Aschefreie Dispersants und Detergents, die sich als Zusätze für Schmiermittel sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffe
eignen, sind bekannt. Viele dieser Zusätze, wie die in der GB-PS 10 31 !40 und in den US-Patentschriften
72 892, 32 19 666, 32 72 746, 33 41 542 oder 33 81 022 to
beschriebenen, sind Umsetzungsprodukte relativ hochmolekularer Carbonsäuren und ihrer reaktionsfähigen
Derivate mit Alkoholen oder Aminen. Bei der Verwendung in Schmiermitteln, insbesondere Schmiermitteln
für das Kurbelgehäuse von Verbrennungsmoto- r>5
ren, verringern oder verhindern die vorgenannten Dispersants oder Detergents ζ. B. die Schlammbildung
oder neutralisieren saure Verunreinigungen. Beim Einsatz in Kraft- und Brennstoffen fördern sie /.. B. die
Reinhaltung des Motors oder verringern die Bildung w) von Ablagerungen im Auspufl'system, wie in den
I.S-Patentschriften 33 46 354 und 33 47 645 beschrieben
ist.
Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung öllöslicher Ester zur Verfugung zu stellen, br>
die sich als Zusätze in Schmiermitteln sowie in Kraft- und Brennstoffen eignen. Diese Aufgabe wird durch die
Erfindung gelöst.
Die Erfindung betrifft somit die in den Patentansprüchen gekennzeichneten Gegenstände.
Die unter (A) im Anspruch 1 genannten Polycarbonsäuren und ihre reaktionsfähigen Derivate sind bekannt
und sind z.B. in den US-Patentschriften 3172 892, 32 19 666, 32 72 746, 33 41 542 und 33 81 022 beschrieben.
Ein besonders wichtiges Kennzeichen des Substiluenten der Carbonsäuren und ihrer reaktionsfähigen
Derivate (A) ist seine Größe. Der Substituent muß mindestens 50 aliphatische C-Atome aufweisen. Diese
untere Grenze beruht sowohl auf dem Gesichtspunkt der Öllöslichkeit als auch auf jenem der Wirksamkeit
der nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung hergestellten Ester als Zusätze in Schmiermitteln sowie Kraft- und
Brennstoffen. Ein weiterer wichtiger Gesichtspunkt bei der Wahl der Komponente (A) besteht darin, daß der
Substituent im wesentlichen gesättigt sein soll, d. h., mindestens etwa 80%, vorzugsweise etwa 95% der
Gesamtzahl der C-C-Bindungen soll gesättigt sein. Besonders bevorzugt werden Carbonsäuren oder
entsprechende Derivate, deren Substituenten mindestens etwa 98% gesättigte Bindungen aufweisen. Ein
größeres Ausmaß an Ungesättigtheit macht die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Ester empfindlicher
gegenüber Oxydations-, Abbau- und Polymerisationsreaktionen, wodurch ihre Wirksamkeit als Zusätze in
Schmiermitteln, sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffen herabgesetzt wird.
Die Polycarbonsäuren und ihre reaktionsfähigen Derivate (A) sollen ferner im wesentlichen frei von
öllöslich machenden Verzweigungen sein, d. h. von Resten mit mehr als etwa 6 aliphatischen C-Atomen.
Obwohl einige solche Verzweigungen vorhanden sein dürfen, soll ihr Anteil vorzugsweise höchstens einen
solchen Rest auf je 25 aliphatische C-Atome der Hauptkohlenwasserstoffkette der Säuren oder ihrer
Derivate (A) betragen. Die Polycarbonsäuren und ihre Derivate (A) können auch Halogenatome, z. B. Chloroder
Bromdtome, aufweisen. Der Anteil der Halogenatome darf 10 Gew.-% des Kohlenwasserstoffanteils
der Carbonsäuren oder ihrer Derivate (A) (d. h. ohne Berücksichtigung der Carboxylgruppen bzw. ihrer
funktionellen Gruppen) nicht überschreiten.
Wie in den vorgenannten Patentschriften beschrieben ist, gibt es mehrere Verfahren zur Herstellung der
Polycarbonsäuren und ihrer reaktionsfähigen Derivate (A). Diese Verfahren bestehen im allgemeinen in der
Umsetzung (1) einer olefinisch ungesättigten niederen Carbonsäure, ihres Halogenids oder Anhydrids mit (2)
entweder einem olefinisch ungesättigten Kohlenwasserstoff oder einem Chlorkohlenwasserstoff, die jeweils
mindestens etwa 50 aliphatische C-Atome enthalten, bei Temperaturen von etwa 100 bis etwa 3000C. Der
Chlorkohlenwasserstoff oder der olefinisch ungesättigte Kohlenwasserstoff kann unter Berücksichtigung der
vorgenannten und in den vorstehend angeführten Patentschriften erläuterten allgemeinen Begrenzungen
Halogenatome öllöslich machende Verzweigungen enthalten bzw. ungesättigt sein.
