Verfahren zur Herstellung von Phloroglucin

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren sur Herstellung von Phloroglucin aus Hexachlorbenzol.
Es sind bereits mehrere Synthesen des Phloroglucins bekannt.
Technisch bedeutsam ist insbesondere die Reduktion von 1.3.5-Trinitrobenzol zum 1.3,5-Triaminobenzol und dessen
anschließende Hydrolyse. Wach älterer. Verfahren kann die Reduktion
mittels Zinn in salzsaurer Lösung (Waidel und Pollak, Monatsh.
23., 15, (1900); Hepp, Ann. 215, 348; Organic Synthesis Coll.
Vol. I, 444 (1932); ÜS-PS 2 461 498) oder mit Wasserstoff und Raney-Nickel in einem organischen Lösungsmittel, insbesondere
Äthylacetat (DE-PS 813 709; Gill et al., J. Chern. Soc., 1753
(1949); GB-PS 1 106 038), durchgeführt werden. Ein für die großtechnische Reduktion des Trinitrobenzols geeignetes
Reduktionsmittel ist Eisen/Salzsäure (US-PS 2 614 126; Kastens,
Ind. and Engin Chem. 42, 402 (1950); GB-PS 1 022 733). Auch
Platin, Palladium und Rhodium—Katalysatoren wurden für die
Reduktion des Trinitrobenzols vorgeschlagen (FR-PS 1 289 647; Desseigne, Mem. Poudres 4jj[, 325 (1962) . Man kann bei dieser
Synthese statt vom 1.3.5-Trinitrobenzol auch von der 2.4.6-Trinitrobenzoesäure,
welche großtechnisch durch Oxydation von Trinitrotoluol mit Natriumdichromat in Schwefelsäure erhältlich
iat (Kastens, I.e.), ausgehen, da die bei der Reduktion

anfallende 2.4,6-Tri&:vJ.ncbcn£oo:säure entweder sofort zum
Triaminobenzol decarboxyliert oder aber bei der anschließenden
Hydrolyse in Phloroglucin überführt wird (GB-PS 1 022 733; G3-PS 1 106 088; GB-PS 1 274 551). Weiterhin ist bekannt, anstelle
dec Trinitrcbenzols vom 5-Nitro-1.3~diair.inobenzol auszugehen
(G3-PS 1 012 782). Die HydroIyεa des Triamins zum
Phloroglucin erfolgt üblicherweise in. aaineraleaurer Lösung
(Fiesch, lionatsh. 3j3,755 (1897)? DE-PS 102 358), nach einem
neueren Verfahren in Gegenwart von Kupfer und/oder dessen Saliien als Katalysator (DE-PS 1 195 327).
Nach einem ebenfalls technisch interessanten Verfahren gelangt man zu Phloroglucin, indexa man 1.3.5-Triisopropy!benzol oxydiert,
aus den hierbei erhaltenen Gemisch des Mono-, Di- und Trihydroperoiiids da3 Trihydrcperoxid abtrennt und dieses anschließend
der Ketonsp^ltung unterwirft (GB-PS 751 598; DL-PS 12239; Seidel et al., Journ. prakt. Chemie 275, 278 (1956) )
Es ist auch möglich, Triisopropy!benzol durch Oxydation mit
Sauerstoff in Essigsäureanhydrid direkt zu Phloroglucintriacetat
umzusetzen und letzteres mit alkoholischem Natriumhydroxid in Phloroglucin zu verseilen (US-PS 2 7S9 693). Man kann auch von
m-Isoprcpylresocin ausgehen, dieses mit Essigsäureanhydrid
verestern, das hierbei erhaltene m-Isopropylresorcindiacetat
sum Hydroperoxid oxydieren und dieses schließlich mit Säure ins Phloroglucin überführen (US-PS 3 028 410).
Weiterhin gelangt man zu Phloroglucin, wenn man Resorcin (Barth und Schreder, Ber. 1J2, 503 (1G79) , in 2-, 4-,
5-, 3.5- oder 2.4-Position durch Chlor oder Brom substituiertes Resorcin (DE-OS 2 231 005) oder 1.3.5-Benzoltrisulfcnsäure
(US-PS 2 773 908) mit überschüssigem Alkalihydroxid echmilzt.
Außer den genannten Benzolderivaten wurden auch Hexaoxybenzol,
Pikrylchl#rid, Tetrachlcr- und Tetrabrombenzol sowie

