Description
Es ist bekannt, verdickte Schmiermittel, z. B. Schmierfette, herzustellen, indem als Gelierungsmittel
ein anorganischer kolloidaler Stoff oder ein von einem solchen abgeleitetes oleophiles Produkt verwendet
wird, beispielsweise Silicagel und die kolloidal dispergierten organophilen Derivate von Ton. Hierbei ergeben
sich verschiedene Probleme, da diese anorganischen kolloidalen Stoffe normalerweise hydrophil
sind und so eine unerwünschte Emulgierung der damit ίο hergestellten Schmierfette verursachen, wenn diese mit
Wasser in Berührung kommen. Dies kann unter Umständen zur Zerstörung der Schmierfettstruktur
führen. Außerdem zeigen diese Schmierfette verschiedenartige Korrosionserscheinungen; hauptsächlich
dynamische Korrosion, statische Korrosion und fressende Korrosion.
Es sind Schmiermittel vorgeschlagen worden, die aus einer flüssigen Schmierölbasis bestehen, die mit einem
anorganischen Gel verdickt worden ist, und denen eine kleine Menge eines kationisch-oberflächenaktiven Mittels
zugesetzt ist; um die Wasserbeständigkeit zu verbessern.
Die vorliegende Erfindung stellt eine Verbesserung solcher Schmiermittel dar. Es ist gefunden worden,
daß ihre Wasserbeständigkeit, Konsistenz und ihre Korrosionseigenschaften wesentlich verbessert werden
können, wenn sie zusätzlich eine geringe Menge Wasser, Schwefelwasserstoff oder einer wasserlöslichen organisehen
Verbindung mit nicht mehr als 6 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül mit einem elektrischen Moment
zwischen 1,2 und 2,8 χ io~18 enthalten, wobei diese
Stoffe zur Vereinfachung im folgenden als sekundäre Zusatzmittel bezeichnet werden. Vorzugsweise liegt
das elektrische Moment dieser Zusätze zwischen 1,3 und 2,4 X IO"18. Eine Beschreibung und eine Definition
des elektrischen Moments findet sich in American Chemical Society Monograph von P. C. Smyth,
»Dielektrische Konstante und Molstruktur« (veröffentlicht
1931). Unter dem elektrischen Moment wird das Produkt aus elektrischer Ladung und Abstand
der Schwerpunkte von positiver und negativer Ladung eines Moleküls verstanden, wobei die elektrische
Ladung in elektrostatischen Einheiten und der Schwerpunktsabstand im allgemeinen in Zentimetern
gemessen wird.
Die Gemische gemäß vorhegender Erfindung enthalten im allgemeinen von 25 bis 100 % (vorzugsweise
zwischen 35 und 65 %), berechnet auf das Gewicht des
Gelierungsmittels, eines oberflächenaktiven Mittels sowie ι bis 60%, berechnet auf das Gewicht des
Gelierungsmittels, des sekundären Zusatzstoffes.
Von den sekundären Zusatzstoffen sind Wasser und Schwefelwasserstoff besonders wirksam. Wasserlösliche
organische Verbindungen mit größeren elektrischen Momenten als den oben angegebenen Grenzwerten
ergeben nicht die gewünschten Verbesserungen. Als besonders günstig haben sich die wasserlöslichen
Alkohole, Säuren, Glykole, Amine, Lactone und Ester erwiesen. Zweckmäßig haben diese Stoffe eine aliphatische
Struktur, und gesättigte Verbindungen werden ganz besonders bevorzugt. Besonders wirksame Amine
sind solche, die einen Hydroxylsubstituenten aufweisen und speziell die Alkanolamine, z. B. Triäthanolamin.
Andere geeignete Stoffe sind z.'B. Pentaerythrit, ß-Propioläcton, Polytrimethylenglykol, Glycerin, Diäthylentriamin
und Ameisensäure.
