Das zweckmäßigste bisher bekannte Verfahren für die Herstellung von Schmierfetten, die mit
kolloidalen tonähnlichen Stoffen geliert sind, ist das sogenannte »Verfahren der direkten Übertragung«.
Bei diesem Verfahren wird ein oberflächenaktives Mittel zu einem wasserhaltigen kolloidalen
tonartigen Material zugesetzt, worauf man ein Schmieröl zugibt und das so erhaltene Gemisch, entwässert.
Ein Nachteil dieses Verfahren ist, daß in der Dehydratisierungsstufe große Wassermengen aus
dem Gemisch entfernt werden müssen. Es ist oft notwendig, einen beträchtlichen Anteil des Wassers
durch eine umständliche Destillation zu entfernen. Außerdem hat die lange Erhitzungsdauer oft einen
ungünstigen Einfluß auf die Eigenschaften des erhaltenen Schmierfettes.
Nach der Erfindung kann ein wesentlicher Anteil des Wassers durch einfache Mittel, wie Dekantieren
oder Absetzenlassen, entfernt werden, wenn die Komponenten (Kolloid, Schmieröl und oberflächenaktives
Mittel) in bestimmten Mengenver-
hältnissen vermischt werden, so daß ein wesentlicher
Anteil des Wassers sich von dem Gemisch abscheide* und leicht entfernt werden kann.
Der Rest des Wassers wird anschließend durch Verdampfen entfernt, wobei eine im wesentlichen
wasserfreie Mischung erhalten wird. Vorzugsweise wird dabei noch eine kleine Wassermenge in der
Mischung belassen. Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren wird also die Dehydratisierung in zwei
ίο Stufen ausgeführt.
Der Anteil des ölartigen Materials muß in einem bestimmten Bereich liegen, um einerseits eine befriedigende
Wasserabscheidung herbeizuführen und andererseits die Bildung von übermäßig weichen
Mischungen (Schmierfetten) zu vermeiden. Das oberflächenaktive Mittel muß in einer Menge verwendet
werden, welche ausreicht, um das kolloidale Material wasserfest zu machen. Das ölartige Material
muß in solcher Menge verwendet werden, daß der Wert R in der Gleichung

Gewichtsprozent des mit Wasser nicht mischbaren flüssigen ölartigen Materials,
berechnet auf den kolloidalen Stoff Oberflächenausdehnung des kolloidalen Materials in qm je g
zwischen 2 und 5 liegt. Das Schmieröl kann dem wasserhaltigen kolloidalen Material vor, gleichzeitig
mit oder nach der Zugabe des oberflächenaktiven Mittels zugesetzt werden.
ao Wenn die Komponenten in den oben angegebenen Mengenverhältnissen vermischt werden, so trennt
sich ein wesentlicher Anteil des Wassers von dem Gemisch und kann durch einfache Mittel, wie
Dekantieren oder Absetzenlassen, entfernt werden.
Anschließend kann die Entwässerung des Gemisches durch Verdampfen praktisch vervollständigt
werden und das im wesentlichen wasserfreie Gemisch dann einer scherenden Einwirkung
unterworfen werden, um eine Schmierfettstruktur herbeizuführen, z. B. durch Hindurchpressen durch
enge Düsen.
Die Oberflächenausdehnung der für die Verwendung in den erfindungsgemäßen zusammengesetzten
Schmierfetten besonders geeigneten Kolloide liegt im allgemeinen im Bereich von 100 qm je g bis
etwa 800 qm je g und insbesondere zwischen etwa 300 und 600 qm je g. Diese Oberflächenausdehnung
wird nach bekannten Methoden durch Stickstoffabsorption bestimmt. Das oberflächenaktive Mittel
wird vorzugsweise in einer Menge von 75 bis 110% (besonders zweckmäßig 85 bis 100%), berechnet
auf die Menge, welche ausreicht, um die Oberfläche des kolloidalen Materials mit einer
monomolekularen Schicht des oberflächenaktiven Mittels zu überziehen, verwendet. In Gewicht ausgedrückt
wird das oberflächenaktive Mittel im allgemeinen in einer Menge von 70 bis 120 Gewichtsprozent,
berechnet auf das kolloidale Material, verwendet.
Das Schmieröl wird vorzugsweise in solcher Menge verwendet, daß der Wert R in der oben angegebenen
Gleichung zwischen 2,5 und 4,5 liegt. In Gewicht ausgedrückt verwendet man das Schmieröl
im allgemeinen in einer Menge von 800 bis 2000 Gewichtsprozent, berechnet auf das kolloidale
Material.
