Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft synthetische Schmiermittel-Komponenten,
und insbesondere Schmiermittel-Verbindungen und Mischungen von Verbindungen, die sich von a-01efinkohlenwasserstoffen
ableiten. Die Erfindung betrifft ferner auch die Verwendung derartiger Produkte, insbesondere als
Kurbelgehäuse-Schmieröle für Verbrennungsmaschinen, formuliert
mit verschiedenen Additiven und gegebenenfalls auch mit Mineralschmieröl-Anteilen vermischt.
Oligomerisierte a-01efine sind seit vielen Jahren als wirksame
synthetische Schmieröle bekannt. Die US-Patentschrift 3 149 178 beschreibt Oligomere von C^-1p-a-Olefinen, die
unter Verwendung eines Friedel-Crafts-Katalysators, eines Peroxid-Katalysators, oder durch thermische Behandlung erhalten
werden. Die Patentschrift erteilt die Lehre, daß Dimere ungeeignet sind und daß es erforderlich ist, Dimere
aus der Zubereitung zu entfernen, um zu vermeiden, daß ein hydriertes Produkt mit einem übermäßig hohen Fließpunkt entsteht.
Beispielsweise erhöht sich nach der Hydrierung der Fließpunkt eines a-Decen-Oligomeren, das unter Verwendung
eines Peroxid-Katalysators hergestellt vrorden ist und Dimere enthält, von weniger als -65° C auf +35° G.
In der US-Patentschrift 3 682 823 wird ein Verfahren zur Vermeidung des vorstehenden katastrophalen Anstiegs des

Fließpunkts ohne das Erfordernis der Entfernung der Dinieren durch Verwendung eines Alkalimetalltetrahalogenalanats
beschrieben.
Die US-Patentschrift 3 7^2 082 offenbart ein Verfahren zum
Dimerisieren von (!!,-..„-a-Olefinen unter Verwendung eines
Bortrifluorid-Katalysators mit Phosphorsäure oder Wasser als Promotor. Die hydrierten Produkte sind als flüssige
Schmiermittel für industrielle Zwecke verwendbar. Die angegebenen Produkte haben eine Viskosität bei 210° F (100° C)
von 2,01 bis 2,07 cSt, was sie für eine Verwendung als Schmieröl in einem Maschinenkurbelgehäuse zu flüssig macht.
Beispielsweise ist die niedrigste Schmieröl-Qualität SAE 5W,
die eine Viskosität bei 100° C von mindestens 3,8 cSt (SAE-Handbuch) aufweist.
Es ist daher zu ersehen, daß dimere Produkte von Olefinkohlenwasserstoffen
keine adäquaten Quellen für Schmieröl-Materialien sind. Die Unzulänglichkeiten der früheren Bemühungen
werden nun durch die vorliegende Erfindung beseitigt, die ein hydriertes Olefin-Oligomeres umfaßt, das hauptsächlich
aus Dimeren von überwiegend a-01efinen des ^λο~^18~^e~
reiches besteht, wobei das Oligomere eine Viskosität von über 3 cSt bei 100° C, einen Fließpunkt von niedriger als
0° C und eine Flüchtigkeit derart besitzt9 daß weniger als

25 Gewichtsprozent verdampfen, wenn man das Oligomere 2 Stunden lang bei 20*1° C hält, und wobei das Oligomere weiterhin
dadurch definiert ist, daß es durch In-Kontakt-bringen eines
a-01efins oder Mischungen davon mit 12 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen und einem durchschnittlichen Kohlenstoffatom-Gehalt von
zumindest 13, mit einem Friedel-Crafts-Katalysator bei einer Temperatur im Bereich von 20° bis 200° C hergestellt wird,
bis die Reaktionsmischung ausschließlich der Monomeren überwiegend dimer ist, und man zur Entfernung der Monomeren
destilliert und hydriert.
Weitere Ausführungsformen der Erfindung umfassen Mischungen
von Schmierölen mit einem Gehalt von 5 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent eines hydrierten Oligomeren wie vorstehend definiert,
mit gewissen bekannten Additiven, wie sie nachfolgend umrissen werden. Andere Ausführungsformen der Erfindung sind
neue Kohlenwasserstoffe, die nach dem vorstehend beschriebenen Verfahren erhalten werden, und insbesondere 13}l4-Dimethylhexacosan.
Die Olefine, aus welchen die Oligomeren hergestellt werden, enthalten von 12 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen. Kleinere Mengen
außerhalb dieses Bereiches können toleriert werden, solange sie die physikalischen Eigenschaften der Oligomeren nicht
nachteilig beeinflussen. Geeignete Olefine sind Dodecen,