Zur Herstellung der Polycarbonsäuren und ihrer reaktionsfähigen Derivate (A) nach einem der beiden
vorgenannten Verfahren verwendet man eine niedere Carbonsäure der allgemeinen Formel I

Die Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe und olefinisch ungesättigten Kohlenwasserstoffe, die zur Herstellung der
Polycarbonsäuren und ihrer Derivate (A) verwendet werden, können Molekulargewichte von etwa 700 bis
etwa 100 000 oder noch höher aufweisen. Bevorzugt werden die vorgenannten Polyolefine und chlorierten
-, Polyolefine mit einem Duichschnittsmolekulargewicht von etwa 700 bis etwa 5000. Bei Verwendung von
Polycarbonsäuren bzw. ihrer Derivate (A) mit einem Molekulargewicht von über etwa 10 000 v/irken

Die zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäß eingesetzten Polycarbonsäuren und ihrer Derivate (A) verwendeten
olefinisch ungesättigten Kohlenwasserstoffe bzw. Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe sind hauptsächlich hochmolekulare,
im wesentlichen gesättigte Erdölfraktionen bzw. im wesentlichen gesättigte Olefin-Polymerisate und die

vorgenannten Olefin-Polymerisate, anschließende Überführung des polyhalogenierten Polymerisats in ein
Polynitril und darauf folgende hydrolytische Spaltung hergestellt werden. Sie können ferner durch Oxydation
eines hochmolekularen mehrwertigen Alkohols mit Kaliumpermanganat, Salpetersäure oder mit einem
ähnlichen Oxydationsmittel hergestellt werden. Ein weiteres Verfahren zur Herstellung der Polycarbonsäuren
(A) besteht darin, daß man ein Olefin oder einen durch polare Reste substituierten Kohlenwasserstoff,
wie Chlorpolyisobuten, mit einer ungesättigten Polycarbonsäure, wie Penten-2-1,3,5-tricarbonsäure, die durch
Dehydratisierung von Citronensäure hergestellt wird, zur Einsetzung bringt.
Polycarbonsäuren und ihre Derivate (A) können auch ο gemäß US-Patentschrift 33 40 281 durch Umsetzung
z. B. von chlorierten Polycarbonsäuren, ihren Anhydriden oder Halogeniden mit olefinisch ungesättigten
Kohlenwasserstoffen, wie die vorgenannten Polyolefine oder substituierten Polyolefine, hergestellt werden.
4-, Aus den Polycarbonsäuren lassen sich die Säureanhydride leicht durch Erhitzen dieser Säuren auf Temperaturen
von mindestens etwa 70° C, vorzugsweise in Gegenwart eines Dehydratisationsmittels, wie Essigsäureanhydrid,
herstellen. Cyclische Anhydride werden im -,o allgemeinen aus Polycarbonsäuren erhalten, deren
Carboxylgruppen durch höchstens 3 C-Atome voneinander getrennt sind, wie substituierte Bernstein- oder
Glutarsäure, während lineare Anhydride aus Polycarbonsäuren gewonnen werden, deren Carboxylgruppen
ν, durch mindestens 4 C-Atome voneinander getrennt
sind.
Die Säurehalogenide können auf herkömmliche Weise durch Umsetzung der Polycarbonsäuren oder
ihrer Anhydride mil einem Halogenierungsmittel, wie ι Phosphortribromid, Phosphorpentachlorid oder Thionylchlorid,
hergestellt werden.
Als Komponente (B) werden im Verfahren der Erfindung die verschiedensten 2- oder 3wertigen
aliphatischen Alkohole eingesetzt. Beirniele für solche -, Alkohole sind Alky'engh'kole, wie Äthylen-, Propylen-,
Trimethylen- oder Butylenglykol, und Polyglykolc, wie Diäthylen-, Triäthylcn-, Tetraäthylen-, Dipiopylen-,
Tripropyien-, Dibutylen- oder Tributylenglykol, sowie

andere Alkylenglykclc und Polyalkylcnglykolc, deren
Alkylenresle 2 bis 8, vorzugsweise 2 bis 4 C-Atome
aufweisen. Weitere Beispiele für orfindungsgemäll
geeignete 2- oder 3werlige Alkohole sind Glycerin, 3-Chlorpropandiol-1,2, 1,2-Bulandiol, 2,3-Hexandiol, Pi- -,
nakol oder l,4-Dihydroxy-2-nitrobutan, sowie Aminoalkohole,
wie Di-(2-hydroxyäthyl)-amin, Tri-(2-hydroxypropy!)-amin oder N,N'-Di-(hydroxyälhyl)-älhylcndiamin.