Wenn das vorliegende Verfahren auch in der Weise durchgeführt werden kann, daß sich praktisch
die Gesamtmenge des Wassers aus dem ursprünglichen Gemisch abtrennt, so ist dies doch
. aus Gründen der Verarbeitung nicht erwüncht. In den verschiedenen Stufen des Verfahrens werden
die Komponenten durch Pumpen aus einem Kessel in den anderen gefördert. Beim Fehlen einer gewissen
Mindestmenge Wasser wird das Gemisch der schmierfettbildenden· Komponenten für eine
leichte Handhabung zu steif. Es wird daher vorgezogen, die Arbeitsbedingungen so einzustellen,
daß etwa eine solche Menge Wasser abgetrennt wird, daß noch etwa 4 bis 9 (vorzugsweise 5 bis 7)
Teile Wasser auf 4 Teile der schmierfettbildenden Komponenten zurückbleiben.
Nach einer besonders zweckmäßigen Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens wird
ein tonartiges Material in Wasser dispergiert, so daß ein Hydrosol gebildet wird.
Nach der Bildung des Hydrosols wird das oberflächenaktive
Mittel diesem einverleibt. Dies kann bei etwa Zimmertemperatur erfolgen; vorzugsweise
wird das Gemisch aber auf über 75 ° und besonders zweckmäßig auf eine Temperatur zwischen 80 und
ioo° erhitzt. Wenn in dieser Arbeitsstufe eine gewisse Menge Wasser abgetrennt werden kann, ist
es doch schwierig, eine nennenswerte Wasserabscheidung herbeizuführen, wenn man nicht besondere
Maßnahmen, wie eine Filtration, zu Hilfe nehmen will. Es ist daher ein Ziel der vorliegenden
Erfindung, eine wesentlich größere Abscheidung herbeizuführen, indem man mindestens einen Teil
des ölartigen Materials, welches die Schmiermittelgrundlage oder den Hauptstoff des fertigen
Schmierfetts enthält, zusetzt. Gewünschtenfalls kann jedoch Wasser, das leicht entfernt werden
kann, auch schon vor der Zugabe des ölartigen Materials abgetrennt werden.
Es wird bevorzugt, das Schmieröl nach der Einverleibung des oberflächenaktiven Mittels zuzusetzen.
Beide Stoffe können jedoch auch gleichzeitig zugesetzt werden, zweckmäßig, indem man
das oberflächenaktive Mittel in dem Schmieröl löst.
Zweckmäßig erfolgt die Zugabe des Schmieröls bei 80 bis ioo° und unter vorsichtigem Rühren,
z. B. unter Einleiten von Dampf. Die Bewegung darf dabei nicht so stark sein, daß Emulgierung der
Bestandteile auftritt; sie muß aber mindestens so stark sein, daß eine gleichmäßige Dispergierung
der drei schmierfettbildenden Komponenten erreicht wird.
Unter den vorstehend beschriebenen Bedingungen vereinigen sich die schmierfettbildenden Kornponenten
unter Bildung perlenartiger Kügelchen
oder einer Schicht, so daß eine getrennte Wasserphase gebildet wird, die durch Dekantieren oder
Zentrifugieren abgetrennt werden kann. Dabei werden die Bedingungen so eingestellt, daß nicht
weniger als etwa 4 und nicht mehr als etwa 9 Gewichtsteile Wasser für je 4 Teile der schniierfettbildenden
Bestandteile zurückbleiben. Vorzugsweise werden die zurückbleibenden noch wasserhaltigen
Schmierfettbestandteile dann einer Homogenisierung unterworfen, z. B. durch Hindurchpressen
durch enge Kanäle unter hohem Druck.
Das so erhaltene Gemisch wird dann einem Ent-' Wässerungssystem zugeführt, in welchem es durch
Verdampfen dehydratisiert wird, bis im wesentliehen das gesamte Wasser daraus entfernt ist.
Um eine befriedigende Schmierfettstruktur aufrechtzuerhalten, ist es erwünscht, daß das fertige
Schmierfett noch etwa 0,5 bis 1,5 Gewichtsprozent Wasser enthält; daher bedeutet der Ausdruck »bis
praktisch die gesamte Wassermenge entfernt worden ist« in der vorliegenden Beschreibung und in
den Ansprüchen folgendes: Bis so viel Wasser entfernt worden ist, daß nicht mehr als etwa 1,5 Ge-'
wichtsprozent Wasser, berechnet auf das fertige
»5 Schmierfett, zurückbleiben.
