Description
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind Triarylphosphatmischungen und diese Gemische enthaltende funktionelle
Flüssigkeiten.

jo nelle Flüssigkeiten, wie hydraulische Flüssigkeiten,
Schmiermitteln und dergleichen, verwendet. Dies geschieht allein in vollständig synthetischen Produkten,
sowie in Form von Zusätzen zu Mineralölprodukten, um diesen Hochdruckeigenschaften zu verleihen.
Zu neutralen Phosphorsäureestern gehören drei Klassen von Verbindungen, nämlich Triarylphosphate
und alkylsubstituierte Triarylphosphate sowie gemischte Alkylarylphosphate. Von diesen Verbindungen sind
die Triarylphosphate im allgemeinen wegen ihrer thermischen Stabilität, ihres geringen Dampfdrucks,
ihrer Geruchlosigkeit, ihrer geringen Reaktionsfähigkeit und ihrer geringen Entflammbarkeit bekannt. Diese
Eigenschaften sind erforderlich, wenn die Verbindungen in Schmiermitteln für Hochtemperaturzwecke in der
Industrie und für Flugzeuge verwendet werden. Die Triarylphosphate als solche sind jedoch wegen ihrer
geringen Schmierfähigkeit und ihrer schlechten Viskositätseigenschaften als Schmiermittel für diese Zwecke
ungeeignet. Phosphate, die eine gute Schmierfähigkeit und Viskosität besitzen, insbesondere Trialkylphosphate
und Alkyldiarylphosphate, sind im allgemeinen wegen ihrer geringen Oxidationsstabilität für Hochtemperaturanwendungszwecke
nicht geeignet. Es ist daher üblich, Estergemische einzusetzen, um einen Ausgleich der
gewünschten Eigenschaften zu erreichen.
In den letzten Jahren haben sich die Betriebsbedingungen in industriellen Anlagen, wie bei Flugzeugen,
Raketen und dergleichen, ständig verschärft Die Folge davon ist eine erhöhte Nachfrage nach synthetischen
Schmiermitteln und hydraulischen Flüssigkeiten, die eine gute Viskosität, eine hohe Schmierfähigkeit und
eine gute Belastbarkeit aufweisen und dazu geeignet sind, dem oxidativen und thermischen Abbau zu
widerstehen. Die bisherigen Anstrengungen, solche Flüssigkeiten zur Verfügung zu stellen, waren in erster
Linie auf Mischungen ausgewählter Phosphorsäureester und das Einbringen vieler Zusätze, wie Schmiermittel,
Viskositätsindexverbesserer, Oxidationsinhibitoren und
dergleichen, gerichtet. Insbesondere waren alkylsubstituierte
Triarylphosphate, wie Trixylenylphosphat, von besonderem Interesse, weil bekannt ist, daß das
Vorliegen von Alkylgmppen dem Ester das gewünschte Schmiervermögen verleiht Weil jedoch die Alkylgmppen
die Oxidationsstabilität des Esters verringern, waren bisher alkylsubstituierte Triarylphosphate im
allgemeinen dort ungeeignet, wo eine Oxidationsstabilität erforderlich war. Obgleich eine gewisse Verbesserung
der Schmierfähigkeit und der Oxidationsbeständigkeit durch die Verwendung von Additiven, wie dies
nach dem Stand der Technik üblich war, erreicht werden konnte, besteht nach wie vor ein Bedürfnis nach
Phosphorsäureesterprodukten, die als solche die wünschenswerten Eigenschaften besitzen.
Die Aufgabe der Erfindung ist daher die Schaffung von Triarylphosphatmischungen, die eine einzigartige
Kombination von Eigenschaften aufweisen und insbesondere als funktioneile Flüssigkeiten geeignet sind und
die den bekannten alkylsubstituierten Triarylphosphaten in ihrer thermischen und oxidativen Stabilität
überlegen sind.
Diese Aufgabe wird nun durch die Triarylphosphatmischungen gemäß Hauptanspruchs gelöst.
Die Unteransprüche 2 bis 7 betreffen besonders bevorzugte Ausführungsformen dieser erfindungsgemäßen
Triarylphosphatmischungen.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind ferner funktionell Flüssigkeiten gemäß den Ansprüchen 8 bis 13, die neben
den erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen mindestens eine weitere flüssige Komponente enthalten,
die zur Formulierung von funktionellen Flüssigkeiten geeignet ist
Die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen können durch Umsetzung von Phenolen und ausgewählten
substituierten Phenolen mit Phosphoroxidchlorid unter Anwendung üblicher Verfahrensweisen nach dem
folgenden Reaktionsschema hergestellt werden:

Als Phenole kann man bei der obigen Reaktion ein Gemisch aus Phenol und substituierten Phenolen
verwenden, das ein solches Mischungsverhältnis aufweist, daß die erfindungsgemäß angestrebten substituierten
Triarylphosphate gebildet werden.