Tridecen, Tetradecen, Pentadecen, Hexadecen, Heptadecen und Octadecen.
Reines Dodecen ist zur Herstellung eines brauchbaren Kurbelgehäuse-Schmiermittels
gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung nicht geeignet. Dodecen führt zu Produkten, die zu flüchtig
sind. Wenn Dodecen eingesetzt wird, sollte es in einer Mischung von Olefinen vorliegen, die höhere Olefine, z.B.
Tetradecen, Hexadecen und dergleichen, enthalten. Die Menge an Dodecen in den Mischungen sollte eine Menge nicht übersteigen,
die zu einer durchschnittlichen Kohlenstoffzahl von weniger als 13 führen würde. Die "durchschnittliche Kohlenstoff
zahl" ist die Summe der Produkte, die man durchMultiplikation der Molprozente eines jeden Olefins mit der
Anzahl der Kohlenstoffatome in dem Olefin erhält. Beispielsweise
sollte in einer Mischung von 25 Molprozent Dodecen-75 Molprozent Tetradecen die durchschnittliche Kohlenstoffzahl
(0,75 x C11.) + (0,25 x C.p) = 13,5 sein. Diese Bedingung
ist auf alle Olefin-Ausgangsmaterialien, die Dodecen enthalten, anwendbar.
Bevorzugtere, als Ausgangsmaterialien eingesetzte Olefine enthalten 12 bis 16 Kohlenstoffatome und Mischungen davon,
wobei die vorstehend angegebene, Dodecen betreffende Bedingung gilt.

In einer besonders bevorzugten Ausführungsform enthalten die Ausgangs-Olefine eine Hauptmenge, d.h. über etwa 50 Molprozent
Tetradecen, wobei der Rest im wesentlichen Dodecen und/ oder Eexadecen ist.
Die Ausgangs-Olefine sind überwiegend ot-Olefine, d.h. lineare,
endständige Olefine. Unter "überwiegend" ist zu verstehen, daß sie über etwa 50 Molprozent, vorzugsweise über
75 Molprozent a-01efine enthalten. Es wäre in hohem Maße erwünscht, reine cx-Olefine einzusetzen, jedoch enthalten
die kommerziell verfügbaren a-01efine kleinere Mengen an
Innenolefinen und Vinyliden-Olefinen. Es wurde festgestellt,
daß bei der Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Dimeren ziemlich große Mengen an Innenolefinen ohne nachteilige Beeinflussung
der physikalischen Eigenschaften des Oligomeren toleriert werden können. Es hat den Anschein, daß entweder
das a-01efin in den kommerziellen Olefinen mit den Innenolefinen reagieren kann, oder daß die Innenolefine im Gleichgewicht
mit a-Olefinen stehen, und daß bei der Reaktion der
(»-Olefine mehr Innenolefine zu a-Olefinen isomerisiert werden.
Es ist nicht erforderlich, den Mechanismus der vorliegenden Erfindung zu verstehen, um die vorliegende Erfindung
erfolgreich anzuwenden.
Demzufolge sind die Ausgangs-Olefine überwiegend a-01efine

des C12_1g-BereichesJ mit dem Vorbehalt, daß die durchschnittliche
Kohlenstoffzahl zumindest 13 ist. Besonders bevorzugt sind die Ausgangs-Olefine überwiegend a-01efine
des C12_-i g-Bereiches. In einer ganz besonders bevorzugten
Ausführungsform ist das Ausgangs-Olefin überwiegend a-01efin
und hauptsächlich Tetradecen. Im besonderen Maße wird es bevorzugt, daß die Ausgangs-Olefine überwiegend ct-Olefine
sind und im wesentlichen aus zumindest 50 Molprozent
Tetradecen bestehen, wobei der Rest Dodecen und/oder Hexadecen ist. In einer besonders bevorzugten Ausführungsform
sind die Ausgangs-Olefine überwiegend a-01efine und bestehen zumindest aus 75 Molprozent Tetradecen, wobei der Rest
Dodecen und/oder Hexadecen ist.
Die Oligomeren bestehen hauptsächlich aus Dimeren und können durch In-Kontakt-bringen des Ausgangs-Olefins mit einem
Friedel-Crafts-Katalysator hergestellt werden. Repräsentative Friedel-Crafts-Katalysatoren sind BF,, BCl,, AlCl,,
AlBr,, SnCl2J, GaCl, und dergleichen.
Der bevorzugte Friedel-Crafts-Katalysator ist Bortrifluorid.
Die Menge an Bortrifluorid sollte zumindest etwa 0,002 Mol pro Mol Olefin betragen. Vorzugsweise wird das Bortrifluorid
in einer Menge zugegeben, in der es die Reaktionsmischung sättigt. Ein leichtes Verfahren zur Bewerkstelligung dieser

Sättigung besteht darin, daß man in die Flüssigkeit entweder dauernd oder periodisch eine kleine Menge Bortrifluorid
einperlen läßt.
Damit es wirksam ist, wird das Bortrifluorid in Verbindung
mit einem Promotor verwendet. Es sind viele Promotoren für Bortrifluorid bekannt. Sie umfassen Wasser, Alkohol, Äther,
Glykole, Alkoxyglykole, Fettsäuren, Fettsäureester, Ketone, Aldehyde, Η-,ΡΟ^, HF und dergleichen. Die besonders häufig
eingesetzten Bortrifluoridpromotoren sind Wasser und Alkohol,
beispielsweise CL _.. „-Alkanole, wie beispielsweise Methanol,
Äthanol, Isopropanol, Hexanol, 2-Äthylhexanol und Dodecylalkohol.
Es wird lediglich eine kleinere Menge an Promotor benötigt. Ein brauchbarer Bereich ist etwa 0,002 bis 0,040 Mol pro
Mol Olefin.
Die Menge an Bortrifluorid ist vorstehend diskutiert worden.
Bei weiterer Betrachtung hängt die Menge an Bortrifluorid zu einem gewissen Ausmaß vom Typ und der Menge des Promotors
ab. Das Bortrifluorid sollte im allgemeinen im molaren Überschuß hinsichtlich der Menge an Promotor vorliegen. Wie
oben festgestellt, wird dies besonders leicht durch ein langsames Einleiten von gasförmigem BF, in die flüssige Pha-

