Description
Öle wurden bisher durch Mischen mit anderen Materialien, wie Seife, Graphit, Talk und Diatomeenerde,
verdickt. Neuerdings wurden Verdickungsmittel verwendet, die der Mischung bessere Wärmestabilität
verleihen. Diese Mittel umfassen anorganische Gele von Siliciumoxyd, Magnesia, Aluminiumoxyd usw.
Es wurde gefunden, daß diese Materialien nicht nur zur Erzeugung von verdickten Ölen, sondern auch für
die Herstellung von Schmierfetten in Gegenwart oder Abwesenheit eines anderen schmierfettbildenden Mittels
benutzt werden können. Außerdem sind solche verdickten Öle oder Schmierfette brauchbar, wo übermäßige
Temperaturen vorkommen und gewöhnliche Schmierfette, die Schmieröl und eine Seife enthalten,
zum Zerfall oder zur Zersetzung neigen.
Obgleich Schmiermittel, die diese anorganischen Gele enthalten, erhöhte Wärmebeständigkeit aufweisen,
hat ein Hauptnachteil ihre Anwendung eingeschränkt: anorganische Gele dieser Art sind gegenüber
der Wirkung von Wasser empfindlich, und infolgedessen arbeiten Schmiermittel, in denen sie enthalten
sind, in Gegenwart von Wasser gewöhnlich nicht zufriedenstellend, weil das gelbildende "Mittel, wenn
es von Wasser angegriffen wird, dazu neigt, sich aus der Mischung abzusetzen und so die gewünschte
Struktur des verdickten Schmieröls oder Schmierfettes zerstört.
Die Erfindung schafft ein Mittel zur Stabilisierung anorganische Gele enthaltender Schmiermittel und
ermöglicht die Herstellung von Schmiermitteln oder Schmierfetten, die sowohl hohe Wärmebeständigkeit
als auch verbesserte Haltbarkeit gegenüber Wasser zeigen und außerdem einen verbesserten Viskositätsindex aufweisen.
Es wurde gefunden, daß Schmiermittel auf Ölgrundlage,
insbesondere auf Mineralschmierölgrundlage, die durch anorganische Gele, wie Silicagel, verdickt sind,
durch die Gegenwart einer kleineren Menge, vorzugsweise ι bis 25 °/0 des Gels, kationisch-oberflächenaktiver
Mittel, wie sie im folgenden näher beschrieben werden, wesentlich verbessert werden können.
Außerdem wurde gefunden, daß ein vorzügliches Verfahren zum Einbringen des oberflächenaktiven
Mittels in die Masse darin" besteht, dieses Mittel in einem Lösungsmittel zu lösen, das anorganische Gel
zuzugeben, das Lösungsmittel derart zu verdampfen, daß ein dünner Überzug des Mittels auf der Oberfläche
der Gelteilchen zurückbleibt, und anschließend das modifizierte Gel dem öligen Material, das verdickt
werden soll, einzuverleiben.
Kationisch-oberflächenaktive Mittel, d. h. oberflächenaktive Mittel, welche eine hydrophobe Gruppe
im> Kationteil des Moleküls enthalten, die zur Verbesserung der gelierten Kompositionen nach vorliegender
Erfindung benutzt werden können, umfassen unter anderem die höheren aliphatischen Amine,
quartäre Ammoniumverbindungen, Polyamine, cyclische Amine mit im Kern oder außerhalb des Kerns
stehenden Amingruppen und ihre Salze, Amide und andere Derivate, z. B. solche, die Chlor-, Oxy-, Äther-,
Ester-, Sulfo- oder Nitrogruppen enthalten, sowie auch die analogen Schwefel-, Phosphor-, Arsen- oder
Antimonverbindungen.
Geeignete aliphatische Amine sind solche, die mindestens zwölf Kohlenstoffatome haben, wie Dodecylamine,
z. B. Laurylaniin, Heptadecylamine und andere primäre, sekundäre oder tertiäre aliphatische Amine,
vorzugsweise solche, in denen sich mehr als 11 Kohlen-Stoffatome
in einer geraden Kette befinden.