Die Menge des oberflächenaktiven Mittels, welche zur Erzielung der günstigsten Eigenschaften in
dem fertigen Schmierfett erforderlich ist, kann nach dem Absetzen des Wassers oder während bzw.
nach der Dehydratisierung eingestellt werden. In manchen Fällen erfordert die besonders erwünschte
Wasserbeständigkeit des Schmierfettes eine Zugabe größerer Mengen des oberflächenaktiven Mittels
als sie in der Stufe der Wasserabtrennung zugegeben werden können. Nach der Dehydratisierung
wird die praktisch wasserfreie Mischung in eine Homogenisiervorrichtung geführt, welche das Gemisch
durch Kanäle mit einem inneren Durchmesser von etwa 0,2 bis 1 mm und einer Länge von
6 bis 25 cm hindurchführt.
Die tonartigen Stoffe, welche als Gelierungsmittel in den Schmierfetten gemäß vorliegender
Erfindung verwendet werden, können natürliche oder synthetische Tone sein. Eine bevorzugte
Gruppe umfaßt die Tone mit hohem Basenaustauschvermögen. Vorzugsweise beträgt das Basenaustauschvermögen
dieser Tone, ausgedrückt in Milliäquivalent austauschbarer Base auf 100 g des
Tons zwischen 25 und 100 und besonders zweckmäßig zwischen 60 und 100. Geeignete in diese
Gruppe fallende Tone sind die Montmorillonite, einschließlich Hectorit oder der Wyoming-Bentonite.
Andere geeignete Tone sind: Saponit, Montanit und Attapulgit. Es hat sich ergeben, daß
Hectorit — vielleicht infolge seines hohen Magnesiumgehalts — Schmierfette liefert, welche außergewöhnlich
günstige Antikorrosionseigenschaften haben. Es können auch synthetische Stoffe hergestellt
werden, welche die üblichen Eigenschaften von Tonen aufweisen und auch ähnliche Röntgenbeugungsbilder
zeigen.
Die bei dem vorliegenden Verfahren verwendeten oberflächenaktiven Mittel können kationische,
anionische oder nicht ionisierende oberflächenaktive Mittel sein. Die kationisch-oberflächenaktiven
Mittel werden bevorzugt. Beispiele geeigneter oberflächenaktiver Mittel dieser Art sind die aliphatischen
Amine mit mindestens 10 Kohlenstoffatomen., z. B. Octadecylamin, und ihre Salze sowie die
quaternären Ammoniumverbindungen mit mindestens einer Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe mit mindestens
10 Kohlenstoffatomen, wie Dimethyldihepetadecylammoniumchlorid.
An Stelle der Ammoniumverbindungen können die entsprechenden Arsonium-, Stibonium-, Sulfoniumverbindungen
usw. verwendet werden. Die Tone mit basenaustauschenden Eigenschaften werden gegen Wasser
widerstandsfähig gemacht durch Umwandlung in sogenannte »Oniumtone« durch Basenaustausch
mit solchen Oniumverbindungen. Eine Gruppe kationisch-oberflächenaktiver Mittel, welche zur
Verbesserung der rostverhindernden Eigenschaften der Schmierfette besonders geeignet ist, sind die
Amidoamine, z. B. die Teilamide, welche aus höheren Fettsäuren oder Harzsäuren mit aliphatisehen
Polyaminohydroxyverbindungen, z. B. einem Kondensationsprodukt aus Epichlorhydrin und
Ammoniak, gebildet werden.
Beispiele geeigneter anionischer und nicht ionisierender oberflächenaktiver Mittel sind höhere Fettsäuren,
Seifen und Alkohole, wie Stearinsäure, 12-OxyStearinsäure, Blei-12-Oxystearat und Heptadecy
!alkohol.
Das mit Wasser nicht mischbare Schmieröl ist vorzugsweise ein mineralisches Schmieröl, z. B.
aus der Gruppe der mineralischen Schmieröle mit einer SAE-Viskosität von 10 bis 60. Es können
jedoch auch synthetische Stoffe verwendet werden, und zwar an Stelle des mineralischen Schmieröls
oder gemeinsam mit diesem. Typische Beispiele ioo sind Trikresylphosphat, Dihexylhexanphosphonat,
Sebacinsäuret-bis-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester und flüssiges
Dimethylsilicon.
Außer den drei wesentlichen Komponenten können geringere Mengen anderer Stoffe den Gemischen
einverleibt werden, wie korrosionsverhindernde Nitrite und Chromate und wasserlösliche
polare Verbindungen, z. B. Äthylenglykol und Triäthanolamin, welche eine Verbesserung der Korrosionseigenschaften
sowie eine Erhöhung der Konsistenz herbeiführen.