Die im Verfahren der Erfindung als Komponente (B) m bevorzugt eingesetzten 2- oder 3werligen aliphatischen
Alkohole sind die 2- oder 3wertigen niederen Alkanolc. d. h. die 2- oder 3wertigen Alkanole mit bis zu 7
C-Atomen. Beispiele für diese niederen Alkanole sind die vorgenannten, bis 7-C-Aiome im Alkylenrest |-,
aufweisenden Aikylenglykole, Glycerin, β Hydroxymcthy!-2-methyl-1,3-propandioi
(Trimethyloläthan), 2-Hydroxymethyl-2-äthyl-1,3-propandiol (Trimethylolpropan), 1,2,4-Butantriol, 1,2,6-Hexantriol, 1,2,3-Pentantriol.
1,2,3-Hexantriol, 1,2,4-Hexantriol, 1,2,5-Hexantriol, 2,3,4-Hexantriol
sowie Gemische aus zwei oder mehreren der vorgenannten Alkohole. Als Komponente (B) besonders
geeignete Alkohole sind Trimethyloläthan (TMÄ), Trimethylolpropan (TMP) und Gemische dieser beiden
Alkohole. 2Ί
Als Komponente (C) können im Verfahren der Erfindung die verschiedensten 4- und höherwerligen
aliphatischen Alkohole eingesetzt werden. Beispiele für als Komponente (C) geeignete Alkohole sind Aminoalkohole,
wie N,N,N',N',-Tetrakis-(2-oxypropyl)-äthylendiamin oder N,N,N',N'-Tetrakis-(2-oxyäthyl)-äthylcndiamin,
Dipentaerythrit und Zucker, wie Glucose oder Arabinose. Bevorzugt werden jedoch die niederen
Alkanole mit mindestens 4 Hydroxylgruppen. Spezielle Beispiele für diese minriestens 4wertigen Alkanole sind y-,
Pentaerythrit, Erythrit, Threit, Ribit, Xylit, Arabit, Sorbit und Mannit sowie Gemische aus zwei oder mehreren
der vorgenannten Alkohole. Als Komponente (C) besonders bevorzugt werden Pentaerythrit, Mannit,
Sorbit und entsprechende Gemische.
Zur Durchführung des Verfahren der Erfindung werden die Komponenten (A), (B) und (C) unter den
herkömmlich bei Veresterungsreaktionen angewendeten Bedingungen umgesetzt. Die Komponenten werden
gleichzeitig miteinander vermischt und zur Umsetzung 4-,
gebracht. Pro Mol der Komponente (C) wird vorzugsweise mindestens etwa 1 Mol der Komponente (B)
eingesetzt. Aus stöchiometrischen Gründen werden pro Mol der Komponente (A) vorzugsweise höchstens
zusammen 3 Mol, insbesondere 0,75 bis 2,0 Mol der V]
Komponenten (B) und (C) eingesetzt, wobei der Anteil an B den Anteil an C übersteigt.
Die Veresterung wird gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart eines inerten organischen Verdünnungsmittels durchgeführt.
Durch die Gegenwart eines Verdünnungsmittels können die Temperatureinstellung und die Vermischung
der Reaktionskomponenten erleichtert werden. Bei Verwendung eines Verdünnungsmittels, das mit Wasser
ein aseotrop siedendes Gemisch bildet, unterstützt diese die Entfernung des Wassers aus dem Reaktionsgemisch, e,»
Beispiele für im Verfahren der Erfindung einsetzbarc Verdünnungsmittel sind die aliphatischen, cycloaliphalischen
und aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffe sowie die entsprechenden Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe, wie Benzol,
Toluol, Xylol, Chlorbenzol, Hexan, Heptan, Cyclohcxan, b5
Mineralöl und entsprechende Gemische. Äther und Ketone können ebenfalls als Verdünnungsmittel eingcmM/i
werden. Wenn die als Komponenten (B) und (C) eingesetzten Alkohole bei der Reakiionsteniperatur
flüssig sind, kann natürlich auch ein Überschuß des mehrwertigen Alkohols als Verdünnungsmittel dienen.
Die für das Verfahren geeigneten Vcreslcrungsbedingungen entsprechen den herkömmlich für die Esterhcrstellung
angewendeten Bedingungen. Die Reaktionskomponenten sollen im allgemeinen auf Temperaturen
von etwa 100 bis 300" C, vorzugsweise von etwa 150 bis
etwa 2500C, erhitzt werden. Zur Beschleunigung der Veresterungsreaktion können herkömmliche Veresterungskatalysatoren
eingesetzt werden. Spezielle Beispiele für dazu geeignete Katalysatoren sind Schwefelsäure,
Pyridinhydrochlorid, Chlorwasserstoffsäure, Benzolsulfonsäure, p-Toluolsulfonsäure und Phosphorsäure.
Wenn im Verfahren der Erfindung ein Katalysator verwendet wird, werden Anteile von etwa 0,01 bis etwa
5 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Reaktionsgemisch, eingesetzt.
Anstelle einer Polycarbonsäure kann im Verfahren der Erfindung als Komponente (A) auch deren
Säureanhydrid oder Säurehalogenid verwendet werden. Die Carbonsäure und insbesondere das Säureanhydrid
wird bevorzugt eingesetzt. Natürlich kann auch ein niederer Alkylester als Komponente (A) verwendet
werden, wobei eine Umesterung erfolgt.