se, oder durch Verwenden eines geschlossenen Reaktors und einem leichten BF,-Druck erreicht.
Die Oligomer-Reaktion kann bei etwa 20° bis 200° C durchgeführt
werden. Um jedoch eine maximale Ausbeute an Dimerem zu bekommen, wird es bevorzugt, daß die Temperatur zumindest
einen Wert von 50° C aufweist. Daher wird ein bevorzugter
Temperaturbereich etwa 50° bis 200° C betragen. Ein besonders bevorzugter Temperaturbereich liegt bei etwa
50° bis 150° C. Sehr gute Ergebnisse xfurden bei einer Temperatur
im Bereich von etwa 75° bis 125° C erzielt.
Die Reaktion kann bei atmosphärischem Druck oder bei erhöhten Drucken von bis zu 1000 psig (71,3 kg/cm^) durchgeführt
werden. Bei höheren Temperaturen hilft der Druck, den. Katalysator und den Promotor in dem Reaktionsmedium zu halten.
Die Reaktion wird solange durchgeführt, bis die Reaktionsmischung, ausschließlich der Monomeren, hauptsächlich dimer
ist. Der Zeitraum sollte lang genug sein, so daß sich eine wesentliche Menge an Dimerem gebildet hat, z.B. zumindest
30 Gewichtsprozent. Ein brauchbarer Zeitraum ist etwa 1 bis 8 Stunden. Bei der bevorzugteren Temperatur wurden unter
Verwendung eines BF-,-Wasser-Katalysatorsystems ausgezeichnete
Ergebnisse in etwa 2 bis 4 Stunden erzielt.

Die Oligomerenraischung enthält nach der Reaktion nichtumgesetztes
Monomeres, Dimeres und irgendwelche höhere Oligomere (z.B. Trimere). Die Menge an zurückbleibendem Monomeren
hängt zu einem gewissen Ausmaß davon ab, wie lang die Reaktion durchgeführt worden ist. Es wird bevorzugt, die
Reaktion zu beenden, wenn etwa 25 bis 50 Gewichtsprozent der Mischung noch im monomeren Zustand ist, da dies die
Bildung von Trimeren und höheren Oligomeren auf ein Minimum herabsetzt. Dieses Monomere kann leicht in die nächste Reaktion
als Teil der Olefin-Beschickung im Kreis geführt werden. Die Reaktion kann beendet werden, indem man zur Entfernung
des Katalysators wäscht. Gute Ergebnisse werden unter Verwendung einer Wäsche mit wässerigem Ammoniak erzielt.
Die leicht flüchtigen Siedeenden, die nahezu völlig aus Monomeren bestehen, werden aus der Mischung durch Destillation
entfernt. Es ist nicht erforderlich, alle Monomeren zu entfernen, jedoch sollte nur ein sehr geringer Anteil zurückbleiben,
da dieser die Flüchtigkeit des Endproduktes nachteilig beeinflussen kann. Geeignete Kurbelgehäuse-Schmieröle
müssen eine niedrige Flüchtigkeit haben, da sie sonst unter den Betriebsbedingungen verdampfen, was zu einem höheren
Ölverbrauch führt.

Nach dem Abstreifen der Monomeren enthält die Reaktionsmischung hauptsächlich Dimere des Ausgangs-Olefins oder der
Ausgangs-Olefinmischung. Die einzelnen Komponenten enthalten
zumindest etwa 26 Kohlenstoffatome pro Molekül. Außer
den Dimeren enthält die Reaktionsmischung Trimere und höhere Oligomere, jedoch ist sie hauptsächlich dimer, d.h. sie
ist über 50 Gewichtsprozent dimer, besonders bevorzugt über
60 Gewichtsprozent dimer. Typischerweise ist die Mischung etwa 75 Gewichtsprozent dimer.
Das erhaltene Produkt wird als nächstes nach herkömmlichen Verfahren hydriert. Nickel-Katalysatoren auf Träger können
angewandt werden. Beispielsweise liefert ein Nickel-Katalysator auf einem Kieselgur-Träger gute Ergebnisse. Der Katalysator
kann zu der Flüssigkeit zugesetzt und unter Wasserstoff druck gerührt, oder die Flüssigkeit kann durch ein
Festbett des Trägerkatalysators unter Wasserstoffdruck hindurchgetropft werden. Ein Wasserstoffdruck von etwa 100 bis
1000 psig (8,1 bis 71,3 kg/cm2) bei 150° bis 300° C ist
brauchbar.
Das erhaltene, hydrierte Oligomere ist in hohem Maße als Schmieröl für Kurbelgehäuse brauchbar, und zwar entweder
als einziges Schmiermittel, oder als eine Schmiermittelmischung in Mineral- und/oder synthetischen ölen (z.B.