Die vorteilhafteste Gruppe dieser Klasse von Zusätzen umfaßt solche Verbindungen, die im Molekül
mindestens einen polaren Rest für je 3 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten. Ein wesentlicher Vorteil der Einverleibung
der sekundären Zusatzstoffe in anorganisch gelierte. Schmierfette besteht in einer Einsparung an
oberflächenaktiven Stoffen. Diese machen die Oberfläche des Gelierungsmittels hydrophob, so daß zur
Erzielung einer befriedigenden Wasserbeständigkeit eine gewisse Mindestmenge des oberflächenaktiven
Mittels im Verhältnis zu der Oberflächenausdehnung des Gelierungsmittels angewandt werden muß.
Die Schmiermittelbasis besteht aus natürlichen und/ oder synthetischen Schmiermitteln, z. B. Mineralölen
bzw. Mineralölgemischen mit einem Viskositätsbereich von etwa 50 bis 2000 Saybolt-Sekunden bei 37,7°
und einem Viskositätsindex von unter 0 bis etwa 80, Gemischen aus Mineralöl und fetten Ölen, wie
Ricinusöl oder Linolöl, synthetischen Schmierölen, die z. B. nach dem Fischer-Tropsch-, Synthal-, Synthine-
und verwandten Verfahren, nach dem Bergius- oder nach dem Voltolisierungsverfahren hergestellt sind,
sowie synthetischen Schmierölen aus organischen Estern, von welchen'insbesondere die Ester von Säuren
des Phosphors einschließlich der Ester von'Phosphorsäuren,
Phosphonsäuren und Phosphinsäuren besonders bevorzugt werden, oder synthetischen Schimermitteln
aus Phosphinoxyden.
Sehr gut geeignet sind ferner synthetische Schmieröle, die durch Polymerisieren von Alkylenglykolen bei
erhöhter Temperatur in Anwesenheit von Katalysatoren, wie Jod oder Jodwasserstoffsäure, sowie Mischpolymerisate,
die aus Epoxyden bei erhöhten Temperaturen und in Anwesenheit von KOH oder eines
BF3-Ätherkomplexes als Katalysator hergestellt worden
sind. Auch schwefelhaltige Polymerisate, Polymerisate aus sauerstoffhaltigen heterocyclischen Verbindungen,
organische siliciumhaltige Polymerisate und halogenierte Aromaten kommen in Betracht.
Als anorganische kolloidale Gelierungsmittel können in den Gemischen gemäß vorliegender Erfindung sowohl
amorphe wie kristalline Stoffe verwendet werden.
Geeignete amorphe Gele sind die anorganischen gelbildenden Oxyde, Hydroxyde, Sulfide, Sulfate, Carbonate
und Phosphate. Diese Verbindungen können für sich allein oder in Kombination verwendet werden, so
daß die jeder Verbindung eigentümlichen Eigenschaften.in günstiger Weise ausgenutzt werden. Vorzugsweise
werden Gemische eines Oxyds eines mehrwertigen Metalls mit Siliciumoxyd verwendet, in
welchen die Menge des. Oxyds des mehrwertigen Metalls mehr als etwa 3 %, aber weniger als etwa
40%, berechnet auf das Gesamtgewicht des anorgarüschen Gelierungsmittels, beträgt.
Als besonders geeignet haben sich Tone mit verhältnismäßig starken Basenaustauscheigenschaften erwiesen,
welche leicht ersetzbare Kationen enthalten, z. B. die Montmorillonite, Attipulgit, Zeolithe und
Fullererden.
Die Basenaustauscheigenschaften der verschiedenen angeführten Tone, ausgedrückt in Milliäquivalenten
der austauschbaren Base auf 100 g Ton, liegen zwischen etwa 15 und etwa 100. Die Montmorillonite haben
verhältnismäßig starkes Basenaustauschvermögen, gewöhnlich zwischen 60 und 100. Im allgemeinen sind
die Tone mit höheren Basenaustauschvermögen (über etwa 25) besonders gut brauchbar.
Die an sich infolge ihrer geringen Oberflächenausdehnung nicht zu einer Verdickung oder Gelierung
flüssiger, ölartiger Stoffe geeigneten kristallinen Stoffe können durch Umsetzung mit einem kationisch-oberflächenaktiven
Mittel entsprechend modifiziert werden.