Man kann die einzelnen Phosphatester auch aus den spezifischen Phenolen und substituierten Phenolen
herstellen und diese Ester unter Bildung der erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen mischen.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen besitzen eine gute Schmierfähigkeit, sind gegen die
Oxidation beständig und sind insbesondere als schmierende und Druck übertragende funktioneile Flüssigkeiten
geeignet.
Die in den erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen enthaltenen Triarylphosphate können leicht
nach üblichen Verfahren hergestellt werden. So ist es beispielsweise bekannt, daß Ester cyclischer Alkohole
mit Phosphorsäure dadurch hergestellt werden können, daß man einen Alkohol oder ein Alkoholgemisch mit
einem Phosphoroxidhalogenid bei Temperaturen von etwa O0C bis 300cC umsetzt Die Umsetzung erfolgt
durch Erhitzen des Gemisches aus den ausgewählten Reaktionspartnern auf die Reaktionstemperatur, was
vorzugsweise in Gegenwart eines Katalysators, wie metallischem Calcium, Magnesium oder Aluminium
oder einem Chlorid von Magnesium, Aluminium. Eisen, Zinn oder dergleichen erfolgt. Die Temperatur, auf die
das Gemisch erhitzt werden muß, um eine schnelle Reaktion zu bewirken, hängt natürlich von den
verwendeten Reaktionspartnern, den Mengenverhälts nissen, in denen diese eingesetzt werden, dem Vorliegen
oder dem Fehlen eines Katalysators oder dergleichen ab. Da die Reaktion jedoch unter Bildung von
Halogenwasserstoff abläuft ist es notwendig, das Gemisch auf eine Temperatur zu erhitzen, bei der der

werden vorzugsweise bei der niedrigsten geeigneten Reaktionstemperatur und gewöhnlich unterhalb
300eC und vorzugsweise zwischen 1200C und 2200C
durchgeführt
Als Phosphoroxidhalogenid kann man Phosphoroxidchlorid oder Phosphoroxidbromid verwenden, während
man als Alkohol ein Phenol oder ein substituiertes Phenol oder ein Alkalimetallsalz davon einsetzen kann.
Die Triarylphosphatmischungen kann man dadurch herstellen, daß man Phenole und substituierte Phenole
einzeln in einer Reihe getrennter Reaktionen mit dem Phosphoroxidhalogenid umsetzt oder indem man ein
Gemisch aus solchen Phenolen und substituierten Phenolen gleichzeitig in einer einzigen Reaktion
umsetzt. Im ersteren Falle werden die substituierten Phenole mit dem Phosphoroxidhalogenid unter Bildung
von Monoarylphosphorsäuredihalogeniden oder Diarylphosphorsäuremonohalogeniden
umgesetzt, die anschließend mit Phenol vollständig verestert werden. Bei dieser Verfahrensführung ist es bei der Bildung des
Arylphosphorsäurehalogenid-Zwischenprodukts vorgesehen, das substituierte Phenol in geringfügigem
Überschuß gegenüber der theoretisch erforderlichen Menge zu verwenden, da die Ausbeute des Zwischenproduktes
dann im allgemeinen am höchsten ist. Weiterhin ist es erwünscht, wenngleich nicht erforderlich,
das Arylphosphorsäurehalogenid-Zwischenprodukt durch Destillation oder in anderer Weise vor der
Beendigung der Reaktion mit dem Phenol zu reinigen, weil dann die angestrebte Triarylphosphatmischungen
in maximaler Ausbeute und Reinheit erhalten werden.
