Definitions
- the invention relates to a bath or an electrolyte for the electrodeposition of metal layers with embedded particles of non-metallic substance, the bath having a suspension stabilizer for the particles to be stored suspended in the bath liquid.
- galvanic dispersion deposition for short - is a convenient way of producing dispersion materials.
- the particles suspended in the bath are deposited on the cathode together with the matrix metal and are overgrown and incorporated by it.
- the type and nature of the surface-active agent contained in the bath which acts as a suspension stabilizer, and which must properly wet the particles suspended in the electrolyte, play an important role in the quality of a galvanic dispersion deposition. If this condition is not or only incompletely fulfilled, the particles in the electrolyte, even if stirred or moved in some other way, set off too quickly with the result that the concentration of the suspended particles in the bath changes during the electrolysis and the Particle distribution in the deposited matrix metal becomes non-uniform.
- galvanic dispersion deposition can be carried out successfully by adding imidazoline derivatives, which have been given an amphoteric character by attached carboxyl groups and / or sulfonic acid groups, to the electrolyte as a suspension stabilizer.
- Cation-active suspension stabilizers are not known from the patent mentioned.
- DE-A 2064199 describes an acidic, aqueous zinc bath for the electrodeposition of shiny zinc coatings which, in addition to Zn salts and conductive salts, contains dissolved organic brighteners based on oleophilically substituted imidazolines.
- the brighteners can be substituted with polyethoxy radicals, preferably with at least 20 C 2 H 4 O units.
- the invention relates to a bath containing a suspension stabilizer for the galvanic dispersion deposition, the suspension stabilizer being a cation-active imidazoline derivative of the general formula: is in which R 'is a monovalent, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon radical having at least four aliphatically bound carbon atoms or a mixture of several such hydrocarbon radicals; R 2 represents a methylene, ethylene, propylene or isopropylene group; and X is -NH 2 , -NHR 3 , -NR 3 R 4 , -OH or -OR 5 , where R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are methyl, ethyl or propyl residues or polyglycol ether residues with up to five -O- CH 2 -CH 2 units mean.
- Suspension stabilizers in which, in the above general formula R ', a mixture of aliphatic, saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon radicals having 8 to 18 carbon atoms, preferably having 16 to 18 carbon atoms (valley residues), in particular a heptadecenyl radical; R 2 is an ethylene group; and X is a primary amino group or a hydroxyl group are particularly preferred.
- this stabilizer is a 1-aminoethyl-2-alkyl-alkenyl-imidazoline, a mixture of alkyl and alkenyl being used here under "- alkylalkenyl-" Most should be understood with 16 to 18 carbon atoms, as they occur in particular in animal sebum.
- the galvanic dispersion deposition of SiC is carried out at a bath temperature of 50 ⁇ 1 ° C.
- the pH of the bath is about 3.8 to 4.0.
- the dispersion deposits obtained were tested for their adhesive strength to the substrate by bending the cathode sheets by 90 °. It was found that the adhesive strength was excellent in all cases. No embrittlement of the deposits was observed.
- Example 1 is repeated with the exception that 1-hydroxyethyl-2-heptadecenyl-imidazoline is now used as the suspension stabilizer instead of the 1-aminoethyl-2-alkyl-alkenyl-imidazoline.
- a particle incorporation rate of optimally 7.3% by weight is achieved with well-adhering, non-embrittling dispersion deposits.
- Example 1 is repeated with the exception that 100 g / l titanium carbide particles, TiC, with a particle size of 0.4 ⁇ m are now used instead of the SiC particles. An optimal installation rate of 5% by weight of the particles in the deposited Ni matrix is achieved.
- Example 1 is repeated with the exception that 100 g / l aluminum oxide particles, Al 2 O 3 , with a particle size of 0.6 ⁇ m are used instead of the SiC particles. An installation rate of optimally 6% by weight of the particles in the deposited Ni matrix is achieved.
- Example 1 is repeated with the exception that now instead of the SiC particles, 100 g / l titanium dioxide particles, Ti0 2 , with a particle size of 3-5 ⁇ m are used. An optimal installation rate of 8% by weight of the particles in the deposited Ni matrix is achieved.
- a dispersion separation of particles of self-lubricating polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, Fluon "L 170) is carried out from the following bath with the following conditions:
- the particle incorporation rate increases with the stabilizer concentration in the bath, the greatest increase in incorporation rate being recorded when the concentration increases from 0.6 to 0.8 g stabilizer per liter.

Description
- 5 g/I Nickelchlorid NiCl2·6H2O und
- 40 g/I Borsäure H3BO3.
- 430-470 g/I CoSO4·7H2O,
- 15-20 g/I NaCI und
- 25-35 g/I H3BO3
-
-
-