Eine wichtige Klasse oberflächenaktiver Mittel besteht
aus den kationisch-oberflächenaktiven Mitteln, welche eine hydrophobe Gruppe im Kationteü der
Verbindung enthalten.
Die kationisch-oberflächenaktiven Mittel können Amine oder Ammonium-, Phosphonium-, Arsonium-,
Stibonium-, Oxonium-, Sulfonium- oder, Selenonium-Verbindungen sein.
Eine bevorzugte Gruppe dieser Art sind die aliphatischen Amine, insbesondere solche mit 8 bis 36 Kohlenstoffatomen
im Molekül. Andere geeignete Verbindüngen sind die Teilamide von Polyoxyalkylenpoly-
aminen, für welche das Teilamid des Kondensationsproduktes von Epichlprhydrin und Ammoniak ein
typisches Beispiel darstellt.
An Stelle von Epichlorhydrin können andere Reaktionskomponenten verwendet werden, wie die Μοηό-halogenepoxyalkane,
Monohalogendioxyalkane und Dihalogenhydrine. Auch die Teilamide von PoIyalkylenpolyaminen
sind wirksame kationisch-oberflächenaktive Mittel zur Verwendung in den Gemischen
nach vorliegender Erfindung.
Neben den oder an Stelle der vorstehend erwähnten kationisch-oberflächenaktiven Mittel können auch
andere und insbesondere die anionisch-oberflächenaktiven Mittel verwendet werden, welche im anionisehen
Teil des Moleküls einen hydrophoben Rest enthalten.
Wenn sowohl ein anionisch- als auch ein kationischoberflächenaktives
Mittel verwendet wird, liegt das erstere vorzugsweise in einem Verhältnis von 1 bis
4 Mol dieses Mittels für jedes Mol des kationisch-oberflächenaktiven
Mittels vor. Besonders zweckmäßig liegt dieses Verhältnis zwischen 2: 1 und 3:1.
Sehr geeignete Verbindungen dieser Art sind die Fettsäuren, insbesondere Öl-, Linol- und Linolensäure,
sowie die aus natürlichen Au.sgangsprodukten gewonnenen Säuren, wie Tallölsäuren oder Säuren
tierischer und pflanzlicher Öle. Vorzugsweise besitzen diese Säuren zwischen 12 und 24 Kohlenstoffatomen
im Molekül. Auch Oxyfettsäuren, welche einen oder mehrere Hydroxylsubstituenten enthalten, können
verwendet werden.
Von den alkenyl- oder alkylsubstjtuierten aliphatischen
Dicarbonsäuren, deren Alkenyl- oder Alkylreste im allgemeinen 8 bis 25 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten,
sind die Alkenylderivate der Bernsteinsäure bevorzugt. Weiter sind die oleophilen hochmolekularen Sulfonsäuren
und vorzugsweise die öllöslichen Kohlenwasserstoffsulfonsäuren mit Molgewichten über etwa 300
wirksam, welche bei der Gewinnung schwerer Schmieröle und von Weißölen bei der Erdölraffination anfallen.
Außer den freien Säuren können auch die Salze und
(sofern die Säuren mehrbasisch sind) die Teilester in den erfindungsgemäßen Gemischen verwendet werden.
Die Einverleibung größerer Mengen des Gelierungsmittels als· lediglich zur Verdickung des flüssigen ölhaltigen
Materials erforderlich ist, kann zur Bildung einer Schmierfettstruktur führen. Die Gemische gemäß
vorliegender Erfindung enthalten im allgemeinen von ι bis 20 Gewichtsprozent und vorzugsweise 3 bis
15 Gewichtsprozent des Gelierungsmittels, berechnet auf das Gesamtgemisch.
Man kann nun erfindungsgemäß die Konsistenz der Schmiermittel erhöhen, indem man diesen die sekundären
Zusatzstoffe einverleibt. Bei einer bestimmten Konzentration des Gelierungsmittels kann die Konsistenz
eines Schmiermittels variiert werden, indem man die Konzentration des sekundären Zusatzstoffes
ändert, während die Konzentration der beiden übrigen Bestandteile des Schmierfettes beibehalten wird. Der
sekundäre Zusatzstoff soll vorzugsweise in solcher Menge vorliegen, daß mindestens etwa 35 °/0 der Oberflächenausdehnung
des Gelierungsmittels mit einer monomolekularen Schicht desselben bedeckt werden.