Quartäre Ammoniumverbindungen, die verwendet werden können, sind Dimethyloxyäthyldodecylammoniumhydroxyd,
Dimethylbenzyllaurylammoniumchlorid, Dimethylbenzyloctadodecylammoniumchlorid, die Ölsäureester von Benzyloxyäthylmorpholiniumchlorid
usw.
Andere Produkte von besonderem Interesse sind die bei der Chlorierung und anschließenden Ammonolyse
von festem Paraffin erhaltenen Amine, die durch Hydrierung des Kondensationsproduktes von Acrolein
und Ammoniak erhältlichen Polyamine und/oder Salze und/oder Amide solcher Polyamine, die Addukte
von Schwefelwasserstoff und Diallylamin usw.
Brauchbare cyclische Amine sind die alkylierten Imidazoline, wie Heptadecylimidazolin, alkylierte
Pyrimidine, substituierte Acridine, Benzidin und Diphenylamin.
Andere geeignete kationisch-oberflächenaktive Mittel
sind besonders teilweise verseifte Polyalkylenpolyamine, wie die Polyäthylenpolyamine, und Amidoamine
einschließlich ihrer Salze, wie z. B. Oleylamidoäthylaminoleat und Aminoäthylstearamid.
Als Gele sind besonders die Ärogele von anorganischen Stoffen einschließlich Siliciumdioxyd, Magnesiumoxyd,
Aluminiumoxyd und anderer gelbildender Metalloxyde und -hydroxyde, Sulfide usw. verwendbar.
Ein typisches Verfahren zur Herstellung solcher Ärogele besteht darin, daß Siliciumoxyd durch
Zusetzen von Schwefelsäure zu Natriumsilicatlösung gefällt und das Gel von Salzen mit Wasser verhältnis- g5
mäßig freigewaschen wird. Diese Masse wird jetzt in der Industrie als Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung
von Silicagel verwendet. Wird das Wasser aus dem Gel in diesem Zustand verdampft, dann
schrumpft das Gel beträchtlich; dies wird anscheinend y0
durch die Kraft verursacht, welche auf die feste Phase des Gels durch die Oberflächenspannung der Flüssigkeit
ausgeübt wird, wenn sie in den Poren des Materials zurückweicht. Diese Materialien werden als Xerogele
bezeichnet. Zum Unterschied von den Xerogelen bestehen die Ärogele aus der ursprünglichen festen
Phase des Gels in dem gleichen Zustand, wie er während der Füllung mit der quellenden Flüssigkeit
herrscht. Ärogele werden bequem in der Weise gewonnen, daß man das Gel bis zu der kritischen
Temperatur der darin enthaltenen Flüssigkeit erhitzt und den Druck in dem System genügend hoch hält,
daß die flüssige Phase bis zur Erreichung der kritischen Temperatur flüssig bleibt. Bei diesem Punkt
wird die Flüssigkeit ohne Bildung von Menisken an einer Gas-Flüssigkeits-Grenzschicht in den gasförmigen
Zustand übergeführt. Der Porositätsgrad kann in weitem Maße dadurch überwacht werden, daß die
Konzentration von Siliciumoxyd in dem Gel während des Fällens kontrolliert wird. Diese Ärogele können
in diesem Zustand zur Herstellung der vorliegenden Zusammensetzungen verwendet oder zu einem feineren
Zustand der Aufteilung, z. B. in einer Steinkugelmühle, vermählen werden,
Es erwies sich als wünschenswert, feingemahlenes Ärogel bei der Herstellung verdickter Schmieröle zu
verwenden, weil eine glattere, gleichförmigere Suspension erhalten wird. Jedoch wird eine größere
Menge gemahlenes Gel für die Erzielung eines gegebenen Verdickungsgrades in einem Öl benötigt, als
wenn ungemahlenes Gel benutzt wird.