synthetische Esteröle, Alkylbenzole und dergleichen). Derartige Mischungen ermöglichen es, daß das Basisöl die Viskositätsanforderungen
für SAE 5I"7 oder SAE 7,5W erfüllt ,ohne
daß der Ölverbrauch die Grenzen des ASTM IIId-Test überschreitet. Beispielsweise wird, wenn Mineralöle so raffiniert
werden, daß sie eine SAE 5Vi-Viskositätsspezifizierung
erfüllen, das öl fast immer die Qualifikation in dem IIId-Test infolge eines durch die Flüchtigkeit verursachten,
übermäßigen Ölverbrauchs nicht erfüllen.
Die hydrierten dimeren Oligomeren sind insbesondere in Mischungen mit Mineralölen, die als Mehrbereichsöle formuliert
werden, brauchbar. Diese sind öle, welche die Tieftemperatur- (d.h. -18° C)-SAE-Viskositätsspezifikation für
5W-; 10W- oder 2OW-OIe, und ebenso auch die Hochtemperatur-^.h.
100° C)-Viskositätsspezifikationen für SAE 20-, 30-, 40- oder 50-Bereichsöle erfüllen. Diese SAE-Spezifikationen

Die hydrierten dimeren Oligomeren sind insbesondere für Mineralöl-Mischungen brauchbar, welche die 5W- oder 10W-SAE-Viskositätsspezifikationen
erfüllen. Die hydrierten Dimeren machen bis zu etwa 3 bis 50, vorzugsweise 5 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent
des Öls ausschließlich anderer Additive aus. Das Mineralöl sollte eines mit einer Schmierviskosität sein.
Brauchbare, in den Mischungen eingesetzte Mineralöle haben einen Viskositätsbereich von etwa 75 bis 500 SUS bei 100° F
(37j8° C). Geradkettige Mineralschmieröle, welche diese Viskositätsspezifikationen
erfüllen, sind oftmals zu flüchtig und erfüllen infolge eines übermäßigen Ölverbrauchs den
Sequenz-IIId-Maschinentest nicht. Die vorliegenden hydrier-

ten, dimeren Oligomeren haben eine außergewöhnlich niedrige
Flüchtigkeit im Vergleich zu Mineralölen und/oder anderen Oligomeren der gleichen Viskosität.
Die Struktur der Hauptkomponente des hydrierten dimeren Öls ist folgende

worin die Reste R und R^ lineare Alkylgruppen bedeuten,
die von 10 bis 16 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten, mit dem Vorbehalt,
daß, falls der Rest R1 eine Decylgruppe ist, dann der Rest R2 12 bis 16 Kohlenstoffatome enthält. Beispiele
dieser Komponenten sind 11,12-Dimethyltetracosan, 11,12-Dimethylhexacosan,
11,12-Dimethyloctacosan, 13,14-Dimethyloctacosan,
13,14-Dimethyltriacontan, 15,16-Dimethyldotriacontan,
17,18-Dimethyltetratriacontan.
Die bevorzugteren Komponenten sind solche, in welchen der Rest R aus der Gruppe bestehend aus n-Decyl, n-Dodecyl und
n-Tetradecyl, und der Rest R aus der Gruppe bestehend aus
n-Dodecyl und n-Tetradecyl ausgewählt ist. Diese sind 11,12-Dimethyltetracosan, 11,12-Dimethylhexacosan, 13,14-Dimethylhexacosan,
13,14-Dimethyloctacosan, und 15,16-Dimethyltrfecontan.

Besonders bevorzugte Komponenten sind solche, in welchen

der Rest R n-Dodecyl bedeutet und der Rest R aus n-Dodecyl
und n-Tetradecyl ausgewählt ist. Diese sind 13,14-Dimethylhexacosan
und 13jl^-Dimethyloctacosan.
Die nachstehenden Beispiele erläutern die Herstellung der vorliegenden hydrierten, dimeren Zubereitungen und die
physikalischen Eigenschaften von typischen Produkten.
In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 400 g einer a-Olefinmischung
(10,78 Gewichtsprozent C12, 88,34 Gewichtsprozent CLj. und
0,88 Gewichtsprozent C^g; 80,5 % a-01efin, 4,5 % Innenolefin
und 15,1 % Vinylidenolef in) placiert. Die Mischung XTurde auf
85 C erhitzt und mit dem langsamen Einperlen von BP, in die
gerührte Flüssigkeit begonnen. Nachdem die Flüssigkeit etwa gesättigt war, wurde 0,25 ml BP-, .2H20-Komplex zugegeben und
das Rühren bei 980 C fortgesetzt, wobei langsam gasförmiges
BF, in die Flüssigkeit eingeperlt wurde. Nach 60 Minuten wurde eine zusätzliche Menge von 0,25 ml BF,.2H2O-KOmPIeX
zugegeben. Nach 192 Minuten wurde 0,5 ml BF,.2H2O zugesetzt.
Nach 240 Minuten wurde die BF,-Zugabe unterbrochen und die Reaktion mit 200 ml Wasser abgeschreckt. Es wurde mit wässerigem
Ammoniak und anschließend mit Wasser gewaschen, über wasserfreiem Natriumsulfat getrocknet und filtriert. Eine