Eine Erhöhung der Menge des sekundären Zusatzes über eine etwa 100 °/0- Bedeckung der Oberfläche
hinaus führt keine wesentliche Steigerung in der Schmierfettkonsistenz herbei. In Gewicht ausgedrückt,
soll die Menge des sekundären Zusatzstoffes im allgemeinen zwischen etwa 1 und etwa 6o°/0
(vorzugsweise zwischen etwa 2 und etwa 25%), berechnet auf das Gewicht des anorganischen Gelierungsmittels,
liegen.
Die Schmierfette können beispielsweise hergestellt werden, indem man ein Hydrogel des anorganischen
Gelierungsmittels mit dem oberflächenaktiven Mittel behandelt und mit dem ölartigen Material vermischt.
Die Bestandteile werden dann einer Mahlbehandlung unterworfen, um ein hochdispergiertes System des
Hydrogels in der Ölphase zu bilden, dieses Gemisch wird anschließend entwässert und durch weiteres
Mahlen oder andere geeignete Maßnahmen zur Erzielung der kolloidalen Struktur behandelt, so daß eine
gute Schmierfettstruktur erhalten wird. Wenn sowohl ein kationisch- als auch ein anionisch-oberflächenaktives
Mittel verwendet wird, wird das Gelierungsmittel vorzugsweise mit dem ersteren behandelt und
der Schmierölbasis einverleibt, welches das anionischoberflächenaktive Mittel enthält, oder dieses wird nach
der Entwässerungsstufe zugesetzt.
Das Gel kann nach seiner Bildung.-aber vor der Vermischung
mit dem Öl getrocknet werden.
Es hat sich als besonders günstig erwiesen, den sekundären Zusatz zu dem Gemisch aus Gelierungsmittel,
oberflächenaktivem Mittel und ölartigem Material erst zuzusetzen, nachdem praktisch das gesamte
Wasser aus diesem Gemisch entfernt worden ist. Diese Art der Schmierfettbildung ist besonders wirksam,
wenn ein basisches Gelierungsmittel, wie Magnesiumoxydgel, verwendet wird.
Die Schmierfettherstellung an sich ist jedoch nicht Gegenstand der Erfindung. Maximale Effekte sowohl
hinsichtlich der Schmierfettkonsistenz als auch in bezug auf die Korrosionsverbesserung werden erzielt,
wenn ein Gemisch von Wasser und einer organischen Verbindung zugesetzt wird, wobei diese Wirkungen
von längerer Dauer sind, als wenn ein einzelner sekundärer Zusatzstoff verwendet wird.
Die nachfolgenden Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung noch näher.
Ein Hydrogel aus 5 Teilen Magnesiumoxyd und 95 Teilen Siliciumoxyd wurde bei etwa 90° mit 40 °/0,
berechnet auf das Trockengewicht des Gels, des Teilamids
eines Epichlorhydrinammoniak-Kondensations-Produktes vermischt, dann unter Rühren einem
Schmieröl von mittlerer Viskosität einverleibt und zur Erzielung eines kolloidalen Zustandes durch eine
Pumpe geführt. Das so erhaltene Gemisch enthielt 10 Gewichtsprozent des Gelierungsmittels und wurde
durch Verdampfen von Wasser praktisch wasserfrei gemacht. Darauf wurde die Mischung zwecks Erzeugung
einer Schmierfettstruktur gemahlen. Proben des erhaltenen Schmierfettes wurden durch Zugabe kleiner
Wassermengen modifiziert und darauf hinsichtlich der Konsistenz geprüft. Die Ergebnisse dieser Prüfung
sind in der nachstehenden Tabelle II verzeichnet, wobei unter »Mikropeneträtioncr die Werte der Standardpenetration
angegeben sind, welche gewöhnlich bei handelsüblichen Schmierfetten aber beim Laufen
in einer kleinen Apparatur erhalten werden.