Die öligen Materialien, die bei der Herstellung der Massen nach vorliegender Erfindung verwendet werden
können, sind vorzugsweise solche, die Schmiereigenschaften haben, und schließen Leuchtpetroleum,
Gasöl, Schmieröl und andere Erdölfraktionen ein. Andere brauchbare ölige Substanzen sind Pflanzenöle,
wie Terpentinöl, Maisöl, Baumwollsaatöl und Ricinusöl,
tierische Öle, wie Klauenfett, und Fischöle, wie Spermöl, no
Ölige Substanzen, die z. B. durch Halogenieren, Hydrieren, Alkylieren und ähnliche Mittel modifiziert
sind, sind auch brauchbar. Je nach der beabsichtigten Anwendung, wobei z. B. auch die Verwendung
beim Bohren von Öl aus natürlichen Erdölquellen in Betracht kommt, können ölige Materialien von extrem
niedriger oder extrem hoher Viskosität mit Erfolg verwendet werden. Gewünschtenf alls können Schmieröle
mit einer Viskosität von etwa 30 Sekunden bei bis etwa 250 Sekunden bei 99° und höher benutzt
werden. Weiterhin sind Öle auf Paraffin-, Naphthen- oder Asphaltbasis oder Kombinationen und Mischungen
derselben anwendbar.
Eine spezielle Gruppe von geeigneten öligen Stoffen umfaßt die gewöhnlich als'synthetische Schmiermittel
bezeichnete Gruppe. Diese können die älteren Typen,
wie polymerisierte Olefine, oder die neueren und vielseitigeren Typen, wie die Polyalkylenoxyde, PoIyalkylenglykole
und verschiedenen hochmolekularen Ester, umfassen. Bevorzugte Schmiermittel aus dieser
Klasse sind Polypropylenoxyd, Mischpolymere von Trimethylenglykol und Äthylenglykol, Di-(2-äthylhexyl)
-sebacinat,Di-(2-äthylhexyl) -adipinat,Di- (heptadecyl)-sebacinat sowie ihre Analogen und Homologen,
wie die Azelainate und Glutarate. Vorzugsweise sind ίο diese öligen Substanzen im wesentlichen mit Wasser
unmischbar und stellen die Hauptschmierkomponenten in den Gemischen nach der vorliegenden Erfindung
dar. Sie können einzeln oder in Mischung untereinander oder mit anderen Schmiermitteln verwendet
werden.
Zumischung einer größeren Menge Ärogel, als nötig ist, um das Öl bloß zu verdicken, führt zur Bildung
eines Schmierfettes, das hohe Wärmebeständigkeit und, in Gegenwart des kationisch-oberfiächenaktiven
Mittels, eine wesentlich verbesserte Widerstandsfähigkeit gegenüber der Einwirkung von Wasser hat. Ein
Schmierfett von zufriedenstellenden Eigenschaften kann dadurch gebildet werden, daß etwa io °/0 eines
Ärogels zusammen mit einem kationisch-obernächenaktiven
Mittel einem niedrigviskosen Mineralöl unter kräftigem mechanischem Rühren einverleibt und
anschließend die Mischung durch eine Walzenmühle, wie man sie beim Mahlen von Farben benutzt, geschickt
wird. Die Scherwirkung der Walzen trägt dazu bei, das Öl in die Poren des Ärogels hineinzumahlen
und so eine schmierfettartige Masse zu erzeugen.
Ein anderes Mittel zur Herstellung dieser Schmiermassen besteht darin, daß das Gel in Gegenwart
einer Lösung eines oberflächenaktiven Materials gebildet und dann das das Gel umgebende flüssige Medium
durch das ölige Material verdrängt wird; hierbei bildet sich ein Produkt, das man ein Petrogel nennen
kann, wenn das Öl aus Petroleum stammt. Wahlweise kann ein Petrogel auch dadurch gebildet
werden, daß das in einer Lösung des oberflächenaktiven Mittels vorliegende anorganische Gel einem
gewünschten Öl einverleibt und das Lösungsmittel, in welchem das Gel ursprünglich suspendiert war,
abdestilliert wird. Man kann auch andere Wege einschlagen, z. B. das oberflächenaktive Material dem
Öl zufügen und anschließend das Gel zugeben, etwa in einer Kugelmühle oder Kolloidmühle.
Es ist klar, daß die Schmiermittel und Schmierfette nach der Erfindung übliche Zusatzstoffe, wie
Graphit, Fette und die Öleigenschaften verbessernde Materialien, z. B. chlorierte Kohlenwasserstoffe von
hohem Siedepunkt, Substanzen, welche den Viskositätsindex verbessern, wie polymerisierte Olefine von
hohem Molekulargewicht, Korrosionsverhinderer, Antioxydationsmittel usw., enthalten können.