Tribrombenzol als Ausgangsstoffe für die Phloroglucinsynthese
genannt: Hexaoxybenzol wird in wäßrigem Medium mit Platinoxid hydriert (Kuhn et al., Ann. 565, 1 (1949), Pkrylchlorid wird
mit Zinn und Salzsäure oder elektrolytisch reduziert und das
hierbei erhaltene 1.3.5-Triaminobenzol bzw. 2.4.6-Triamino-lchlorbenzol
anschließend hydrolysiert (Heertjes, Receuil 78, 452 (1959) . Die genannten Tetrahalcbenzole v/erden in Gegenwart
eines Kupferkatalysatcrs der Ammonoiyse unterworfen und das
intermediäre Triamin ohne vorherige Abtrennung im Reaktionsgemisch
hydrolysiert (US-PS 3 230 266). Tribrombenzol läßt sich mit Natriuiuraethanolat und katalytischen Mengen Kupferjodid
in Methanol/Diraethylformanid als Lösungsmittel in 1.3.5-Triir.ethoxybanzol
überführen, welches schließlich ebenfalls der Hydrolyse unterworfen wird (McKillop et al., Synthetic
Communications 4 (1), 35 (1974). Zu verweisen ist noch auf das Verfahren dar DE-OS 23 62 694, wonach 2.6-, 2.4-, 2.5- oder
3.5-Dihalogenphenole gelöst in Pseudocumol in Anwesenheit eines
starken Alkalis erhitzt werden.
Ferner ist eine vom Malonsäurediäthylester ausgehende Phloroglucin-Synthese
bekannt: Bei der Behandlung mit metallischem Natrium kondensiert der Malonsäurediäthylester mit sich selbst
zum Trinatriuiüsalz des Phloroglucin-dicarbonsäure-diäthylesters,
dieses Zwischenprodukt wird anschließend alkalisch verseift und decarboxyliert (v. Baeyer, Ber. .18, 3454 (1885); Willstätter,
Ber. 32!, 1272 (1899); Leuchs, Ber. ^41, 3172 (1908); Komninos,
Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. 22, 449 (1918). Diese Synthese wurde in
der Vieise verbessert, daß die Bildung des Natriummalonsäurediäthylesters
und des Trinatriumsalzes des Phlorcglucindicarbonsäure-diäthylesters
durch Kochen in einem indifferenten hochsiedenden Lösungsmittel, vorzugsweise Dekalin, in einem
einzigen Arbeitsgang erfolgt (DL-PS 24 998).
Von den obengenannten Verfahren hat bisher offenbar lediglich das Verfahren, welches von 2.4.6-Trinitrobenzoesäure ausgeht,

Eingang in die Technik gefunden. Dieses Verfahren besitzt
jedoch mehrere schwerwiegende Mängel. Die 2.4.6-Trinitrobenzoesäure
wird durch Oxydation des explosiven Trinitrotoluols hergestellt, das Verfahren ist somit gefährlich. Außerdem
ist die Gesaratausbeute, geraessen an 2.4.6-Trinitrobenzol
über die Stufen Tririitrobenzol, Triaminobenzol zum Phloroglucin,
gering, nachteilig ist das Verfahren auch wegen der hiermit verbundenen Abwasserproble^ie: Die bei der Oxydation
und der Reduktion anfallenden Abwässer sind stark sauer, enthalten die Schwermetalle Chrom bzw. Eisen und müssen daher
aufbereitet werden.
In jüngster Zeit sind noch zwei weitere technische Synthesen für Phloroglucin bekannt geworden: Nach dem Verfahren der DE-OS
25 02 429 wird Benzol-tricarbonsäure-(1.3.5)-triamid in wäßrigmineralsaurem
Medium chloriert, das hierbei erhaltene Benzoltricarbonsäure- (1.3. 5) -tri-N-chlorarnid durch Behandlung mit
Ammoniak in 1.3. S-Triizreido-benzol überführt und dieses anschließend
in mineralsaurer Lösung hydrolysiert. Nach dem Verfahren der DE-OS 26 21 431 wird s-Triacetylbenzol in Benzol-1.3.5-tris-acetoxirn
überführt, dieses der Backmann-Umlagerung unterworfen und das hierbei erhaltene Substanzgenisch sauer verseift.
In beiden Fällen sind die Ausgangsstoffe leicht zugänglich, die
erzielten Ausbeuten hoch und außerdem werden reine Produkte erhalten.
Es ist nunmehr gelungen, eine weitere technische Phloroglucin-Synthese
zu entwickeln, die von einem leicht zugänglichen Ausgangsstoff ausgeht, nämlich von Hexachlorbenzol.
Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstallung
von Phloroglucin, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man Hexachlorbenzol bei Temperaturen von 50 bis 250 °c

