinity of the holders for the knife blade 6 can be screwed together by a knurled screw 10, the head of which Example according to Figures 1 to 3 in which a part 2 is arranged retractable and the shaft can be screwed into a thread of the other part.
- the knurled screw with its detectable head 10 is arranged in the recess 11 in such a way that it protrudes from the grip contour on two opposite sides, as can be clearly seen in FIG.
- the head 10 of the knurled screw can be gripped and rotated with two fingers of one hand.
- the forces to be exerted are sufficient for a secure screw connection of the two parts 1 and 2 of the grip shell.
- the knurled screw 10 is provided approximately in the middle in a recess between the two shell parts 1 and 2.
- This knurled screw 10 engages with its thread 15 in a mating thread of one shell part 1 and is freely rotatable, but axially immovable, in the other shell part 2 with the other end.
- the knurled edge of the knurled screw 10 is guided out of the shell handle on one side or on both sides on opposite sides.
- an exposed end face of the shaft of the knurled screw 10 is provided with a slot 16 or another comparable design for attaching a tool in order to be able to actuate the screw 10 using an auxiliary tool, if necessary.
- This actuation of the screw can also take place by means of an actuating element corresponding to the example in FIG. 7.
- This exemplary embodiment shows an actuator in the manner of a wing nut 17, which can be erected from a rest position sunk in a recess 18 and can then be grasped by hand to actuate the screw.
- a wing nut 17 can be used instead of the slot 16 shown in FIG. 3 for the attachment of a screwdriver or the like in connection with a knurled edge on the screw 10, but also without this knurled edge.
- the two shell parts 1 and 2 can be opened around the joint 8, 9, so that the knife blade 6 can be replaced.
- Replacement blades are accommodated in a magazine 12 arranged inside the handle shell, in which the knife blades are arranged so that they can be clamped between two fingers and removed from the magazine.
- a permanent magnet 13 is arranged on the bottom of the magazine 12, which attracts the steel reserve blades and holds them in position.
- An identical permanent magnet 14 is provided in the area of the holding means 5 for the knife blade 6 in the cutting position, so that the knife blade 6 does not fall out of its position when the handle shell is opened. A small amount of force is required to remove the knife blade 6. Conversely, a new knife blade 6 is pulled into its holding position when inserted by the magnet 14, so that changing the knife blade is made considerably easier.