Es sind jedoch bereits Verfahren zur Herstellung von Carbonsäureestern mehrwertiger Alkohole bekannt. In
der US-Patentschrift 33 81022 sind beispielsweise Reaktionsbedingungen beschrieben, die bei der Estcrherstellung
nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung angewendet werden können.
Die nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung hergestellten Produkte sind komplexe Estergemische. Die genaue
Zusammensetzung dieser Estergemische hängt von den jeweils eingesetzten Reaktionskomponenten und vom
jeweiligen Mengenverhältnis dieser Komponenten ab. Das nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung erhaltene, die
gewünschten öllöslichen komplexen Ester enthaltende Reaküonsgemisch kann auch nicht umgesetzte Komponenten
(A) und/oder (B) bzw. (C) enthalten. Wenn diese Ausgangsverbindungen im Reaktionsgemisch löslich
sind, können sie ohne nachteilige Wirkung auf dessen Verwendbarkeit darin belassen werden. Gegebenenfalls
werden nicht umgesetzte flüchtige öllösliche Verbindungen nach herkömmlichen Verfahren, wie durch
Destillation, entfernt. Wenn das Reaktionsgemisch unlösliche Verbindungen enthält, sollen diese vor der
Verwendung der Ester als Zusätze in Schmiermitteln, sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffen, nach herkömmlichen
Verfahren, wie durch Filtration, Zentrifugieren oder Dekantieren, entfernt werden.
Wenn das Reaktionsgemisch nicht umgesetzte Anteile der Komponente (A) enthält, ist es manchmal
zweckmäßig, das Gemisch zur Neutralisation z. B. der nicht umgesetzten Säure oder des nicht umgesetzten
Anhydrids mit einem Amin, wie Äthylendiamin, Diäthylentriamin, Triäthylcntetramin, Tetraäthylenpentamin,
Pentaäthylcnhexamin, Propylendiamin, Trimethylendiamin,
Aminoäthylpiperazin oder Pipcrazin, oder einer basischen Mctallverbindung, wie Bariumhydroxyd,
Bariumoxyd, Calciumhydroxyd, Calciumoxyd, Magnesiumoxyd oder Calciummethylat, nachzubehandeln.
Es wurde ferner lcstgcsteiit, daß du: Eigenschaften
der erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Ester als Dispersants verbessert werden können, wenn sie mit Epoxyden
naehbehandclt weiden. Spezielle Beispiele für dazu geeignete Epoxydc sind Äthylenoxyd. Propylcnoxyd.
Buiylcnoxyd und F.pichlorhydrin.
Die Erfindung betrifft ferner die Verwendung nach
dem vorgenannten Verfahren hergeslellten öllöslichen
L:.stcr als Zusätze in Schmiermitteln sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffen. ->
Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Ester wirken in Schmiermitteln sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffen, denen
sie als Zusätze einverleibt wurden, in derselben Weise als aschefreie Dispersants wie die in den vorgenannten
Patentschriften beschriebenen Dispersant-Zusätze. Bei to ihrer Verwendung als Zusätze in Schmierölen kann man
sie in Anteilen von etwa 0,01 bis etwa 30 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Schmiermittel, einsetzen. Vorzugsweise
werden in diesem Falle etwa 0,5 bis etwa 10 Gew.-% verwendet. Unter sehr ungünstigen Bedingungen, wie r>
beim Betrieb bestimmter Dieselmotoren, können diese Anteile bis etwa 30% des Schmiermittelgewichts
erreichen. Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Ester eignen sich insbesondere als Dispersants für Schmieröle,
die im Kurbelgehäuse verschiedener Verbrennungsmotorcn eingesetzt werden.
Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Ester können mit guter Wirkung in den verschiedensten Schmiermitteln
verwendet werdenderen Basiskomponente verschiedene Öle mit einer Viskosität ist, die ihre Verwendung als
Schmieröle gestattet, wie natürliche oder synthetische Öle oder ein Gemisch mischbarer oder gemeinsam
löslicher natürlicher und/oder synthetischer Öle.
Der Ausdruck »mischbar« bedeutet, daß die Öle zur Bildung eines Basisöls gegenseitig genügend löslich sind, jo
während der Ausdruck »gemeinsam löslich« bedeutet, daß ein geeignetes herkömmliches Lösungsmittel, wie
ein anderes Schmieröl, die Verwendung von 2 oder mehreren Schmierölen im Gemisch gestattet, wo diese
allein wegen Lösiichkeitssehwierigkeiten nicht miteinander verträglich sein würden. Nachstehend sind
Beispiele für natürliche und synthetische Öle angeführt.
Die vorgenannten Schmiermittel sind hauptsächlich Schmieröle für Otto- und Dieselmotoren, wie Lastwagen-
und sonstige Kraftfahrzeugmotoren, Flugzeugkolbenmotoren sowie Schiffs- und Eisenbahndieselmotoren.