mit der 3 bis 20-fachen molaren Menge Natriumpropylat oder
Natriumisopropylat in einem aprotischen Lösungsmittel zu Trichlcrphloroglucin-tripropyläther bzw. Trichlorphloroglucintriisopropyläther
umsetzt, dieses mittels metallischem Natrium zum Phloroglucintripropyläther bzw. Phloroglucintriisopropyläther
dechloriert und in bekannter Waise zu Phloroglucin verseift.
Hexachlorbenzol steht in der Technik in großen Mangen zur Verfügung,
beispielsweise fällt es als Abfallprodukt bei der Chlorierung von Propylen an. Hexachlorbenzol ist wegen seiner
Toxizität eina recht problematische Verbindung, deren Verwertung und Beseitigung bislang große Schwierigkeiten bereitet. Geringe
Mangen können zwar durch Oxydation zu Chloranil verwertet werden. Ein weiterer, jedoch ebenfalls kleiner Teil wird derzeit noch
zu Pentachlorphenol verarbeitet und in Holzschutzmitteln verwendet, allerdings zeichnet sich bereits jetzt schon ab, daß
dieses Einsatzgebiet aus ökologischen Gründen alsbald verschlossen wird. Der größte Teil des Hexachlorbenzol ist jedoch
nicht verwertbar, zudem läßt es sich weder verbrennen noch vergraben. Es mußte daher bislang chemisch beseitigt werden.
So gibt es heute Chemikalienverwertungsunternehmen, welche sich die Abnahme von Hexachlorbenzol teuer bezahlen lassen. Es ist
daher außerordentlich vorteilhaft, daß mit dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren eine sinnvolle Verwertungsmöglichkeit für Hexachlor
benzol eröffnet wird.
Anstelle von reinem Hexachlorbenzol können auch die in der
Technik anfallenden Hexachlorbenzol haltigen Abfallgemische von chlorierten Kohlenwasserstoffen verwertet werden. Ein Bei
spiel hierfür sind die bei der Chlorierung von Propylen an fallenden Gemische aus ca. 65 Gew.-% Hexachlorbenzol, ca.
Gew.-% Hexachlorbutadien und ca. 10 Gew.-% Hexachloräthan.