Das nachstehende Beispiel erläutert das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren noch näher: Ein Ton-Schmierfett
wird hergestellt durch Dispergieren von Hectorit in Wasser unter Bildung eines iVoigen
Hydrosols, wobei der Hectorit in diesem Zustand eine Oberflächenausdehnung von etwa 5ooqm/jeg
aufweist. Die Temperatur des Hydrosols wird auf etwa 8o° gesteigert; dann werden 1,1 Teile des
nachstehend beschriebenen oberflächenaktiven Mittels und 16 Teile mineralisches Schmieröl auf jeden
Gewichtsteil Ton unter Rühren zugesetzt. Die Masse wird durch Umrühren leicht bewegt, so daß
eine Abtrennung perlenähnlicher Kügelchen mit einem durchschnittlichen Durchmesser von etwa
0,5 mm eintritt. Durch Absitzenlassen und Ab-
ziehen vom Boden des Absetzbehälters kann ein Teil des Wassers leicht von den Kügelchen getrennt
werden. Das erhaltene Gemisch wird der Homogenisierung unterworfen, indem man es durch die
5 oben beschriebenen feinen Kanäle hindurchpreßt, so daß ein wässeriges Schmierfett erhalten wird,
welches dann in einer Trockeneinrichtung dehydratisiert wird. Die entwässerte Mischung wird dann
der Homogenisierung zwecks Erzielung einer be-
ίο friedigenden Schmierfettstruktur unterworfen.
Das in diesem Beispiel verwendete oberflächenaktive Mittel ist ein Teilamid, - das durch Umsetzung
von Tallölsäuren mit dem Kondensationsprodukt aus Epichlorhydrin und Ammoniak gebildet
worden ist. Dieses Kondensationsprodukt wurde hergestellt durch Erhitzen von Epichlürhydrin
und wässerigem Ammoniak auf eine Temperatur von etwa 400, so daß ein Gemisch von
Kondensationsprodukten entstand, welches zwi-
ao sehen den Monomeren und den Trimeren von i, 3"Diamino-2-oxypropan lag. Das Reaktionsgemisch wurde dann mit Natriumhydroxyd erhitzt,
um das gesamte vorhandene Ammoniumchlorid des Reaktionsgemisches in Natriumchlorid überzuführen,
das dann durch Zentrifugieren abgetrennt wurde. Darauf wurde das Reaktionsgemisch auf
eine Temperatur von etwa no0 erhitzt, um die flüssigen Bestandteile zu entfernen. Anschließend
wurde das Kondensationsprodukt mit Tallölsäuren auf eine Temperatur von 175 bis 2000 erhitzt. Es
wurde eine ausreichende Menge Säure verwendet, um ein Drittel der im Kondensationsprodukt enthaltenen
Aminogruppen in die Amidform überzuführen.
Claims (5)
- Patentansprüche:i. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Schmierfetten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß zu einem wasserhaltigen kolloidalen tonartigen Material ein oberflächenaktives, die Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Wasser verbesserndes Mittel, vorzugsweise bei einer Temperatur über 75 °, sowie ein mit Wasser nicht mischbares mineralisches und bzw. oder synthetisches Schmieröl, zweckmäßig bei 80 bis ioo°, in solcher Menge zugegeben wird, daß das Verhältnis des Gewichtsprozentsatzes des mit Wasser nicht mischbaren Schmieröles, berechnet auf den kolloidalen Stoff, zur Oberflächenausdehnung des letzteren ih qm je g zwischen 2 und 5, vorzugsweise zwischen 2, 5 und 4, 5, liegt, und daß man dann das abgeschiedene Wasser entfernt, die erhaltene Mischung durch Verdampfen dehydratisiert, bis praktisch die gesamte Wassermenge daraus entfernt ist, worauf die im wesentlichen wasserfreie Mischung einer scherenden Einwirkung zwecks Bildung einer Schmierfettstruktur unterworfen wird.
- 2. Verfahren nach Anspruch r, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß zunächst eine solche Menge des abgeschiedenen Wassers entfernt wird, daß die erhaltene Mischung 4 bis 9 Teile Wasser auf 4 Teile der Gesamtmenge von kolloidalem tonartigem Material, oberflächenaktivem Mittel und mit Wasser nicht mischbarem flüssigem ölartigem Material ausmacht.
- 3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das wässerige, kolloidale, tonartige Material ein Hydrosol, vorzugsweise ein Hydrosol eines Tones mit hohem Basenaustauschvermögen, wie Hectorit, ist.
- 4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das oberflächenaktive Mittel in einer Menge von 70 bis 120 Gewichtsprozent, berechnet auf das Gewicht des tonartigen Materials, vorliegt.
- 5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das oberflächenaktive Mittel ein kationisch-oberflächenaktives Mittel, vorzugsweise eine quaternäre Ammoniumverbindung mit mindestens einer Kohlenwasserstoffgruppe von mindestens io Kohlenstoffatomen oder ein Teilamid einer höheren Fettsäure mit einem Epichlorhydrin-Ammoniak-Kondensationsprodukt, ist.609550/426 7.56 (609 782 1.57)