Aber auch z. B. Schmiermittel für automatische Getriebe, Achsenschmiermittel, Zahnradgetriebeöle,
Metallbearbeitungsschmiermittel oder Hydrauliköle können durch Einverleibung der erfindungsgemäß
hergestellten Ester als Zusätze verbessert werden. Man kann die Schmiermittel auch nach herkömmlichen
Verfahren zu Fetten verdicken bzw. umwandeln und diesen die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Ester einverleiben.
Natürlich vorkommende Öle sind sowohl tierische und pflanzliche Öle, wie Rizinusöl und Specköl, als auch
lösungsmittelraffiniertp oder säureraffinierte Mineralschmieröle des Paraffin-, Naphthen- oder gemischtbasischen
Typs. Aus Kohle oder ölschiefer gewonnene Öle mit einer Viskosität, die ihre Verwendung als Schmiermittel
gestattet, sind ebenfalls als Basisöle geeignet. Beispiele für synthetische Schmieröle sind Öle auf der
Grundlage von gegebenenfalls halogensubstituierten Kohlenwasserstoffen, wie Olefin-Homo- und -Copo- t,o
lymerisatc, z. B. Polybutene, Polypropylen, Propylen-Isobuten-Copolymerisate
oder chlorierte Polybutene, Alkylbenzole, z. B. Dodccylbenzole, Tetradecylbenzol,
Dinonylbenzolc oder Di-(2-Äthylhcxyl)-bcnzole, und Polyphenyle, wie Diphenyle oder Tcrphenylc. Alkylen- bri
oxyd-Homo und -Copolymerisate und ihre Derivate, deren endständige Hydroxylgruppen /.. B. durch Veresterung
oder Veretherung modifiziert wurden, sind eine weitere Klasse bekannter synthetischer Schmieröle.
Beispiele dafür sind die durch Polymerisation von Äthylen- oder Propylenoxid hergestellten Öle, die
Alkyl- und Arylether dieser Polyoxyalkylen-Polymerisate, wie Polyisopropylenglykolmethyläther mit einem
Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von 1000, Polyäthylenglykoldiphenyläther
mit einem Molekulargewicht von 500 bis 1000 oder Polypropylenglykoldiäthyläther
mit einem Molekulargewicht von 1000 bis ISOO und ihre
Ester mit Mono- und Polycarbonsäuren, wie die Essigsäureester, Gemische von Estern mit Cj_»-Fettsäuren
oder der Diester einer Cu-Oxocarbonsäure des Tetraäthylenglykols. Eine weitere Klasse synthetischer
Schmieröle sind die Ester von Dicarbonsäuren, wie der Benzoldicarbonsäuren, der Bernstein-, Malein-, Azelain-.
Kork-, Sebacin-, Fumar-, Adipin- und der dimeren Linolsäure mit Alkoholen, wie Butanol, Hexanol,
Laurinalkohol, 2-Äthylhexanol oder Pentaerythrit. Spezielle
Beispiele für diese Ester sind Adipinsäuredibutyl-, Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-, Fumarsäure-di-n-hexyl-,
Sebacinsäuredioctyl-, Azelainsäurediisooctyl-, Azelainsäurediisodecyl-,
Phthalsäuredioctyl-, Phthalsäuredidecyl- und Sebacinsäuredieikosylester, sowie der 2-Äthylhexyldiester
der dimeren Linolsäure und der durch Umsetzung von 1 Mol Sebacinsäure mit 2 Mol
Tetraäthylenglykol und 2 Mol 2-Äthylcapronsäure hergestellte Ester, öle auf der Grundlage von Silikonen,
wie die Polyalkyl-, Polyaryl-, Polyalkoxy- oder Polyaryloxysiloxan- und -silikatöle, z. B. Tetraäthylsilikat,
Tetraisopropylsilikat, Tetra-2-äthylhexylsilikat, Tetra-(4-methyl-2-tetraäthyl)-silikat,
Tetra-p-tert.-butylphenylsilikat, Hexyl-(4-methyl-2-pentoxy)-disiloxan, die Polymethylsiloxane
oder die Polymethylphenylsiloxane, sind eine weitere Klasse synthetischer Schmiermittel.
Weitere synthetische Schmieröle sind die flüssigen Ester von Phosphorsäuren, wie Trikresylphosphat, Trioctylphosphat
und Dekanphosphonsäurediäthylester, sowie polymerisierte Tetrahydrofurane.
Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten öllöslichen Ester können den Schmiermitteln allein zugesetzt werden, im
allgemeinen werden sie jedoch gemeinsam mit anderen herkömmlichen Schmierölzusätzen der in den vorgenannten
Patentschriften beschriebenen Art verwendet. Beispiele für herkömmliche Schmierölzusätze sind
Hochdruckzusätze, metallhaltige Detergents, wie normale und überbasische öllösliche ErdalkaliphenoSate
und -erdösulfonate, Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer, Oxydationsinhibitoren, Schauminhibitoren, aschefreie Dispersants
und Korrosionsinhibitoren. In den vorgenannten Patentschriften sind typische Beispiele für solche
herkömmliche Zusätze beschrieben.