Die Herstellung der Triarylphosphatmischungen durch die gleichzeitige Umsetzung eines Gemisches aus
unterschiedlich substituierten Phenolen und Phenol ist bevorzugt, wenn dies zur Vereinfachung und aus
wirtschaftlichen Gründen möglich ist. Die Phenole werden in den errechneten Anteilen vermischt, die die
gewünschten Konzentrationen der jeweiligen Phenolsubstituenten in dem letztendlich angestrebten Ester
ergeben. Wenngleich nach diesem Verfahren notwendigerweise ein undefinierbares Gemisch von spezifischen
Triarylphosphatestern gebildet wird, können die Eigenschaften dieses Produkts durch die relativen
Molverhältnisse der ausgewählten Phenylsubstituenten gezielt gesteuert werden, so daß die erhaltenen
Produkte als funktioneile Flüssigkeiten geeignet sind. Nach der Beendigung der Veresterungsreaktion kann
das Reaktionsgemisch mit Luft oder Stickstoff durchgeblasen oder einem Vakuum unterworfen werden, um
den Halogenwasserstoff und andere flüchtige Verunreinigungen zu entfernen.
Ein für die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen besonders bevorzugtes Triarylphosphat enthält
als Arylalkylsubstituenten einen Cumylrest und wird vorzugsweise aus Cumolphenol hergestellt. Cumylphenyl
selbst kann durch Alkylierung von Phenol mit dehydratisiertem «-Methylstyrol gebildet werden, wobei
das dehydratisierte rohe α-Methyls ty rol bei 38° C
dem Phenol, das Bortrifluorid als Katalysator enthält,
zugegeben wird, worauf das Gemisch etwa 1 Stunde bei 38° C gehalten wird, um die Reaktion ablaufen zu lassen,
wonach Wasser zur Deaktivierung des Katalysators zugegeben wird. Dann werden überschüssiges Phenol
und andere niedrigsiedende Anteile durch Destillation entfernt, worauf das Cumylphenol über Kopf als
Mittelschnitt abdestilliert wird. Cumylphenol besitzt einen Brechungskoeffizienten bei 78° C von
1,570 ±0,001.
Weitere für die Bildung der erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen geeignete substituierte
Phenole, die nach dem oben beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt werden können, sind 2-Phenyl-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-butan,
das man durch Umsetzung von Phenol mit entweder «-Äthylstyrol oder 2-Phenylbuten-2
erhält, 2-Phenyl-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-pentan, das man durch Umsetzung von Phenol mit entweder a-n-Propylstyrol
oder 2-Phenylpenten-2 erhält, 2-Phenyl-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-hexan,
das man durch Umsetzung von Phenol mit 2-Phenylhexen-l erhält, 3-Phenyl-3-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-hexan,
das man durch Umsetzung von Phenol mit 3-Phenylhexen-3 erhält, und 2-Phenyl-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methylbutan,
das man durch Umsetzen von Phenol mit 2-Phenyl-3-methylbuten-2 erhält.
Die folgenden Beispiele dienen der weiteren Erläuterung der Erfindung und der Herstellung von Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat,
einem bevorzugten Bestandteil der erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen.
Man beschickt ein Reaktionsgefäß, das mit einem Rührwerk und einer gekühlten Kondensiervorrichtung
ausgestattet ist, mit 18,41 kg Phosphoroxidchlorid und 0,72 kg Aluminiumchlorid. Dann erhitzt man die
Aufschlämmung auf 380C und gibt langsam 25,49 kg geschmolzenes Cumylphenol mit einer solchen Geschwindigkeit
zu, daß es mit Hilfe des Kühlsystems gelingt, das Phosphoroxidchlorid aus dem abgepumpten
Gasstrom zu kondensieren und wieder in das Reaktionsgefäß zurückzuführen.
Nach beendigter Zugabe des Cumylphenols erhitzt man das Reaktionsgemisch auf 125° C und beläßt es
während 1 Stunde bei dieser Temperatur. Dann verringert man den Druck langsam auf 107 bis 133 mbar
und hält den Ansatz während einer weiteren Stunde bei minimalen Rückflußbedingungen. Anschließend bringt
man das Reaktionsgefäß wieder auf Atmosphärendruck und gibt langsam 24,85 kg Phenol mit einer Geschwindigkeit
zu, die bestimmt wird durch die Fähigkeit des Überkopfsystems, den gebildeten Chlorwasserstoff zu
entfernen. Man hält das Reaktionsgefäß dann während 1 Stunde bei 14O0C, worauf man den Druck auf 26,7 bis
40 mbar absenkt und die Temperatur während einer weiteren Stunde zur Beendigung der Reaktion auf
16O0C erhöht.
Dann deaktiviert man den Katalysator in dem Reaktionsgemisch durch Zugabe von 1,18 kg Wasser.