Diese Eeiprodukte lassen sich leicht von Hexachlorbenzol abtrennen,
z.B. durch Extraktion mit Methanol.
Die Umsetzung des Hexachlorbenzol mit dem Alkoholat erfolgt
bei Temperaturen im Boreich von 50 bis 25O°c. Niedrige oder
höhere Temperaturen sind ebenfalls möglich, aus ökonomischen
Gründen jedoch wenig vorteilhaft. Die bevorzugte Reaktionstemp=ratur
beträgt 100 bis 200 0C.
Natriuxnpropylat bzw. Natriurtiisopropylat wird in der üblichen
Weise aus Natrium und Propylalkohol bzw. Isopropylalkohol hergestellt. Es wird in Mengen von 3 bis 20 Mol je Mol
Hexachlorbenzol eingesetzt. Um eine vollständige Umsetzung des
Hexachlorbenzols zu gewährleisten, sollte diese Menge nicht
unterschritten v/erden. Größere Alkoholatrr.engen sind aus
ökonomischen Gründen zu vermeiden. Vorzugsweise wird die 5 bis 6-fache molare Menge Natriumpropylat- bzw. Natriumisopropylat
eingesetzt.
Bei der Synthese des Phloroglucinäthers werden erfindungsgemäß aprotische Lösungsmittel verwendet. Geeignet sind alle
üblichen aprotischen Lösungsmittel wie die N-dialkylierten
Amide kurzkettiger Carbonsäuren, z.E. Dimethylformanid, Diäthylformamid
und Dimethylacetamid, Dimethylsulfon, Tetramethylsulfon
und Dimethyl-tetramethylensulfon. Bevorzugt werden Hexamethylphosphorsäuretriamid,
Methylphosphonsäuretetramethyldiamid,
Dimethylsulfoxid, N-Methylpyrrolidon, Pyridin oder Ν,Ν,Ν',Ν1-Tetramethyläthylendiamin
eingesetzt. Die Lösungsmittelmenge ist nicht kritisch· Das Gewichtsverhältnis Hexachlorbenzol zu
Lösungsmittel beträg-c vorzugsweise 1 : 1 bis 1 : 50, insbesondere
1 : 5 bis 1 : 10.

Die Umsetzung des Hexachlorbenzol mit dem Alkoholat erfolgt
in der für Oxalkylierungen üblichen Weise, indem man das Gemisch aus Hexachlorbenzol, Alkoholat und Lösungsmittel bis
zum Abschluß der Reaktion erhitzt, z.B. unter Rückfluß, danach das Lösungsmittel abzieht und den Rückstand nach dem Abtrennen
der anorganischen Salze destilliert.
überraschenderweise verläuft die Cxalkylierung bei Einhaltung
der erfindungsgeraäßen Verfahrensbedi^gungen mit hoher
Selektivität zu dem gewünschten Triäther. Diese nucleophile Substitution des Hexachlorbenzol verläuft nämlich bei Anwendung
von Natriuircnethylat vorwiegend zu einem Gemisch der isomeren
Disubstitutionsprodukte. Man erhält hierbei ein Gemisch aus
63 - 65 Mo 1-% Tetrachlorresorcindiiuethyläther, 23 - 26 Mol-%
Tetrachlorbrenzcatechindimethyläther und 2-10 Mol-% Tetrachlorhydrochinondimethylather. Daneben entsteht in einer
Ausbeute von nur 4-7 Mol-% Trichlorphloroglucintrimethyläther
(G.G. Yakobson et al., Zh. Obshch. Khim. 35 (1), 137 (1965);
CA. j=2_, 13 O73 (1965) . Ähnliche Ergebnisse werden auch bei
Anwendung von Natriumäthylat erhalten. Selbstverständlich sind
derartige Reaktionsgemische nicht für die Herstellung von Phloroglucin geeignet. Auch mit den höhermolekularen homologen
Alkoholaten wie Natriunbutylat verläuft die Oxalkylierung weniger selektiv als beim erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren. Beim erfindungsgemäßen
Verfahren verläuft die nucleophile Substitution hingegen überraschend vorwiegend in 1.3.5-Stellung zum Trichlorphloroglucintrialkylather,
und zwar mit Selektivitäten im Bereich von 85 bis 95 % und mit Ausbeuten im Bereich von 80 bis 90 % d. Th.
Die Dechlorierung der auf die oben beschriebene Weise erhaltenen Trichlorphloroglucin-tripropyl- und -triisopropyl&ther
erfolgt mit metallischem Natrium in der für die Dechlorierung aromatischer Halogenkohlenwasserstoffe üblichen Weise. Hiernach
wird der Trichlorphloroglucinäther in einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel, wie z.B. in einem Alkohol wie Äthanol, Propanol