Ein Schmierfett, welches dem im Beispiel 1 beschriebenen
ähnlich war, enthielt 10 Gewichtsprozent SiIiciumoxyd
als einziges Gelierungsmittel und 45 Gewichtsprozent,
berechnet auf das Siliciumoxyd, des gleichen oberflächenaktiven Mittels. Nach praktisch
vollständiger Entwässerung des erhaltenen Schmierfettes wurden die in der Tabelle II angegebenen sekundären
Zusätze mit einzelnen Proben vermischt und die Konsistenz der erhaltenen Mischungen bestimmt.

Es wurde ein anderes Schmierfett aus den gleichen Bestandteilen wie nach Beispiel 2 hergestellt, welches
aber 8 Gewichtsprozent des Gelierungsmittels enthielt und eine etwas weichere Konsistenz aufwies. Muster
dieses Schmierfettes wurden durch Zusatz von Wasser oder von Äthylenglykol modifiziert. Es wurde festgestellt,
daß diese Zusätze die Konsistenz des Schmierfettes wesentlich erhöhten.

Es wurde das-im Beispiel 2 beschriebene Schmierfett
verwendet und Anteile desselben durch .Zugabe von I Gewichtsprozent Milchsäure, berechnet auf das
Gesamtschmierfett, modifiziert. Proben des nicht modifizierten und des modifizierten Schmierfettes
wurden verschiedene Zeiten auf 115° erhitzt und ihre Konsistenz bestimmt. Die Tabelle IV zeigt, daß ohne
Zusatzstoff das Schmierfett sich während der Wärmebehandlung stark erweichte, während in Anwesenheit
von Milchsäure die ursprüngliche Konsistenz des Schmierfettes erhalten blieb.
Muster des gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellten Schmierfettes
wurden durch Zusatz von Äthylenglykol und Wasser modifiziert. Die Tabelle V zeigt die Wirkung
der verschiedenen Mengen der beiden Zusätze Schmierfett hinsichtlich dessen Konsistenz.

Es wurden Schmierfette hergestellt,-welche n,40/0
eines Gemisches aus 5 Teilen Magnesiumoxyd und 95 Teilen Siliciumoxyd enthielten. Das im Beispiel 1
beschriebene oberflächenaktive Mittel lag in einer Menge von etwa 55 Gewichtsprozent, berechnet auf
das Gelierungsmittel, vor. Hierdurch wurden praktisch etwa 60 °/0 der Geloberfläche mit einermonomolekularen
Schicht des oberflächenaktiven Mittels überzogen. Diesem Schmierfett wurden nach der Entwässerung
bestimmte Wassermengen zugesetzt und die erhaltenen modifizierten Schmierfette auf dynamische Korrosion no
und Konsistenz geprüft. Die nachstehende Tabelle zeigt die Wirkung dieser Zusätze auf die Eigenschaften
der erhaltenen Schmierfette.