Man bringt den Ansatz durch Zugabe einer 50%igen Natriumhydroxidlösung dann auf einen pH-Wert von
8,8, läßt ihn während einer halben Stunde stehen und hält ihn während dieser Zeit bei einer Temperatur von
unterhalb etwa 30° C. Die Veresterungsreaktion wird bei diesem Stehenlassen unter alkalischen Bedingungen
nach der Schotten-Baumann-Reaktion dadurch beendet, daß man die Salze der überschüssigen Phenole mit
irgendwelchen rückständigen Chloridaten reagieren läßt. Nach dem Stehen lassen unter alkalischen
Bedingungen wird der Ester mit Hilfe herkömmlicher Wasch- und Dehydratisierungsverfahren gewonnen.
Die physikalischen Eigenschaften des Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphats sind die folgenden:

In ähnlicher Weise bildet man durch Umsetzen von 2 Mol Cumylphenol und 1 Mol Phenol pro Mol
Phosphoroxidchlorid Di-(cumylphenyl)-phenylphosphat
is und durch Umsetzen von 3 Mol Cumylphenol pro Mol
Phosphoroxidchlorid Tri-(cumylphenyl)-phosphat. Man bildet weitere substituierte Triarylphosphate in ähnlicher
Weise, indem man andere substituierte Phenole anstelle von Cumylphenol bei der oben beschriebenen
Die wesentlichen Elemente der erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen sind die Phenolsubstituenten,
die oben als Alkylgruppen mit 4 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen und als Alkylarylgruppen beschrieben
sind. Es hat sich gezeigt, daß die Eigenschaften der funktionellen Flüssigkeit im Hinblick auf ihre Oxidationsbeständigkeit,
ihre Viskosität, ihres Schmiervermögens und ihrer Selbstentzündungstemperatur in der
gewünschten Weise gesteuert und optimal gestaltet werden kann, indem man die relativen Anteile dieser
Elemente entsprechend ausgleicht
Insbesondere hat sich gezeigt, wenn man den Anteil der Alkylarylgruppen in dem Estergemisch erhöht, die
Oxidationsbeständigkeit und die Viskosität der Flüssigkeit erhöht werden und daß bei Erhöhen der
Alkylgruppen die Schmierfähigkeit der Flüssigkeit zunimmt und man ein Produkt mit einer dazwischenliegenden
Viskosität erhält. Wenn sowohl der Anteil der Alkylgruppen als auch der Alkylarylgruppen gesenkt
wird, erniedrigt sich die Viskosität der Triarylphosphatmischung
und es steigert sich ihre Selbstentzündungstemperatur.
Durch die geeignete Auswahl der relativen Anteile des Phenols, des alkylsubstituierten Phenols und des
alkylarylsubstituierten Phenols ist es möglich, Triarylphosphatmischungen
mit einem weiten Bereich wünschenswerter Eigenschaften zu bereiten.
Überraschenderweise besitzen die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen eine weit größere
Oxidationsbeständigkeit als dies aufgrund der Anzahl der Kohlenstoffatome der Alkylgruppen vorausgesetzt
werden konnte. Es ist bekannt, daß durch das Vorliegen von Alkylgruppen in Triarylphosphaten die Schmierfähigkeit
der Flüssigkeit verbessert wird, daß aber ebenso die Produkte gegen Oxidation anfälliger werden.
Überraschenderweise hat sich nun aber gezeigt, daß die Oxidationsbeständigkeit der alkylsubstituierten Triphenylphosphate
sich umgekehrt mit der Zahl der vorhandenen Alkylkohlenstoffatome ändert und daß
beispielsweise Trixylenylphosphat weniger stabil ist als Trikresylphosphat, das seinerseits weniger stabil ist als
Triphenylphosphat. Eine erfindungsgemäß bevorzugte Triarylphosphatmischung enthält ein Gemisch aus zwei
Teilen Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat und einem Teil Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat mit durchschnittlich 5
Alkylkohlenstoffatomen pro Ester. Die überlegene Oxidationsbeständigkeit dieser Triarylphosphatmischung
im Vergleich zu anderen alkylsubstituierten
Triphenylphosphaten mit vergleichbarem Alkylgehalt,
wird durch die Angaben der nachstehenden Tabelle I bestätigt, wobei die erhaltenen Werte mit Hilfe der
weiter unten definierten Oxidations- und !Corrosions-
versuche ermittelt wurden. Die gute Oxidationsbeständigkeit bezieht sich auf eine geringe Viskositätserhöhung,
eine geringe Angriffswirkung gegen Metalle und keine Kohlen- oder Schlammbildung.