Die folgenden Beispiele dienen der weiteren Erläuterung des Verfahrens, wobei die Teile Gewichtsteile
bedeuten.
10 Teile eines Mineralschmieröls von hohem Viskositätsindex
wurden bei einer Temperatur von i6o° einer Mischung von 1 Teil gemahlenem Silicaärogel
und ο, ι Teil N-Cetylpiperidin zugegeben. Die Mischung
wurde kräftig gerührt, bis sich ein Schmierfett ergab. Ein zweiter Ansatz wurde aus dem gleichen Öl und
Ärogel hergestellt, das Piperidin jedoch weggelassen. Zu den beiden Schmierfetten wurde Wasser gegeben.
Innerhalb weniger Sekunden begann das zweite Schmierfett sich zu zerlegen, während das verbesserte,
das Piperidin enthaltende Schmierfett nach viertägigem Stehen in Gegenwart von Wasser keine
Änderung im Aussehen oder in der Konsistenz zeigte.
Ein polymeres Addukt von Diallylamin und Schwefelwasserstoff, das ein Molekulargewicht von
etwa 400 hatte, wurde durch 2ostündiges Erhitzen der Reaktionspartner auf 1200 unter Druck hergestellt,
ι Teil des Addukte wurde in 10 Teilen eines mit Silicagel verdickten Erdölschmieröls, wie in
Beispiel 1 beschrieben, dispergiert. Dann fügte man Wasser zu und ließ das Schmierfett 1 Woche stehen.
Nach dieser Zeit war keine Änderung in dem gallertartigen Gefüge erkennbar.
Ein polymeres Addukt von Acrolein und Ammoniak, hergestellt durch Mischung der Reaktionspartner bei
— 6o°, wurde in Gegenwart von Raney-Nickel zu
einem Produkt mit dem Molekulargewicht 228 hydriert. Das Polymer wurde mit Ölsäure erhitzt
und ergab ein Gemisch von Aminsalzen und Amiden. Die Mischung wurde zur Stabilisierung eines Silicagel-Schmierfettes,
wie in Beispiel 1 beschrieben, verwendet. Das auf diese Weise gebildete Schmierfett widerstand
der Einwirkung von Wasser über Zeiträume von mehr als 1 Woche.
Claims (8)
1. Schmiermittel auf Ölgrundlage, insbesondere auf Mineralschmierölgrundlage, gekennzeichnet
durch einen Gehalt an anorganischen Gelen in einer mindestens für die Verdickung der Ölgrundlage
ausreichenden Menge und an kationischoberflächenaktiven Mitteln in kleinen Mengen, vorzugsweise
ι bis 25 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die anorganischen Gele.
2. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch no
gekennzeichnet, daß die anorganischen Gele in solcher Menge vorhanden sind, daß die Schmiermittel
eine gallertartige Struktur besitzen.
3. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die anorganischen
Gele Ärogele sind.
4. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das anorganische Gel
ein Silicagel ist.
5. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die kationisch-oberflächenaktiven
Mittel hydrophobe Amine sind.
6. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 5. dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die kationisch-oberflächenaktiven
Mittel die durch Hydrierung von Kondensationsprodukten aus Acrolein und Ammo-
niak erhaltenen Polyamine und/oder Salze und/ oder Amide dieser Polyamine sind.
7. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die kationisch-oberflächenaktiven
Mittel polymere Additionsprodukte von Diallylamin und Schwefelwasserstoff sind.
8. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das kationischoberflächenaktive
Mittel das N-Cetylpiperidin ist.
g·. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Schmiermitteln
nach Anspruch 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein anorganisches Gel mit einer
kleineren Menge eines kationisch-oberflächenaktiven Mittels in Gegenwart eines verhältnismäßig
flüchtigen Lösungsmittels für dieses Mittel gemischt, das Lösungsmittel entfernt und das Gel
mit dem oberflächenaktiven Mittel in einem öligen Material in solcher Menge dispergiert wird, daß
der Masse eine gallertartige Struktur verliehen wird.