Analyse mittels Dampfphasenchromatographie zeigte eine Zusammensetzung von 4,37 % C12, 41,8 % C±l[, 0,17 % C^,
14,75 % C26, 32,63 % C38 und 6,31 % höhere Oligomere. Es
wurde zur Entfernung von leicht flüchtigen Siedeenden (Monomere) bis zu 107,5° C Überkopf-Temperatur bei einem Druck
von 1,9 abs. destilliert. Das Destillat wog 124,1 g und die Viskosität des zurückgebliebenen Produktes betrug 3,55 cSt
bei 100° C.
Das zurückgebliebene Produkt wurde bei 250° C, 500 psig
(36,2 kg/cm ) Wasserstoff unter Verwendung eines Nickel/ Kieselgur-Katalysators hydriert. Das hydrierte Oligomere
hatte die folgenden physikalischen Eigenschaften:

Viskosität (40° C) 15,6l cSt

Fließpunkt -29° C.
Eine gewichtsmäßig kleine Probe wurde bei 204° C 2 Stunden lang in einem Ofen zur Bestimmung seines prozentualen Gewichtsverlustes
infolge der Flüchtigkeit placiert. Ein Gewichtsverlust von 25 % oder weniger zeigt in diesem Test,
daß das Oligomere den Sequenz-IIId-Test bestehen würde. Dieses Oligomere lieferte einen Gewichtsverlust von 1736 %.

Beispiel 2
In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 115,7 g eines Kreislauf-Destillats
aus Beispiel 1 und 284,2 g der in Beispiel eingesetzten
a-Tetradecen-Mischung eingebracht. Unter Erwärmen
und Rühren wurde bei 91° C mit dem Einperlen von BF,.. begonnen.
Bei 97° C wurden 0,6 ml BF,.2HpO zugesetzt, um die
Reaktion zu starten. Mach 215 Minuten langem Rühren bei bis 99° C XMTirde das Einperlen von BF, unterbrochen und die
Reaktion mit Wasser abgeschreckt, mit wässerigem Ammoniak und erneut mit Wasser gewaschen, getrocknet und filtriert.
Die Mischung hatte eine Analyse von 3,02 % C12, 41,3 % C1^,
0,3 % C1^, 51,8 % C2g + C28 und 3,3 Gewichtsprozent höhere
Oligomere. Diese Mischung wurde bei 133° C bei 1,5 mm abs.
zur Entfernung von Monomeren abgetoppt. Als Destillat erhielt man 111,7 g3 35,4 % der Destillationscharge. Die restliche
Mischung hatte eine Analyse von 34,7 % Cg, 52,36 %
C2g und 12,75 % höhere Oligomere (Viskosität 3,65 cSt bei
100° C).
Die zurückbleibende Dimeren-Mischung wurde wie in Beispiel 1
hydriert und lieferte ein gesättigtes Produkt mit den folgenden physikalischen Eigenschaften:

Beispiel 3
In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 400 g einer Tetradecen/Hexadecen-a-01efinmischung
(68 Gewichtsprozent C^, 32 Gewichtsprozent
C.gj 75,5 % a-01efin, 5,9 % Innenolefin, 18,6 %
Vinylidenolefin) placiert. Unter Rühren und Erwärmen wurde
das Einperlen von BF, bei 79° C begonnen. Bei 95° C wurden
0,5 ml BF-, .2H2O zugegeben. Die Reaktion wurde unter langsamem
Einperlen von BF, 275 Minuten lang bei 98° C fortgesetzt, Die Reaktion wurde dann mit Wasser abgeschreckt, mit wässerigem
Ammoniak und dann erneut mit Wasser gewaschen, getrocknet und filtriert. Die Analyse ergab 0,53 % C12, 30,84 % Cli},
15,44 % G16, 22,78 % C28, 23,5 % C30 und 6,92 % höheres Oligomer.
Die Mischung wurde in einer Destillationskolonne bei einer Überkopf-Temperatur von 118° C bei 2,1 mm abs. abgetoppt.
Die Viskosität des zurückbleibenden Oligomeren betrug 3,95 cSt bei 110° C.
Das Produkt wurde wie in Beispiel 1 hydriert und lieferte ein gesättigtes, hauptsächlich dimeres Oligomeres mit den
folgenden physikalischen Eigenschaften:

In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 400 g der in Beispiel 1 eingesetzten
Dodecen-Tetradecen-Mischung eingebracht. Die Mischung wurde erwärmt und bei 58° C mit dem Einperlen von
BF, begonnen. Bei 74° C wurde 0,6 ml BF,.2HpO zugegeben und die Reaktionsmischung 125 Minuten bei 74° bis 75° C gehalten.
Sie wurde dann abgeschreckt, gewaschen, getrocknet und wie oben filtriert. Die Analyse ergab 5,73 % C12, 4,38 %
C14, 0,44 % C16, 8,93 % C26, 31,44 % C28 und 9,3 % höhere
Oligomere. Diese Mischung wurde bei 2 mm abs. bis zu 110° C abgetoppt und lieferte 149,2 g Destillat und 214,9 g zurückbleibendes
Produkt mit einer Analyse von 18,65 % Cp6, 61,88
C2g und 18,46 % höheren Oligomeren. Seine Viskosität war
3,64 cSt bei 100° C.
Das zurückbleibende Produkt wurde wie oben unter Bildung eines gesättigten, hauptsächlich dimeren Oligomeren mit
den nachfolgenden physikalischen Eigenschaften hydriert.

In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 400 g des Tetradecen-Hexadecen-a-01efins
aus Beispiel 3 eingebracht. Es wurde gerührt und erwärmt und bei 73° C mit dem Einperlen von BF, begonnen.
Bei 85° C wurden 0,6 ml BF,.2HpO-Komplex zugegeben und
die Reaktion 145 Minuten lang bei 85° C fortgesetzt. Die
Mischung wurde abgeschreckt, mit wässerigem Ammoniak und dann mit Wasser gewaschen, getrocknet und wie oben filtriert.
Die Analyse ergab 0,38 % C12, 33,9 % C14, 17,03 % C16,
0,13 % C18, 19,63 % C28, 23,4 % C30 und 5,04 % höhere 01igomere.
Es wurde bis 125° C bei 1,8 mm abs. abgetoppt und man erhielt ein zurückbleibendes Dimeres mit einer Analyse
von 43,19 % C28, 49,14 % C,o und 6,83 % höheren Oligomeren.
Die Viskosität war 3,96 cSt bei 100° C. Es wurde wie oben hydriert und man erhielt ein gesättigtes dimeres Oligomeres
mit der nachfolgenden Analyse:

Beispiel 6
In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 6 kg der Tetradecen-Mischung von Beispiel 1 eingebracht. Diese wurde gerührt und erwärmt
und bei 75° C mit dem Einperlen von BF-, begonnen. Bei 78° C
wurden 15 g BF,^ELO-Komplex zugegeben, um die Reaktion zu
starten. Es wurde 3 Stunden lang bei 80° bis 83° C unter Einleiten von BF, gerührt. Dann wurde mit Wasser abgeschreckt,
mit wässerigem Ammoniak, dann mit Wasser gewaschen, getrocknet und filtriert. Die Analyse der Mischung ergab 4,3^ %
C12, 35,04 % C14, 15,21 % C26, 38,16 % C28 und 7,25 % höhere
Oligomere. Es wurde bis I980 C bei 0,35 mm abs. abgetoppt.
Die Viskosität betrug 3,68 cSt bei 100° C. Die Mischung wurde wie oben hydriert und lieferte ein dimeres Produkt
mit den nachfolgenden physikalischen Eigenschaften:

In einem Reaktionsgefäß wurden 400 ml der in Beispiel 3 eingesetzten
Tetradecen-Hexadecen-Mischung eingebracht. Es wurde

wie in den vorausgehenden Beispielen unter Verwendung von 0,6 ml BP^.2H2O und kontinuierlichem Einperlen von BP, bei
84.5 bis 85° C während eines Zeitraums von 270 Minuten oligomerisiert.
Die Analyse zeigte 14,95 % Monomeres, 36 % C?qj
20.6 % C,o, 6,18 % C,2 und 18,8 % höhere Oligomere an. Es
wurde abgeschreckt, gewaschen, getrocknet und wie oben filtriert. Es wurde dann bis 132,5° C bei I85 mm abs. zur Entfernung
von Monomeren! abgetoppt. Die Viskosität war 4,48 cSt bei 100° C.
Dies läßt erkennen, daß längere Reaktionszeiten zu einer Abnahme der Menge an nichtumgesetztem Monomeren führen,
jedoch die Menge an Trimerem und höheren Oligomeren erhöhen und zu einem Produkt von höherer Viskosität führen. Derartige
Produkte sind für viele Anwendungen brauchbar, beispielsweise als Transformatorenöle oder zur Formulierung von
Getriebeschmiermitteln. Das Produkt wurde nicht hydriert.
In diesem Beispiel wurde eine Mischung von 200 ml des Dodecen-Tetradecens
von Beispiel 1 und 200 ml des Tetradecen-Hexadecens von Beispiel 3 bei 850 C unter Verwendung von
0,6 ml BP^.2HpO und einem 120 Minuten langen Einperlen von

Trocknen wurde diese Mischung bis 131,5° C bei 1,9 mm abs. zur Entfernung von Monomeren abgetoppt. Die Viskosität bei
100° C betrug 3,79 cSt. Das Produkt wurde dann zu einem gesättigten, hauptsächlich dimerem Oligomeren mit den nachfolgenden
physikalischen Eigenschaften hydriert:

Nicht alle a-01efin-Dimere haben die für die in hohem Maße wünschenswerten physikalischen Eigenschaften der vorliegenden
Oligomeren erforderliche Struktur. Beispielsweise führen ähnliche Dimere, die unter Verwendung eines Aluminiumalkyl-Katalysators
hergestellt werden, zu einer Dimer-Zubereitung, die einen unannehmbaren Fließpunkt besitzt. Die
folgende Tabelle vergleicht die physikalischen Eigenschaften der zwei verschiedenen ot-Tetradecen-Dimeren, von denen
jede unter Verwendung eines verschiedenen Katalysators hergestellt worden ist.