oder Isopropanol gelöst, mit einem Überschuß an metallischem
Natrium versetzt und solange erhitzt, bis sich das Natrium vollständig aufgelöst hat.Danach wird das Reaktionsgemisch
mit Wasser verdünnt und das dechlorierte Produkt mit einem geeigeneten Lösungsmittel v/ie s.B. Äthyläther, Methylenchlorid,
Chloroform oder Hexan extrahiert. Eei der Destillat dieses Extraktes erhält man die Phioroglucintrialkylather in reiner
Form, Die Ausbeute ist in dieser Verfahrensstufe praktisch
quantitativ.
Die Verseifung des Phloroglucinäthers erfolgt in der für diese Verbindungskiasse üblichen Weise, beispielsweise mittels Chlorwasserstoff
oder andaran Mineralsäuren wie Schwefelsäure oder Bromwasserstoff. Aus ökonomischen Gründen wird Chlorwasserstoff
angewendet. Es können auch Gemische aus Halogenwasserstoff und Eisessig oder Acetanhydrid eingesetzt werden. Vorzugsweise
wird die Verseifung mit konzentrierter Salzsäure und bei Raumtemperatur, d.h. bei 15 bis 25°C durchgeführt. Auch diese
Reaktionsstufe verläuft praktisch quantitativ.
DaB erfindungsgemäße-Verfahren eignet sich vorzüglich für die
technische Herstellung des Phloroglucins. Abgesehen von der hohen
Ausbeute und der einfachen Durchführbarkeit beruht sein besonderer Vorteil darauf, daß ein. unentgeltlich erhältlicher
Rohstoff eingesetzt werden kann und zudem noch, ein Beitrag für
den Umweltschutz geleistet wird.
Phloroglucin dient als Entwickler im Diazotypie-Verfahren, als
Vernetzungs-, Vulkanisier-, Stabilisier- und Antikorrosionsmittel
sowie als Kupplungskomponente bei der Herstellung zahlreicher Farbstoffe. In der Analytik wird es als Reagenz auf
Aldehyde, Pantosen, Lignin, Galaktosen und andere Stoffe ver wendet. Ferner wird es bei der Herstellung von Cumarinen,
Flavonolen und von Pharmazeutika benötigt.

Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren wird durch die nachstehenden
Beispiele in einzelnen näher erläutert.
7,13 g (0,025 Mol) Hexachlorbenzol und 12,3 g (0,15 Mol)
Natriumpropylat wurden 2 Stunden in 50 ml Pyridin unter Rückfluß erhitzt. Die abgekühlte Reaktionsruischung wurde mit 200 ml
Wasser verdünnt und mit 10 gev,Tichtsprozentiger Salzsäure bis
zum pH 5 angesäuert. Anschließend wurde zweimal mit je 100 ml Chloroform extrahiert. Das Extraktionsmittel wurde im Vakuum
abgezogen und der Rückstand bei 2 bis 3 mbar und einer Luftbadtamperatur
von 150 bis 2000C am Kugelrohr destilliert. Es wurden insgesamt 8,35 g (94 % d. Th.) der isomeren Trlpropoxytrichlorbenzole
erhalten. Das Gemisch bestand zu 85 % aus dem gewünschten Trichlorphloroglucintripropylather. Dies entspricht
einer Ausbeute von 80 % bezogen auf Hexachlorbenzol.
28,5 g (0,1 Mol) Hexachlorbenzol und 49,2 g (0,6 Mol) Natriumisopropylat
wurden in 200 ml Pyridin zwei Stunden unter Rückfluß erhitzt. Danach wurde die Hauptiuenge Pyridin abdestilliert
und der Rückstand unter Kühlung mit 150 ml 10 gewichtsprozentiger Salzsäure versetzt. Die organische Phase wurde in 100 ml
Tetrachlorkohlenstoff aufgenommen und mit Natriumsulfat getrocknet.
Nach dem Abdestillieren des Lösungsmittels wurde am Kugelrohr destilliert (2 mbar Luftbadtemperatur 180 - 2000C).
Es wurden 33,5 g Destillat erhalten, die 90 % des gewünschten Trichlorphloroglucintriisopropylathers enthielten. Das entspricht
einer Ausbeute von 84,4 % d. Th. Durch, Umfcristallisation
aus 50 ml Methanol wurden 27,5 g des reinen Produktes mit einem

