Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung
öllöslicher Ester zur Verfügung zu stellen, die sich als
Zusätze in Schmiermitteln sowie in Kraft- und Brennstoffen eignen«
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist somit ein Verfahren zur Herstellung
öllöslicher Ester, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass man
A) mindestens eine durch einen Kohlenwasserstoffrest mit
mindestens etwa 50 aliphatischen C-Atomen substituierte aliphatische
Polycarbonsäure oder ihr reaktionsfähiges Derivat in an sich bekannter Weise mit
B) mindestens einem 2~ oder 3-wertigen aliphatischen Alkohol
und
C) mindestens einem Mindestens 4-wertigen aliphatischen Alkohol
verestert; wobei pro Mol der Komponente (A) insgesamt etwa 0,5 bis 5 Mol der Komponenten CB) und ti) eingesetzt werden.

besonders wichtiges Kennzeichen des Substituenten der Carbonsäuren und ihrer reaktionsfähigen Derivate (A) ist seine Grosse.
Der Substituent soll mindestens etwa 50 aliphatische C-Atome aufweiseno Diese untere Grenze beruht sowohl auf dem Gesichtspunlct
der Ollöslichkeit als auch auf jenem der Wirksamkeit der nach1 dem Verfahren der Erfindung hergestellten Ester als Zusätze
in Schmiermitteln sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffen. Ein weiterer wichtiger Gesichtspunkt bei der Wahl der Komponente (A)

Die Polycarbonsäuren und ihre reaktionsfähigen Derivate (A) sollen
ferner im wesentlichen frei von öllöslich machenden Ver-

zweigungen sein, d.h. Reβtenmit mehr als etwa 6 aliphatischen
C-Atomen. Obwohl einige solche Verzweigungen vorhanden sein
dürfen, soll ihr Anteil vorzugsweise höchstens einen solchen Rest auf je 25 aliphatische C-Atome der Hauptkohlenwasserstoff~
kette der Säuren oder ihrer Derivate (A) betragen· Die Polycarbonsäuren
und ihre Derivate (A) können auch polare Reste aufweisen, wie Halogen, z.B. Chlor- oder Bromatome, Oxo-, OxF-;
Formyl-, Sulfonyl-, Sulfinyl-, Thio- oder Nitrogruppen. Der Anteil
dieser polaren Reste soll vorzugsweise 10 des Kohlenwasserstoffanteils
der Carbonsäuren oder ihrer Derivate (A)(d.hc ohne Berücksichtigung der Carboxylgruppen bzw, ihrer funktioneilen

Wie in den vorgenannten Patentschriften beschrieben ist, gibt es mehrere Verfahren zur Herstellung der Polycarbonsäuren und ihrer
reaktionsfähigen Derivate (A).Diese Verfahren bestehen.im allgemeinen In der Umsetzung (1) einer olefinisch ungesättigten

Aue den vorstehenden Ausführungen iet ersiehtltch, daea die Polycarbonsäuren und Ihre Derivate (A) cyclische und/oüer aromatische
Reste enthalten können. Dennoch sind dieoe Carbonsäuren im wesentlionen aliphatischer Natur-, Bevorzugt verwendet werden aliphatieche Polycarbonsäuren, ihre Anhydride und Halogenide.
Die durch einen im wesentlichen gesättigten aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoff rest substituierten Bernstednsäuren und ihre Anhydride werden im Verfahren der Erfindung besonders bevorzugt
als PoIycarbonsäuren bzw, deren Derivate (A) eingesetzt. Diese
Bernsttinsäuren und ihre Derivate können leicht duroh Umsetzung
von Maleinsäureanhydrid mit einem hochmolekularen Olefin oder
Chlorkohlenwasserstoff, wie einem chlorierten Polyolefin, hergestellt werden· Die beiden Iieaktionskomponenten werden dabei auf
Temperaturen von etwa 100 bis 30G0C, vorzugsweise von 100 bis
Cf erhitzt. Wie in den vorgenannten Patentschriften erläutert 1st, erhält man ein substituiertes Bernsteinsäureanhydrid,
dessen Substituent sich vom Olefin oder Chlorkohlenwaaseretoff
ableitet. Das Produkt kann eur .Entfernung, sämtlicher oder eines
Teiles der olefinisch ungesättigten Bindungen nach herkömmlichen
Verfahren hydriert werden. Die eubstitulerten items te ineaurean»"
hydride können durch Behandlung mit Wasser oder Wasserdampf zu
den entsprechenden Säuren hydrolysiert werden.
Die zur Herstellung der erfindun^sgemäes eingesetzten Polycarbonsäuren und ihrer Derivate (A) verwendeten olefinisch ungesättigten Kohlenwasserstoffe bzw» Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe sind
hauptsächlich hochmolekulare, im wesentlichen gesättigte Erdöl*»
fraktionen bzw. im wesentlichen-gesättigte Öle fin-Polyir.fcri sate
und die entsprechenden Chlorienrigsprodukta, DIe--von Monoolefinen