Wie die Ergebnisse zeigen, hat das Dimere, das unter Verwendung eines Alkylaluminium-Katalysators hergestellt worden
ist, eine höhere Viskosität im Vergleich zu dem Dimeren, das unter Verwendung eines Friedel-Crafts-Katalysators erhalten
wurde. Außerdem hat das unter Verwendung von Bortrifluorid (mit Wasser als Promotor) hergestellte Dimere einen
Fließpunkt, der etwa 60° C niedriger ist als derjenige des Dimeren, das unter Verwendung eines Alkylaluminium-Katalysators
erhalten wurde. Diese Unterschiede sind sowohl bei dem ungesättigten, als auch bei dem hydrierten Dimeren vorhanden.
Es wird angenommen, daß der stark erniedrigte Fließpunkt der vorliegenden hydrierten Dimeren der Gegenwart der
zwei herausragenden Methylgruppen an benachbarten Kohlenstoffatomen zuzuschreiben ist, wie dies in der obigen Strukturformel

sehen Resonanz (NMR) stimmen mit dieser Struktur überein.
Das aus einem mit Alkylaluminium katalysierten Verfahren herrührende Dimere hat eine verschiedene Struktur mit nur
einer einzigen herausragenden Methylgruppe.
Die hydrierten dimeren Oligomeren der vorliegenden Erfindung
sind in idealer Weise für eine Verwendung in Schmierölen in Kurbelgehäusen von Verbrennungsmaschinen geeignet,
und zwar sowohl in Dieselmaschinen, als auch in Maschinen mit Fremdzündung. Die Viskosität der erfindungsgemäßen
Oligomeren bei 100° C beträgt 3,0 cSt oder mehr. Besonders
bevorzugt beträgt ihre Viskosität zumindest 3a3 cSt, und
ganz besonders bevorzugt 3,5 cSt oder darüber. Die obere Viskositätsgrenze hängt von dem eingesetzten a-01efin und
der Menge an höheren Oligomeren in dem Produkt ab. Die viskoseren Oligomeren werden zur Formulierung von Getriebeschmiermitteln
und zur Herstellung von Fett eingesetzt.
Die Oligomeren können das einzige Schmiermittel sein oder sie können in Mischungen mit anderen Schmierölen, wie beispielsweise
Mineralölen, synthetischen Diesterölen, komplexen Esterölen, sterisch gehinderten Esterölen, und dergleichen,
eingesetzt werden.
Wenn die synthetischen, dimeren Oligomeren in Mischungen

verwendet werden, machen sie gewöhnlich 3 bis 50 Gewichtsprozent, besonders bevorzugt 5 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent des
Gesamtöls ohne Additive aus. Bei der Verwendung in derartigen Mischungen ermöglicht das synthetische dimere Oligomere
eine Herabsetzung der Viskosität ohne eine Erhöhung der Flüchtigkeit. Derartige Mischungen machen es möglich,
ein SAE 5W-Schmieröl aus den verfügbaren Mineralöl-Materialien zu formulieren, ohne die Flüchtigkeitsgrenzen des
Sequenz-IIId-Tests zu überschreiten. Bei der Herstellung
derartiger Mischungen sollte das hydrierte dimere Oligomere eine niedrige Viskosität von etwa 3,0 bis 4,5 cSt, besonders
bevorzugt etwa 3,3 bis 4,3 cSt bei 100° C, besitzen. Gewöhnlich enthalten derartige Mischungen etwa 10 bis 30 Gewichtsprozent
der vorliegenden hydrierten dimeren Oligomeren.
Die Schmieröle der vorliegenden Erfindung werden gemischt und enthalten verschiedene Additive, welche den Kurbelgehäuse-Schmiermitteln
vorteilhafte Eigenschaften verleihen. Diese Additive sind herkömmliche Schmieröl-Additive, wie
beispielsweise Zxnkdialkyldithiophosphat (beschrieben in den US-Patentschriften 2 680 123, 2 689 220, 2 838 555 und
3 293 181), Erdalkalimetallsalze von Erdölsulfonsäuren, oder Alkylbenzolsulfonsäure (z.B. Calcium-, Barium- oder Mg-SuI-fonate),
oder überbasische Erdalkalimetallsulfonate (beschrieben in den US-Patentschriften 2 36I 476, 2 501 731, 2 807 590,