Die Eigenschaften irgendeiner besonderen Triarylphosphatmischung
hängen sowohl von der Art der Gruppen R als auch von den relativen Anteilen der
Bestandteile der Mischung ab. Demzufolge muß die Anzahl der Gruppen R in Betracht gezogen werden,
wenn man die Anteile der zur Verwendung vorgesehenen substituierten Phenolreaktionspartner für die
Herstellung der Ester bestimmt. Die Gruppen R der in den erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen
enthaltenen Phosphorsäureester enthalten 5 bis 18 Kohlenstoff atome und vorzugsweise 6 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatome.
Die folgenden Beispiele verdeutlichen bevorzugte erfindungsgemäße Triarylphosphatmischungen, bei denen
als Arylalkylsubstituent eine Cumylphenylgruppe enthalten ist und der Alkylsubstituent Nonylgruppen
umfaßt. Das Verhältnis der Reaktionspartner wird derart gesteuert, daß man einen Ester erhält, der
nominell 2 Teile Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat und 1 Teil Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat enthält.
Für die Herstellung dieser Triarylphosphatmischung ist es erwünscht, eine Zweistufenreaktion durchzuführen,
bei der 1 Mol Nonylphenol und 2 Mol Cumylphenol zunächst mit 3 Mol Phosphoroxidchlorid umgesetzt
werden, wodurch man ein Gemisch aus Monoarylphosphorsäuredichloridaten
erhält, die anschließend mit Phenol vollständig verestert werden. Dabei kann man
Nonylphenol und Cumylphenol vermischen und gleichzeitig unter guten Ergebnissen umsetzen. Die Reaktionen
können auch unter Bildung der Dichloridate getrennt durchgeführt werden und die Veresterung der
Teilesterprodukte, die entweder vorher oder nachher kombiniert werden können, wird durch die Reaktion mit
dem Phenol beendet.
Gewünschtenfalls können verbesserte Triarylphosphatmischungen
dadurch hergestellt werden, daß man ein Gemisch mit einem Gehalt von 2 Mol Cumylphenol,
1 Mol Nonylphenol und 6 Mol Phenol mit 3 Mol Phosphoroxidchlorid umgesetzt. Das Produkt dieser
Reaktion wird geeigneterweise hinsichtlich seiner nominellen Zusammensetzung als aus 2 Teilen Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat
und 1 Teil Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat bezeichnet, wobei jedoch darauf hinzuweisen
ist, daß das Produkt tatsächlich auch andere Ester, wie
Di-(nonylphenyl)-phenylphosphat,
Di-(cumylphenyl)-phenylphosphat,
Cumylphenyl-nonylphenyl-phenylphosphat,
Triphenylphosphat
Di-(cumylphenyl)-phenylphosphat,
Cumylphenyl-nonylphenyl-phenylphosphat,
Triphenylphosphat
und dergleichen enthält.

diikt kann man zusätzliche Mengen an Triphenylphosphat
nach Wunsch zugeben, um die relativen Anteile der Cumylphenyl- und Nonylsubstituenten in der Triarylphosphatmischung
zu senken und dadurch die Viskosität zu vermindern und die Selbstentzündungstemperatür
des Gemisches zu erhöhen.
Die folgenden Beispiele verdeutlichen die Herstellung einer erfindungsgemäß bevorzugten Triarylphosphatmischung,
die 2 Teile Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat und 1 Teil Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat enthält.
Man beschickt ein Reaktionsgefäß, das mit einem Rührer, einem Kühler und einer Zuführungsleitung
unter der Flüssigkeitsoberfläche versehen ist, mit 8,74 kg Nonylphenol und 16,97 kg Cumylphenol. Man
erhitzt das Gemisch auf etwa 100° C und gibt dann 0,25 kg Magnesiumchlorid als Katalysator zu· Dann gibt
man langsam unter Rühren über die unter der Flüssigkeitsoberfläche liegende Zuführungsleitung
18^7 kg Phosphoroxidchlorid zu und führt dem
Reaktionsgefäß Wärme zu, um die Reaktionstemperatur bei etwa 1000C zu halten.

erhitzt man das Reaktionsgefäß auf 125° C und hält es
während 1 Stunde bei dieser Temperatur. Dann senkt man den Druck langsam auf 107 bis 133 mbar und hält
das Reaktionsgefäß während etwa 1 Stunde bei diesem Druck, um die Reaktion und die Bildung von
Nonylphenylphosphordichloridat und Cumylphenylphosphordichloridat zu beenden und den als Nebenprodukt
auftretenden Chlorwasserstoff aus der Reaktionsmasse zu entfernen.