und vom jeweiligen Mengenverhältnis dieser Komponenten ab. Das
naoh dem Verfahren der Erfindung erhaltene, die gewünschten öllöslichen komplexen Beter enthaltende Reaktionsgemisoh kann auch,
nicht umgesetzte Komponenten (A.)/uJ) bew.(C) enthalten· Wenn diese
Auegangeverbindungen, im Reaktionsgemisch löslich sind» können sie ohne nachteilige Wirkung auf dessen Verwendbarkeit darin
belassen werden. Gegebenenfalls werden nicht umgesetzte flüchtige öllösliche Verbindungen nach herkömmlichen Verfahren/ wie

Silikonen, wie die Polyalkyl-, Polyaryl-, Polyalkoxy- oder PoIyaryloxysiloxan~
und -silikatöle, z*B. Tetraäthyleilikat, Tetraieopropylsilikat,
Tetra-2~äthylhexylsilikat, Tetra-C4~niethyl-2-tetraäthyl)-silikat,
Tetra-p-tert^-butylphenylsilikat, Hexyl-(4-methyl-2-pfentöjiy)...(iifiiioxan,
die Po Iy methyl siloxane oder die
Polymethylphenylailoxant!, sind eine weitere Klasse synthetischer
Schmiermittel ο V/eite-re synthetische Schmieröle sind die flüssigen
Leter von Phosphorsäuren, wie! Trikresylphosphat, Trioctylphosphat
und Dekanphosphonsaurediäthylester, sowie polymerisierte
Tetrahydrofurane.
Die erfindunfescemäüs hergestellten öllöslichen Ester können den
Schmiermitteln allein zugesetzt werden, im allgemeinen werden ei«
jedooh gemeinsam mit anderen herkömmlichen Sohmierölzusätzen d'er
in den vorgenannten Patentschrifttin beschriebenen Art verwendet.

Die Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung. Teil- und Prosentangaben
beziehen sich auf dae Gewicht, wenn nichts ander·· angegeben ist.
Es wird ein Gemisch aus 794 Teilen eines Polyieobutenylberneteinsäureanhydrids mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewloht τοη etwa
1100 bis 1130, das durch Chlorierung eines Polyisobuten· mit
einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von etwa 1000 bis 1C5C und
"teung des erhaltenen Chlorpolyisobutens alt Maleinsäureanhydrid genäse dem allgemeinen in der USA-Patentsohrlft
3 172 892 beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt wurde, sowie 96 Teilen Trlmethylolpiopan (TMP)9 96 Teilen Pentaerythrit und
430 Teilen Xylol 7 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 170 bis 22O0C
erhitzt. Anschlieseend wird das Waseer in Jfovat eines aseotrop
mit Xylol siedenden Gemisches abdestilliert und danaoh wird dae Reaktionsgemisoh durch Erhitzen auf 2230C unter einem Druck von
9 Torr von den übrigen flüchtigen Anteilen befreit. Die erhaltene Masse wird mit 630 Teilen Mineralöl als Verdünnungemittel versetzt und filtriert. Das Flltrat ist eine 40 ?&-ige Lösung des
gewünschten Esters in Mineralöl·
Ea wird ein Gemisch aus 923 Teilen eines gemäae Beispiel 1 hergestellten Polyisobutenylbemsteinsäureanhydrids mit einen Durchschnittemolekulargewicht von etwa 113Ö, 1O9»3 Teilen TMP9

als Verdünnungsmittel zugesetzt, und das erhaltene Gemisch wird filtriert. Das Piltrat iöt eine Lösung des gewünscüten Esters
in Mineralöl. .
Ein (JeBiBCh aus 1731 Seilen des gemäss Beispiel 1 hergestellten
Polyieobutanylbernsfcüißsä-areftiiii^dride, 206 Teilen TMP, 105 Teilen Pentmerythrit, 300 Teilen Xylol und 1342 Teilen Mineralöl
als Verdünnungsmittel wird.. 8 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 192 biβ 2280C erhitzt. Das hei der Umsetzung abgespaltene 'Wasser
wird anechlieesend in Form eines azeotrop mit Xylol siedenden
Gemisches abdestilliert. Sie dabei erlialtene Masse'wird innerhalb
1 Stunde bei 195°C/ 10 bis 20 Torr von den Übrigen flüchtigen Anteilen befreit und danach filtriert. Das Piltrat ist eine
lösung dee gewünsohten Esters in Mineralöl*
Es wird ein ö!löslicher Ester in der nacnstelienden Weise hergestellt· 925 Teile des gemäss Beispiel 1 hergestellten PolyisöbutenylbernBteinBuureanhydride,
99,2 Teile Trimethyloläthan
(TMR), 43t9 Te41e Pentaerythrit und 225 Teile Xylol werden 5
Stunden auf Temperaturen von etwa 180 bia 1900C erhitzt. Anschlieeeenä
wird das Eeaktionsgemisch mit 690 Teilen Mineralöl
als Verdünnungsmittel versetzt und danach bei 2OC0C/10 Torr von
flüchtigen Anteilen befreit«. Nach Filtration erhält man eine Lösung des gewünschten Esters in Mineralöl.
Ss wird ein Gemisch aus 808 Teilen eines gemäss Beispiel 1 laex