3 803 039), phosphosulfurisierte Polyolefine, wie beispielsweise das Reaktionsprodukt von PpS5 mit Polybutenen, Alkalimetallsalze
von phosphosulfurxsierten Polyolefinen, Antioxidantien, wie beispielsweise 4,4'-Methylenbis(2,6-di-tert.-butylphenol),
2,6-Di-tert.-buty1-a-dimethylamino-p-kresol,
VI-Verbesserer, wie beispielsweise Äthylen-Propylen-Copolymerisate

Die nachfolgenden Arbeitsweisen sind erläuternd für die Herstellung von für die kommerzielle Verwendung geeigneten
ülprodukten.
Verfahren A
In einem Mischgefäß werden 10 000 Teile der hydrierten Dimeren-Mischung
aus Beispiel 1 placiert. Hierzu wird eine ausreichende Menge von Zinkisobutylamyldithiophosphat zur
Schaffung eines Gehaltes von 0,07 Gewichtsprozent Zink, überbasisches
Calciumalkylbenzolsulfonat (Basenzahl 300) in einer Menge zur Schaffung von 1,5 Gewichtsprozent Ca, 500 Teile
eines kommerziellen Polyalkylmethacrylat-Viskositätsindexverbesserersj
500 Teile Di(2-äthylhexyl)-adipat zur Verbesserung
der Dichtungsquellung und 20 Teile 4,4'-Methylenbis(2,6-di-tert.-butylphenol)
zugegeben. Die Mischung wird heiß gemischt und zur Entfernung von Feststoffen filtrierta
und man erhält ein synthetisches Schmieröl, das für eine Verwendung in einem Maschinenkurbelgehäuse geeignet ist.
Verfahren B
In einem Mischgefäß placiert man 2000 Teile des hydrierten Dimeren von Beispiel 6 und 8000 Teile eines neutralen Mineralöls
mit 150 SUS. Hierzu fügt man Zinkisobutyl-2-äthylhexyldithiophosphat
zur Schaffung eines Gehaltes von 0,1 Gewichtsprozent Zn, überbasisches Calciumerdölsulfonat (Ea-

senzahl 250) in einer Menge, zur Schaffung eines Gehaltes
von 0,75 Gewichtsprozent Ca, überbasisches Magnesiuiralkylbenzolsulfonat
(Basenzahl 400) in einer Menge, zur Schaffung eines Gehaltes von 0,75 Gewichtsprozent Kg und 500
Teile eines kommerziellen Polyalkylmethacrylat-Viskositätsindexverbesserers hinzu. Die Mischung wird heiß gemischt
und zur Entfernung von Feststoffen filtriert, und man erhält eine partiell synthetische Schmierölmischung, die für eine
Verwendung in einem Maschinenkurbelgehäuse geeignet ist.

Claims (9)
1. Hydriertes Olefinoligomere, bestehend hauptsächlich
aus Dimeren von überwiegend a-01efinen des C1_- bis C^ o~
Bereiches mit einer Viskosität von größer als etwa 3,0 cSt bei 1OO° C, einem Fließpunkt von niedriger als 0° C und
einer niedrigen Flüchtigkeit derart, daß weniger als 25 Gewichtsprozent verdampft werden, wenn man das Oligomere
2 Stunden lang bei 204° C hält, wobei das Oligomere für eine Verwendung in Kurbelgehäuse-Schmiermitteln für Verbrennungsmaschinen
geeignet ist,, dadurch gekennzei

der Monomeren überwiegend dimer ist, hergestellt wird und man zur Entfernung der Monomeren destilliert und hydriert.
2. Oligomeres nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß das a-01efin eine Mischung ist, die im wesentlichen aus zumindest 50 Molprozent, vorzugsweise
75 Molprozent Tetradecen und einem Rest von Dodecen, Hexadecen, oder Mischungen davon, besteht.
3. Oligomeres nach einem der Ansprüche 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Friedel-Crafts-Katalysator
Bortrifluorid ist und eine kleinere Menge an Wasser als Promotor vorgesehen ist.
4. Schmieröl-Mischung, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß sie eine Hauptmenge eines Mineralöls mit Schmierviskosität und eine kleinere Menge von 5 bis
Gewichtsprozent eines Oligomeren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3 enthält.
5. Formulierte Kurbelgehäuse-Schmieröl-Zubereitung, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie ein hydrier-

tes Olefinoligomeres gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3 und
ein aschefreies Dispergiermittel, ausgewählt aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Alkenylsuccinimiden von Polyalkylenpolyaminen,
Mannich-Kondensationsprodukten von Alkylphenolen, Aldehyden und reaktiven Aminen und Alkalibernsteinsäureester von Alkanpolyolen,
enthält.
6. Kurbelgehäuse-Schmieröl-Zubereitung nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie 0,01
bis 0,5 Gewichtsprozent Zink in Form eines Zinkdialkyldithiophosphats
enthält.
7. Kohlenwasserstoff mit einer Viskosität von über 33O cSt
bei 100° C und einem Fließpunkt von niedriger als 0° C, der
als synthetisches Schmiermittel brauchbar ist, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß er die nachfolgende allgemeine Strukturformel