In Kraft- und Brennstoffen erleichtern die erfindungs
gemäß hergestellten Ester infolge ihrer Wirkung al; Dispersants die Reinhaltung des Motors durch Verrin
gerung oder Verhinderung schädlicher Abscheidunger im Kraftstoffsystem, im Motor und im Auspuffsysterr
Sie sind in erster Linie zur Verwendung in untc Normalbedingungen flüssigen Erdöldestillat-Kraft- um
-Brennstoffen vorgesehen, d. h. jenen Erdöldestillater die im für Kraftstoffe, wie Benzine, Heizöl, Dicselkrafl
stoffe, Fliegerbenz'inc oder Kerosin, charakteristische
Bereich sieden. Bei der Verwendung in Kraft- un Brennstoffen werden die Ester gewöhnlich in niedrige
ren Konzentrationen als in Schmiermitteln cingcsct/. z.B. in Anteilen von etwa 0,0001 bis etwa 2 Gew.-"/
vorzugsweise von etwa 0,001 bis etwa 0,5 Gcw.-%. Aue
die Kraft- und Brennstoffe können andere hcrkömml ehe Zusätze enthalten. Beispiele dnfür sind Bleircinigt

Enteisungsmittel, Mittel gegen die Verstopfung der Ölfilter, andere aschefreie Dispersants und Emulsionsbrecher. In den US-Patentschriften 32 23 495 und
33 07 928 sind Beispiele für Kraftstoff- bzw. Brennstoffzusätze beschrieben, die gemeinsam mit den erfindungsgemäß
hergestellten Estern verwendet werden können. Auch aschefreie Dispersants der in den vorgenannten
Patentschriften beschriebenen Art sind dazu geeignet.
Die Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung. Teil- und Prozentangaben beziehen sich auf das Gewicht, wenn
nichts anderes angegeben ist.
Es wird ein Gemisch aus 794 Teilen eines Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäureanhydrids
mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von etwa 1100 bis 1150, das durch Chlorierung eines Polyisobutene mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht
von etwa 1000 bis 1050 und Umsetzung des erhaltenen Chlorpolyisobutens mit Maleinsäureanhydrid gemäß dem allgemeinen in der
US-Patentschrift 31 72 892 beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt wurde, sowie 96 Teilen Trimethylolpropan
(TMP), 96 Teilen Pentaerythrit und 450 Teilen Xylol 7 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 170 bis 2200C erhitzt.
Anschließend wird das Wasser in Form eines azeotrop mit Xylol siedenden Gemisches abdestilliert und danach
wird das Reaktionsgemisch durch Erhitzen auf 225° C unter einem Druck von 9 Torr von den übrigen
flüchtigen Anteilen befreit. Die erhaltene Masse wird mit 650 Teilen Mineralöl als Verdünnungsmittel versetzt
und filtriert. Das Filtrai ist eine 40%ige Lösung des
gewünschten Esters in Mineralöl.
Es wird ein Gemisch aus 925 Teilen eines gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellten Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäurcanhydrids
mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von etwa 1150, 109,5 Teilen TMP, 43,9 Teilen
Pentaerythrit und 225 Teilen Xylol 9 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 190 bis 2100C erhitzt. Anschließend
wird das Reaktionsgemisch innerhalb von 2 Stunden bei 180°C/10 Torr von flüchtigen Anteilen befreit. Dancch
werden 706 Teile Mineralöl als Verdünnungsmittel zugesetzt, und das erhaltene Gemisch wird filtriert. Das
Filtrat ist eine Lösung des gewünschten Esters in Mineralöl.
Ein Gemisch aus 1731 Teilen des gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellten Polyisobutcnylbemstcinsäureanhydrids,
206 Teilen TMP, 103 Teilen Pentaerythrit, 300 Teilen Xylol und 1342 Teilen Mineralöl als Verdünnungsmittel
wird 8 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 192 bis 228°C erhitzt. Das bei der Umsetzung abgespaltene Wasser
wird anschließend in Form eines azeotrop mit Xylol siedenden Gemisches abdestilliert. Die dabei erhaltene
Masse wird innerhalb I Stunde bei 195°C/10 bis 20 Torr
von den übrigen flüchtigen Anteilen befreit und danach filtriert. Das Filtrat ist eine Lösung des gewünschten
Esters in Mineralöl.
Es wird ein öllöslicher Ester in der nachstehenden Weise hergestellt. 925 Teile des gemäß Beispiel I
hergestellten Polyisobutenylbcrnslcinsäureanhydrids, 99,2 Teile TrimethyloliUhan (TMÄ), 43,9 Teile Pentaerythrit
und 225 Teile Xylol werden 5 Stunden auf Temperaturen von etwa 180 bis 190°C erhitzt.