Claims (4)
- Das in der Tabelle angegebene Muster A entspricht dem Schmierfett nach der praktischen Entwässerung, aber vor jedem Wasserzusatz.Die Bestimmung des Wassergehalts wurde nach der Methode von Fischer durchgeführt, wobei das Wasser mit Xylol aus dem Muster abdestilliert wurde. Es ist festzustellen, daß die nachfolgende Zugabe von Wasser (Muster B bis H) eine wesentliche Verbesserung sowohl hinsichtlich der dynamischen Korrosion alsίο auch der Erhöhung der Konsistenz herbeiführte. Die in der Spalte »Dynamische Korrosion« angegebenen Werte sind willkürliche Beurteilungszahlen, welche an Lagern festgestellt wurden, die mit dem Schmierfett geschmiert und mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 1750 Umdrehungen/Min, unter einer Belastung von 240 kg während 21Z2 Stunden in Betrieb gehalten wurden. 5 Minuten nach Beginn der Prüfung und darauf in halbstündigen Zwischenräumen wurden 2 ecm einer 0,05%igen Natriumchloridlösung auf dasao arbeitende Lager gegeben. Nach- beendeter Prüfung wurde die Wälzlageranordnung auf Korrosion untersucht. Die Kennzahl 10 entspricht einem praktisch korrosionsfreien Lager, während die Zahl 4 für Lager verwendet wird, welche nach den beschriebenen Prüfbedingungen noch genügen. Niedrigere Werte werden für stark korrodierte Lager verwendet.Daß die Zugabe von Wasser die Wasser- und Emulsionsbeständigkeit der Schmierfette nicht ungünstig beeinflußt, ist dem folgenden Beispiel zu entnehmen.Beispiel 7Es wurden Schmierfette hergestellt, die 10 Gewichtsprozent (berechnet auf das ganze Schmierfett) .Siliciumdioxydgel und 25,35 bzw. 50 Gewichtsprozent (berechnet auf das Siliciumdioxyd) eines oberflächenaktiven Mittels enthielten, wobei dasselbe, wie im Beispiel ι verwendet wird. Diese wasserfreien Schmierfette hatten Wasseremulsionszahlen über 100%: Die Wasseremulsionszahl wird in der folgenden Weise bestimmt:Wasser wird dem Schmierfett in Anteilen von je 2 ecm jeweils nach einer Rührperiode von 2 Minuten zugesetzt, bis die Gesamtmenge eines Zusatzes von 2 ecm Wasser von dem Schmierfett bei einer folgenden Rührperiode von 2 Minuten nicht mehr absorbiert wird. Dann werden 4 ecm Wasser zugesetzt, und das Rühren wird während 4 Minuten fortgesetzt. Die Gesamtmenge des absorbierten oder emulgiertenSo Wassers in Prozent wird als Zahlenwert für die Prüfung angesetzt.Wie nun aus den folgenden Versuchsergebnissen hervorgeht, wird die Wasseremulsionszahl durch die Zugabe von 0,5 oder 1,5 Gewichtsprozent Wasser nicht ungünstig beeinflußt. Bei einem Wassergehalt von 1,5 Gewichtsprozent und einem Gehalt an dem oberflächenaktiven Mittel von 35 und 50 °/0 tritt sogar eine Verbesserung der Wasseremulsionszahl ein.

Schmierfette auf natürlicher und/oder synthetischer Schmierölgrundlage, die ein anorganisches Gel oder ein Gemisch solcher Gele als Verdickungsmittel sowie einen geringen Gehalt, vorzugsweise 25 bis 100 Gewichtsprozent und insbesondere 35 bis 65 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gelierungsmittel, eines oberflächenaktiven Mittels enthalten, gekennzeichnet durch einen geringen Gehalt an Wasser, Schwefelwasserstoff oder einer wasserlöslichen organischen Verbindung mit nicht mehr als 6 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül und einem elektrischen Moment zwischen 1,2 und 2,8 χ ίο 18. - 2. Schmierfette nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Gesamtmenge an Wasser, Schwefelwasserstoff und/oder ' wasserlöslicher organischer Verbindungen 1 bis 60 Gewichtsprozent und vorzugsweise 2 bis 25 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das anorganische Gelierungsmittel, beträgt.
- 3. Schmierfette nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die wasserlösliche organische Verbindung mit nicht mehr als 6 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül ein aliphatisches Glykol, z. B. Äthylenglykol, eine aliphatische Carbonsäure, ζ. Β. loo Milchsäure, oder ein Amin, vorzugsweise ein hydroxylgruppenhaltiges Amin, ζ. B. ein Alkanolamin ist.
- 4. Schmierfette nach Anspruch 1 bis 3, gekennzeichnet durch einen Gehalt an der wasserlöslichen organischen Verbindung im Gemisch mit Wasser.