Dann bringt man das Reaktionsgefäß auf Atmosphärendruck und gibt langsam über die unterhalb der
Flüssigkeitsoberfläche angeordnete Zuführungsleitung 24,71 kg Phenol zu, währenddem man den Inhalt des
Reaktionsgefäßes auf etwa 125° C hält. Nach Beendigung
der Phenolzugabe erhitzt man das Reaktionsgefäß auf 140° C und hält es während etwa 1 Stunde bei dieser
Temperatur. Dann senkt man den Druck des Reaktionsgefäßes langsam auf 26,7 bis 40 mbar und erhöht die
Temperatur dann nach 1 Stunde unter Beibehaltung des verminderten Drucks auf 16O0C, welche Bedingungen
man während einer weiteren Stunde beibehält
Zu diesem Zeitpunkt bringt man das Reaktionsgefäß wieder auf Atmosphärendruck und gibt unter Rühren
0,25 kg Magnesiumchlorid als Katalysator zu. Nach Beendigung der Zugabe dieses Katalysators verringert
man den Druck in dem Reaktionsgefäß erneut auf 26,7 bis 40 mbar bei 16O0C und hält das Reaktionsgefäß
während etwa 2 Stunden bei diesen Bedingungen, um die Veresterungsreaktion zu beenden und den gasförmigen
Chlorwasserstoff zu entfernen.
Als Produkt der Veresterungsreaktion erhält man ein klares, blaßgelbes Gemisch, das einen Teil Nonylphenyl-ο
diphenylphosphat und zwei Teile Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat enthält.
Man wiederholt das Verfahren von Beispiel 2 unter Verwendung unterschiedlicher Mengen an Nonylphenol
und Cumylphenol zur Bildung einer Reihe von Triarylphosphatmischungen mit verschiedener Zusammensetzung.
Beispiele der hergestellten Triarylphosphatmischungen und ihrer physikalischen Eigenschaften
sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle II zusammengestellt. Die Zusammensetzung der Triarylphosphatmischungen
ist als Molprozentsatz der Nonylphenylgruppen, Cumylphenylgruppen
und Phenylgruppen in den Triarylphosphatverbindungen angegeben.

Die Oxidations- und Korrosionsuntersuchung (O & K) wurde nach der »Federal Test Method
Standard 791 — Verfahren 5308.4« mit den folgenden Abänderungen durchgeführt:

Die Abriebangaben wurden nach dem herkömmlichen Shell-4-Kugelverfahren erhalten, das während 1
Stunde bei 625 min-' und einer Belastung von 40 kg bei 75° C durchgeführt wurde.
Die Selbstenzündung (A.I.T.) wurde nach dem ASTM-Verfahren D 2155-66 bestimmt.
In der obigen Tabelle wurde das Material des Beispiels (e) dadurch gebildet, daß man 6 Gew.-Teile der
Zubereitung von Beispiel (d) mit 2,5 Gew.-Teilen Triphenylphosphat vermischt, um die Viskosität der
Flüssigkeit zu senken und den A.I.T.-Wert zu erhöhen.
Aus den Zahlenwerten der obigen Tabelle II sind die vorteilhaften Eigenschaften der erfindungsgemäßen
Triarylphosphatmischungen ersichtlich. Im einzelnen ist zu entnehmen, daß die Oxidationsbeständigkeit, die
durch die Viskositätserhöhung in Prozent und durch die Kupferkorrosionsgeschwindigkeit ermittelt wurde, im
allgemeinen gut ist. Die Schmierfähigkeit der Triarylphosphatmischungen der Tabelle II ist ebenfalls sehr
gut, was man aus den Abriebzahlen entnehmen kann, da sämtliche Narbendurchmesser geringer als 1 mm waren.