Anschließend wird das Reaktionsgemisch mit 690Teilen Mineralöl als Verdünnungsmittel versetzt und danach
bei 200°C/10 Torr von flüchtigen Anteilen befreit. Nach
Filtration erhält man eine Lösung des gewünschten Esters in Mineralöl.
Es wird ein Gemisch aus 808 Teilen eines gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellten Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäure-
anhydrids, 59,6 Teilen TMP, 34,7 Teilen TMÄ, 38,4 Teilen Pentaerythrit, 225 Teilen Xylol und 618 Teilen
Mineralöl als Verdünnungsmittel 4 Stunden auf Temperaturen von 190 bis 213° C erhitzt. Das Reaktionsgemisch
wird anschließend bei 193°C/15 Torr von
flüchtigen Anteilen befreit und danach filtriert. Das Filtrat ist eine Lösung des gewünschten Esters in
Mineralöl.
Das allgemeine Verfahren von Beispiel 1 wird wiederholt, es wird jedoch ein Ausgangsgemisch aus (A)
einer Polyisobutenylbernsteinsäure mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von 2700 bis 2800, (B) TMP,
(Ci) Pentaerythrit und (C2) Sorbit verwendet, wobei das
Molverhältnis (A): (B): (C): (C>) etwa 1:1:0,25 : 0,25
beträgt.
Es wird ein Gemisch aus (A) einem Polypropylenjo
bernsteinsäureanhydrid mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von 1000, das durch Umsetzung eines
chlorierten Polypropylens mit einem Durchschniusmolekulargewicht von etwa 900 und einem Chlorgehalt von
4% mit Maleinsäureanhydrid bei etwa 2000C hergestellt r>
wurde, (B) Propylenglykol und (C) Mannit gemäß dem allgemeinen Verfahren von Beispiel 1 zur Umsetzung
gebracht, wobei das Molverhältnis (A):(B):(C) etwa 1 :0,7 :0,3 beträgt. Man erhält einen öllöslichen Ester.
Es wird ein komplexer öllöslicher Ester hergestellt, indem ein Gemisch aus (A) dem Polyisobutenylbernsieinsäureanhydrid
von Beispiel l,(B)Tri-(fi-oxypropyt)-amin
und (C) Pentaerithrit gemäß Beispiel 1 erhitzt wird, wobei das Molverhältnis (A): (B): (C) 1 :0,4 :0,2 beträgt.

auf 2000C erhitzt wurde, wird innerhalb von 90 Minuten
mit 1039 Teilen eines gemäß dem allgemeinen Verfahren von Beispiel 1 hergestellten Polyisobutenyl
bernsteinsäureanhydrids versetzt, wobei die Reaktionstemperatur bei 200 bis 2100C gehalten und in das r,
Gemisch zur Austreibung des Wassers Stickstoff eingeleitet wird. Anschließend wird das Reaktionsgemisch
5 Stunden unter weiterem Einleiten von Stickstoff auf Temperaturen von 200 bis 2150C erhitzt. Danach
werden innerhalb 1 Stunde 931 Teile eines niedrigviskosen Mineralöls zugesetzt, und die erhaltene Masse wird
bis auf 150 bis 1600C abgekühlt und filtriert. Das Filtrat
ist eine Lösung eines Esters, die etwa 45% Mineralöl enthält.
Die nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung hergestellton r,
komplexen Ester weisen im Vergleich zu aus denselten Säuren (A) mit lediglich einer der Alkoholarten (B) oder
(C) hergestellten Estern verbesserte Dispersant-Eigenschaften auf. Diese verbesserte Dispersant-Wirkung
wird durch die nachstehenden Bewertungszahlen für erfindungsgemäß hergestellte öllösliche Ester so vie für
ähnliche Ester veranschaulicht, die aus mehrwertigen Alkoholen entsprechend der Komponente (B) oder der
Komponente (C) hergestellt wurden.
Die Bewertungszahlen sind die Ergebnisse der 2r>
Prüfung der vorgenannten Ester nach einem Test, der die Dispersant-Eigensehaften betrifft. Eine Bewertungszahl von 100 bedeutet, daß der betreffende Ester mit
einem als Vergleichsmaterial dienenden im Handel erhältlichen aschefreien Dispersant gleichwertig ist. jo
Bewertungszahlen über 100 bedeuten eine bessere Dispersant-Wirkung als jene des Vergleichsmaterials.

*) X und Y sind öllösliche Ester, die gemäß dem allgemeinen
Verfahren von Beispiel 1 durch Umsetzung von Polyisobutenylbe
maleinsäureanhydrid mit Trimethylolpropan bzw.
Tnmethyloläthan bei einer Anwendung von Molverhähnissen
von 1 :2 bzw. I : 1 hergestellt wurden und somit den Produkten der GB-PS 10 31 140 entsprechen.