5O g eines Abfal!gemisches von chlorierten Kohlenwasserstoffen,
bestehend aus 65 % Hexachlorbenzol, 25 % Eaxachiorbutadien und
10 % Kexachloräthan wurden mit 100 ml Methanol versatzt und eine
Stunde bei 2O°C gerührt. Es wurden 32 g unlösliche Anteile abgetrennt,-
die aus reinem Hs:-:s.chlcrbenzol bestanden. Dar Rückstand
(0,112 Mole Hexachlorbenzol) wurde in 400 ml Dimethylformamid
gelöst und in Gegenwart von 50 g (0,61 Mol) Natriuiaisopropylat
über Nacht bei 140 C gerührt. Das Lösungsmittel wurde abdestilliert
und der im Rückstand verbliebene Trichlorphlcroglucintriisopropyläther in der bei Beispiel 2 beschriebenen
Weise gewonnen. Die Ausbeute betrug 35,8 g (87 % d. Th. bezogen auf den Hexachlorbenzoigehalt des Abfallgemisch.es) .
B) Dechlorierung der Trichlorphloroglucinäther
Beispiel 4
3,55 g (0,01 MoI) Trichlcrphloroglucintriisopropyläther wurden
in 100 ml Isopropanol mit 5 g Natrium versetzt. Es wurde so lange unter Rückfluß erhitzt, bis sich alles Natrium gelöst
hatte. Danach wurde mit 100 ml Wasser verdünnt, mit 15 gewichtsprozentiger Salzsäure neutralisiert, die organische Phase
in Äthyläther aufgenommen, der &thyläther abgezogen und der
Rückstand am Kugelrohr (2-3 ir.bar, Luftbadtemperatur: 130 1500C)
destilliert. Es wurden 2,47 g PhloroglucintriisopropylSther
erhalten: das entspricht einer Ausbeute von 98 % d. Th.
Trichlcrphlcroglucintriprcpyläther wurde in der bei Beispiel 4
beschriebenen Weise dechloriert. Es wurden 2,45 g Phloroglucintripropyläther erhalten; das entspricht einer Ausbeute von
97,2 % d. Th.

C) Ätherspaltung der Phlorogluclntrlather
Beispiel 6
2,52 g (10 mMol) Phloroglucintriisopropylather und 150 ml
konzentrierte Salzsäure wurden bei Raumtemperatur über Nacht gerührt. Spuren ausgefallenes Phloroglucid wurden abgesaugt
und das Filtrat mit Natriumcarbonat so lange versetzt, bis sich ein pH-Wert von 2—3 eingestellt hatte. Danach wurde kontinuierlich
mit fithyläther extrahiert und Ätherextrakt eingeengt. Der aus Phloroglucin und wenig Phloroglucid bestehende Rückstand
wurde aus Wasser umkristallisiert. Die Ausbeute betrugt 1,38 g « 85,2 % d. Th. (Phloroglucindihydrat)

Claims (5)
1) verfahren zur Herstallung von Phloroglucin, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß man Hexachlorbenzol bei Temperaturen von 50 bis 25O°C mit der 3 bis 20-fachen molaren Menge Natriumpropylat
oder Natriunisopropylat in einem aprotischen Lösungsmittel zu Trichlorphlorcglucin-tripropyläther bzw. Trichlorphloroglucin-triisopropyläther
umsetzt, dieses mittels metallischem Natrium zum Phloroglucin-tripropyläther bzw.
Phloroglucin-triisopropyläther dechloriert und in bekannter Weise zu Phloroglucin verseift.
2) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man
bei der Herstellung des Phloroglucinäthers die 5 bis 6-fache molare Menge Natriumpropylat bzw. Natriumlsopropylat einsetzt.
3} Verfahren nach den Ansprüchen 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man bei der Herstellung des Phloroglucinäthers Reaktionstemperaturen im Bereich von 100 bis 2000C anwendet.
4) Verfahren nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
dafl man bei der Herstellung des Phloroglucinäthers als aprotisches Lösungsmittel Hexaiaethylphosphorsäuretriamid,
Hethylphosphonsäuretetramethyldiamid, Dimethylsulfoxid,
Dimethylformamid, E-Methylpyrrolidon, Pyridin oder Ν,Ν,Ν1,
N·-Tetramethyläthylendiamin einsetzt.
5) Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man
die Verseifung mittels konzentrierter Mineralsäure durchführt.