Besonders bedeutend ist der geringe Narbendurchmesser, den man mit der Triarylphosphatmischung von
Beispiel (e) erhält und der die ausgezeichnete Schmierfähigkeit der erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen
bei geringer Erhöhung der Viskosität belegt.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind weiterhin die funktionellen Flüssigkeiten gemäß den Ansprüchen 9 bis
13, die neben den erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen weiterhin Farbstoffe, Stockpunkterniedriger,
Metalldeaktivatoren, Säurefänger, Antioxidationsmittel, Entschäumungsmittel, Viskositätsindexverbesserer,
die Schmierfähigkeit verbessernde Mittel, Streckmittel und dergleichen enthalten. Diese Additive, die für
funktioneile Flüssigkeiten auf der Grundlage von Phosphorsäureestern geeignet sind, sind allgemein
üblich und dem Fachmann bekannt.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen sind in den funktionellen Flüssigkeiten zusammen mit
flüssigen Komponenten enthalten, die für die Formulierung von funktionellen Flüssigkeiten geeignet sind.
Diese funktioneilen Flüssigkeiten können auch andere Flüssigkeiten enthalten, zu denen zusätzlich zu den
erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen Flüssigkeiten gehören, die von Erdöl abgeleitet sind, sowie
weitere synthetische Flüssigkeiten, einschließlich
halogenierte Benzole,
halogenierte Alkylbenzole,
halogeniertes Biphenyl,
monohalogenierte Diphenylether,
gemischte Arylalkylphosphate.
Die Mischungen der erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen mit anderen Flüssigkeiten unter Bildung
funktioneller Flüssigkeiten sind wertvoll, um eine oder mehrere spezifische Eigenschaften zu erzielen, wie
beispielsweise eine geringe Fließviskosität, wie sie für besondere Zwecke erforderlich ist. Zu weiteren
Flüssigkeiten, die zur Formulierung derartiger funktioneller Flüssigkeiten geeignet sind, gehören Phosphorsäureester,
wie
Kresyldiphenylphosphat,

Amide einer Säure des Phosphors, ein einschließlich Alkylphosphoramidate; Polyester, wie Ester von
Pentaerythrit, Dipentaerythrit und Trimethylolpropan;
Carbonsäureester, einschließlich der dimeren und trimeren Polycarbonsäureester; Organoorthosilikate;
Alkoxypolysiloxane und Organopolysiloxane, wie
Dimethylpolysiloxan,
Methylphenylpolysiloxan,
Methylchlorphenylpolysiloxan und Methyltrifluorpropylpolysiloxan;
Methylphenylpolysiloxan,
Methylchlorphenylpolysiloxan und Methyltrifluorpropylpolysiloxan;
2-Phenylmercapto-4'-phenoxydiphenylsulfid, o-Bis(phenylmercapto)-benzol,
2,5-( 1 -Hexyl-1 -mef hylnonyty-thiophen,
2-tert-Butylthiophen,
2,5-(l-Propylcyclobutyl)-thiophen,
2,4-(l -Methylcyclopentyl)-thiophen und
2,4-(l-n-Dodecylpentyl)-thiophen;
2-tert-Butylthiophen,
2,5-(l-Propylcyclobutyl)-thiophen,
2,4-(l -Methylcyclopentyl)-thiophen und
2,4-(l-n-Dodecylpentyl)-thiophen;
halogenierte aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie
Halogendiphenyläther, Halogenbenzole,
Halogenalkylbenzole, Halogennaphthylene und
halogenierte Polyphenyle;
Halogenalkylbenzole, Halogennaphthylene und
halogenierte Polyphenyle;
und von Erdöl abgeleitete Kohlenwasserstofföle.
Bei der Formulierung der funktionellen Flüssigkeiten für spezifische Zwecke können die erfindungsgemäßen
Triarylphosphatmischungen entweder einen größeren oder einen geringeren Teil der Gesamtzubereitung
ausmachen. Mit anderen Worten liegt es im Rahmen der vorliegenden Erfindung, nicht nur den erfindungsgemäßen
Triarylphosphatmischungen weitere Materialien zuzugeben, um die Eigenschaften dieser Mischungen zu
modifizieren, sondern ebenso die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen funktionellen Flüssigkeiten
zuzusetzen, die einen größeren Anteil irgendeiner anderen Basisflüssigkeit enthalten, um die Eigenschaften
dieses Basisansatzes zu ändern. Derartige Formulierungen werden durch die folgenden Beispiele erläutert.
70% Triarylphosphat mit dem Gehalt von
1 Teil Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat
2 Teilen Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat
3 Teilen Kresyldiphenylphosphat
30% Kresyldiphenylphosphat
30% Kresyldiphenylphosphat
Flüssigkeit (g) - Viskosität 30 cSt bei 38eC
29% Triarylphosphat mit dem Gehalt von
29% Triarylphosphat mit dem Gehalt von
1 Teil Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat
2 Teilen Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat
68,4% Kresyldiphenylphosphat
68,4% Kresyldiphenylphosphat
2,6% Tributylphosphat
Es hat sich gezeigt, daß die oben angegebenen Flüssigkeiten eine gute Schmierfähigkeit und eine gute
Oxidationsbeständigkeit besitzen. Die Flüssigkeiten f und g erläutern funktioneile Flüssigkeiten, in denen die
erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen in einer größeren bzw. geringeren Menge vorliegen.