Die nachstehenden Gemische A bis H entsprechen Schmiermitteln sowie Kraft- unü Brennstoffen, denen
die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten komplexen Ester als Zusutze einverleibt wurden. Teil- und Prozentangaben
beziehen sich auf das Gewicht, wenn nichts anderes angegeben ist.
Gemisch A
SAE-10W-30-Min?ralschmieröl, enthaltend 1,5% des Filtrats von Beispiel 1 und 0,06% Phosphor in Form des
Zir.ksalzes einer durch Umsetzung von Phosphorpentasulfid
mit einem Gemisch von 60 Mol-% p-Butylphenol
und 40 Mol-% n-Pentanol hergestellten Dithiophosphorsäure. '
Gemisch B
SAE-20W-30-Mineralschmieröl, enthaltend 3,5% des Filtrats von Beispiel 3, 0,075% Phosphor in Form des
Zinksalzes eines Gemisches aus äquimolaren Anteilen Diisopropyldithic phosphorsäure und Di-n-nonyldithiophosphorsäure
und 2,5% Sulfatasrhe in Form eines überbasischer. Barium-Detergents, das durch Behandeln
eines Gemisches aus Mineralöl, 1 Mol Bariumdidodecylbcnzolsulfonat
und 3 Mol Bariumhydroxyd in Gegenwart einer geringen Menge Wasser und 0,7 Mol Octylphenol als i'romotor mit Kohlendioxyd bei 150°C
hergestellt wurde.
Gemisch C
Synthetisches Esterschmieröl (Azelainsäurediisooctylester), enthaltend 0,6% des Filtrats von Beispiel 6.
Gemisch D
SAE-80-Mineralschmieröl, enthaltend 2% des Filtrais
von Beispiel 4,0,1 % Phosphor als Zink-di-n-hexyldithio-(.ihosphat,
10% chloriertes Paraffinwachs mit einem Chlorgehalt von 40%, 2% Dibutyltetiasulfid, 2%
sulfuriertes Dipenten, 0,2% ölsäureamid, 0,003% eines
Schauminhibitors, 0,02% eines Stockpunktscrniedrigers und 3% Polyisobuten mit einem Durchschnittsmolekuhrgewichi
von 80 000 bis 100 000 als Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer.
Gemisch E
SAE-lOW-30-Mineralschm'eröI, enthaltend 6% des
Filtrats von Beispiel 5, 0,075% Phosphor als Zink-di-noctyldithiophosphat und 5% des Bariumsalzes einer
Säure, die durch Umsetzung von 1000 Teilen eines Polyisobuten mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht
von 60 000 mit 100 Teilen Phosphorpentasulfid bei 2000C und Hydrolyse des Umsetzungsprodukts mit
Wasserdampf bei 1500C hergestellt wurde.
Gemisch F
Benzin, enthaltend 0,005% des Fihrats von Beispiel 2.
Gemisch G
Dieselkraftstoff, enthaltend 0,01% des Filtrats vor Beispiel 6.
Gemisch H
Kerosin, enthaltend 0,025% des Produkts von Bei spiel 8.
Claims (3)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung öllöslicher Ester durch Umsetzung von
A) mindestens einer durch einen Kohlenwasser- r>
Stoffrest mit mindestens 50 aliphatischen Kohlenstoffatomen substituierten aliphatischen
Polycarbonsäure, die gegebenenfalls bis zu 10
Gewichtsprozent Halogenatome, bezogen auf den Kohlenwasserstoffanteil der Polycarbon- ι ο
säuren, enthält, oder deren niederem Alkylester, Säureanhydrid oder Säurehalogenid
mit mehrwertigen Alkoholen, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß man als mehrwertige Alkohole i>
B) mindestens einen 2- oder 3wertigen aliphatischen Alkohol oder Aminoalkohol zusammen
mit
C) mindestens einem 4wertigen oder höherwertigen aliphatischen Alkohol oder Aminoalkohol
einsetzt,
wobei man pro Mol der Komponente (A) insgesamt 0,5 bis 5 Mol der Komponenten (B) und (C) einsetzt,
wobei man die Komponenten (A), (B) und (C) gleichzeitig miteinander zur Umsetzung bringt und 2~>
wobei man gegebenenfalls den so erhaltenen Ester anschließend entweder
a) mit einem Amin oder einer basischen Metallverbindung
oder
b) mit einem Epoxid nachbehandelt.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als Komponente (A) mindestens
eine durch einen aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffrest mit einem Durchschnittsmolekulargewicht von
700 bis 5000 substituierte Bernsteinsäure oder ihren jri
niederen Alkylester, Säureanhydrid oder Säurehalogenid, als Komponente (B) mindestens ein 3wertiges
niederes Alkanol und als Komponente (C) mindestens ein 4-, 5- oder öwertiges niederes Akanol
verwendet.
3. Verwendung der gemäß Anspruch 1 bis 2 hergestellten Verfahrensprodukte als Zusätze in
Schmiermitteln sowie Kraft- und Brennstoffen.