von Beispiel 2, 206 'feilen TMP, 3OG Teilen Xylol, und 700 Teilen Mineralöl 10 stunden auf Temperaturen von 190
bis 210 C erhitzte Nach Abdestillation dee Wassers in Form eines
azeotrop mit xylol siedenden Gemisches wird das Heaktionsgefflieoh
mit 206 Teilen Pentaerythrit versetzt und anschließend 20 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 180 bis 22O0C erhitzt· Danach
wird das Gemisch filtriert, und das Filtrat wird innerhalb von 90 Minuten bei 156 bis 2ü5°c/18 Torr von flüchtigen Anteilen

(b) Ein Gemisch aus jeweils 0,5 Mol Pentaerythrit und 1 Mol des
^emäss'(*) hergestellten Piltrats pro Mol Trimethylolpropan wird
nach dem allgemeinen Verfahren von Beispiel 1 zur Umeeteung gebracht,
wobei jeuoch eine gewisse Menge p-Toluolsulfonsäure als
Veresterungskatalysator verwendet wird.
Ein Gemisch aus 55 Teilen Trismethylolaminomethan /H2N-C-(CH2OH)3/ und 62 Teilen Pentaerythrit, dae auf 2000C erhitzt
wurde, wird innerhalb von 90 Minuten mit 1039 Teilen eines gemäss dem allgemeinen Verfahren von Beispiel 1 hergestellten
Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrids versetzt, wobei die Reaktionstemperatur
bei 200 bis 210 °c gehalten und In das Gemisch zur Austreibung des Wassers Stickstoff eingeleitet wird. Anschliessend
wird das Reaktionsgemisch 5 Stunden unter weiterem Einleiten von Stickstoff auf Temperaturen von 200 bis 215°C erhitzt.
Danach werden innerhalb 1 Stunde 931 Teile eines niedrigviskosen Mineralöls zugesetzt, und die erhaltene Masse wird bis
auf 150 bis 1600C abgekühlt und filtriert. Das Filtrat ist eine
Lösung einea Esters, die etwa 45 $>
Mineralöl enthält.
Es werden 25 Teile Glycerin mit 78 Teilen Pentaerythrit bei Raumtemperatur
vermischt und das erhaltene Gemisch wird bis zur Lösung des Pentaerythrits auf etwa 162°C erhitzt. Anschliessend t
werden in das Alkoholgemisch innerhalb von 30 Minuten bei etwa 1600C unter Einleiten von Stickstoff 200 Teile des Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrida
von Beispiel 11 eingetragen» Das Gemisch wird danach auf Temperaturen von etwa 200 bis 21O°C erhitzt
und unter weiterem Einleiten von Stickstoff innerhalb von

270 Minuten mit weiteren 366 Teilen dee Anhydride versetzt. Anechlieeeend werden 1020 Teile eines niedrig-viskosen Mineralöls
sugeeetst,, und die erhaltene Hasse wird 7 stunden unter einleiten von Stickstoff auf Temperaturen von 210 bis 24O0G erhitzt und
dann bei Temperaturen von 130 bis 160°C filtriert· Das FiItrat
ist eine 45 Jt-ige Lösung eines Esters in Mineralöl.
Beter weisen im Vergleich zu aus denselben Säuren (A) mit ledigarten
lieh elneF der Alkohol/ (B) oder (C) hergestellten Estern verbesserte Diepersant-Eigenschaften auf« Diese verbesserte Dieperaant-Wirkung wird durch die nachstehenden Bewertungszahlen
für erfindungegemäes hergestellte öllöeliche Ester sowie für
ähnliche Beter veranschaulicht, die aus mehrwertigen Alkoholen
entsprechend der Komponente (B) oder der Komponente (C) hergestellt: wurden.
Die B'iiiertmngif hlen sind dl« Ergebnisse der Prüfung der vorgenannten Beter nach einem Teat, der die Bispersant-Eigenachaften
betrifft. Bine Bewertungszahl von 100 bedeutet, dass der betreffende Beter mit einem ale Vergleichsmaterial dienenden, im
Handel erhältlichen aschefreien Piapersent gleichwertig ist.