Daher können die erfindungsgemäßen Triarylphosphatmischungen etwa 20 bis 100 Gew.-% der gesamten
funktionellen Flüssigkeit ausmachen, wenngleich es im allgemeinen bevorzugt ist, daß die erfindungsgemäßen
Triarylphosphatmischungen in Mengen von wenigstens etwa 20 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gewicht der
Gesamtflüssigkeit, vorhanden sind und in gewissen funktionellen Flüssigkeiten in Mengen von lediglich 10
Gew.-°/o oder weniger enthalten sein können.
Claims (13)
1. Triarylphosphatmischungen, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
den Gehalt von Phosphorsäureestern der allgemeinen Formel
worin R unabhängig voneinander Wasserstoffatome, Alkylgruppen mit 4 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen
oder Arylalkylgruppen, deren Arylgruppe durch ein tertiäres Kohlenstoffatom einer Alkylbrücke mit 3
bis 13 Kohlenstoffatomen mit dem Molekül verbunden ist, mit der Maßgabe bedeuten, daß 2 bis 45
Mol-% der gesamten R Alkylgruppen, 2 bis 45 Mol-% der gesamten Gruppen R Arylalkylgruppen
und etwa 50 bis 90 Mol-% der gesamten Gruppen R Wasserstoff atome darstellen.
2. Triarylphosphatmischungen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Alkylgruppen
bedeutenden Gruppen R etwa 6 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatome aufweisen und die Arylalkylgruppen bedeutenden
Gruppen R eine Alkylbrücke mit 3 bis etwa 7 Kohlenstoffatomen aufweisen.
3. Triarylphosphatmischungen nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Alkylgruppen R
Nonylgruppen und die Arylalkylgruppen R Cumylgruppen
bedeuten.
4. Triarylphosphatmischungen nach Anspruch 2, gekennzeichnet durch ein Gemisch aus Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat
und Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat.
5. Triarylphosphatmischungen nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Molverhältnis von
Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat zu Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat etwa 2 :1 beträgt.
6. Triarylphosphatmischungen nach Anspruch 2, gekennzeichnet durch ein Gemisch aus Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat,
Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat und Triphenylphosphat.
7. Triarylphosphatmischungen nach Anspruch 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Molverhältnis vom
Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat zu Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat etwa 2 :1 beträgt
8. Funktionelle Flüssigkeit, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie eine Triarylphosphatmischung nach
Anspruch 1 und wenigstens eine weitere flüssige Komponente, die zur Formulierung von funktioneilen
Flüssigkeiten geeignet ist, enthält
9. Funktionelle Flüssigkeit nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie als weitere flüssige
Komponente einen Phosphorsäureester, ein Amid einer Säure des Phosphors, einen Polyester, einen
Carbonsäureester, ein Organoorthosolikat, ein AIkoxypolysiloxan,
ein Organopolysiloxan, einen Aryläther, einen Arylthioäther, ein Monoalkylthiophen,
ein Dialkylthiophen, einen halogenieren aromati-
sehen Kohlenwasserstoff und/oder ein von Erdöl abgeleitetes Kohlenwasserstofföl enthält
10. Funktionelle Flüssigkeit, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie eine Triarylphosphatmischung nach
Anspruch 4 und wenigstens eine weitere flüssige Komponente, die zur Formulierung von funktioneilen
Flüssigkeiten geeignet ist, enthält.
11. Funktionelle Flüssigkeit nach Anspruch 10,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie ein Gemisch aus Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat, Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat
und Kresyldiphenylphosphat enthält.
12. Funktionelle Flüssigkeit, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie eine Triarylphosphatmischung nach
Anspruch 6 und wenigstens eine weitere flüssige Komponente, die zur Formulierung von funktionellen
Flüssigkeiten geeignet ist, enthält.
13. Funktionelle Flüssigkeit nach Anspruch 12, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie eine Mischung aus
Cumylphenyldiphenylphosphat, Nonylphenyldiphenylphosphat, Triphenylphosphat und Kresyldiphenylphosphat
enthält.
