Abstract

本发明揭示一种碳纳米管绳及其制造方法。该碳纳米管绳包括多个碳纳米管束片段,每个碳纳米管束片段具有大致相等的长度且每个碳纳米管束片段由多个相互平行的碳纳米管束构成,碳纳米管束片段两端通过范德华力相互连接。制造该碳纳米管绳的方法包括以下步骤:提供一平整光滑的基底,将催化剂层沉积于该基底表面,通入碳源气与保护气体的混合气体使碳纳米管阵列从基底上长出,于碳纳米管阵列中选定一包括多个碳纳米管束的碳纳米管束片段,并使用拉伸工具拉伸该碳纳米管束片段,使碳纳米管绳沿拉伸方向形成。

Description

一种碳纳米管绳及其制造方法
【技术领域】
本发明是关于一种碳纳米管绳及其制造方法。
【背景技术】
现有生长碳纳米管的方法(电弧放电法、激光沉积法与化学气相沉积法等)所制造的碳纳米管的长度一般进能达到微米量级,从而限制了理论及实验上对超长碳纳米管的研究。制造超长碳纳米管是一个重点、难点,在理论与应用方面具有重要意义。这里所指的“超长”是指碳纳米管的长度达到十厘米量级。
2002年8月28日公开的一篇专利号为02100684的中国专利(申请人为清华大学,发明人为朱宏伟、徐才录等),提出采用立式浮动催化裂解法制造单壁碳纳米管的方法,所制得的碳纳米管长度为几厘米,最长可达20厘米,直径可与人的头发丝相当。但该制造方法有以下缺陷,即由于受反应器尺寸的限制,催化剂在反应器里的停留时间不能过长,而且碳纳米管的生长温度较高,生长单壁碳纳米管的温度为1000℃左右。
【发明内容】
本发明的目的在于提供一种超长尺寸的碳纳米管绳。
本发明的另一目的在于提供一种在较低温度下制造该碳纳米管绳的方法。
本发明的碳纳米管绳包括多个碳纳米管束片段,每个碳纳米管束片段具有大致相等的长度且每个碳纳米管束片段由多个相互平行的碳纳米管束构成,其中,碳纳米管束片段两端通过范德华力相互连接。
本发明的另一目的是这样实现的,提供一平滑基底,将催化剂沉积于该基底上,将沉积有催化剂的基底在保护气体存在下加热至一特定温度后通入碳源气与保护气体的混合气体,控制该碳源气的流速,使催化剂与环境的温度差在50℃以上,控制该混合气体的流量比,使碳源气的分压低于20%,反应5~30分钟,碳纳米管阵列从基底长出。再从碳纳米管阵列中选定一包括多个碳纳米管束的碳纳米管束片段,使用拉伸工具拉伸该碳纳米管束片段,使碳纳米管绳沿拉伸方向形成。
相对于现有技术,本发明具有如下优点:该方法中制备碳纳米管阵列的温度较低;且碳纳米管阵列的生长高度不需很高,仅需100微米左右,通过拉伸工具拉伸后可以得到几十厘米甚至更长的碳纳米管绳。

【具体实施方式】
该制造碳纳米管绳的方法可分为二个步骤:
1.制造碳纳米管束阵列:
提供一平整光滑的基底,可选用p型或n型硅基底,本实施例中选用p型硅基底,其直径为2inches,厚350微米。在基底上采用电子束蒸发法、热沉积或溅射法等方法形成厚度为几纳米到几百纳米的金属催化剂层,其中金属催化剂可为铁(Fe)、钴(Co)、镍(Ni)或三种物质任意组合的合金之一,优选用铁为催化剂,沉积厚度约为5nm。
而后将沉积有催化剂的基底在空气中退火,退火温度范围为300~400℃,时间约为10h。之后基底被分割成许多矩形小块,每一小块放入一石英舟中,在保护气体存在条件下,在反应炉中加热一段时间使其达到一预定温度,一般为500~700℃,优选为650℃。
再通入30sccm碳源气与300sccm的保护气体(如氩气)5~30分钟,制得高度约100微米的碳纳米管束阵列,如图1所示。
其中碳源气为碳氢化合物,可为乙炔、乙烷等,优选用乙炔,该保护气体为惰性气体或氮气。
为得到可拉制碳纳米管绳的碳纳米管束阵列,在制造碳纳米管束阵列的过程中,必须满足以下三个条件:
(1)基底平整光滑;
(2)碳纳米管阵列的生长速度快;
(3)碳源气的分压要低。
生长碳纳米管束阵列的基底平整光滑,可以使得位于基底表面的碳纳米管生长得更密集,从而形成垂直于基底的碳纳米管束阵列。
碳纳米管阵列的生长速度快与碳源气的分压低可以有效地抑制无定形碳沉积在碳纳米管的表面,从而减小碳纳米管间的范德华力。因为无定形碳的沉积速度正比于碳源气的分压,可以通过调整碳源气与保护气体的流量比控制碳源气的分压。而碳纳米管阵列的生长速度正比于催化剂与反应炉的温度差。可以通过调整碳源气的流速控制催化剂的温度,而反应炉的温度可以直接控制。
在本实施例中,催化剂与反应炉的最低温度差控制为50℃,碳源气的分压要低于20%,最好是低于10%。
2.制造碳纳米管绳:
从碳纳米管阵列中选定一包括多个碳纳米管束的碳纳米管束片段,并使用拉伸工具拉伸该碳纳米管束片段,使碳纳米管绳沿拉伸方向形成。
如图2所示,在拉伸过程中,碳纳米管束片段在拉力的作用下沿拉力方向伸长的同时,碳纳米管束片段两端由于范德华力的作用而相互连接在一起,形成碳纳米管绳。
拉伸所用的力的大小取决于所选碳纳米管束片段的宽度:该宽度越宽,所需要的力越大。由实验数据得出0.1mN的力可以拉出200微米宽的碳纳米管绳,而拉断该碳纳米管绳需要0.5mN的力。在本实施例中高度为100微米的碳纳米管阵列可以拉出长30厘米、宽200微米的碳纳米管绳。
用该方法制造的碳纳米管绳包括多个从碳纳米管阵列长出的碳纳米管束片段,因此每个碳纳米管束片段具有大致相等的长度且每个碳纳米管束片段由多个相互平行的碳纳米管束构成,其中,碳纳米管束片段两端通过范德华力相互连接。

Claims (12)

1. 一种碳纳米管绳,包括:
多个碳纳米管束片段,每个碳纳米管束片段具有大致相等的长度且每个碳纳米管束片段由多个相互平行的碳纳米管束构成;其中,碳纳米管束片段两端通过范德华力相互连接。
2. 如权利要求1所述的碳纳米管绳,其特征在于该碳纳米管束包含多个碳纳米管。
3. 如权利要求1所述的碳纳米管绳,其特征在于该碳纳米管绳长30厘米、宽200微米。
4. 一种制造如权利要求1所述的碳纳米管绳的方法,其包括以下步骤:
(1)提供一基底;
(2)将催化剂沉积于该基底表面;
(3)通入碳源气与保护气体的混合气体使碳纳米管阵列从基底上长出;
(4)于碳纳米管阵列中选定一包括多个碳纳米管束的碳纳米管束片段,并使用拉伸工具拉伸该碳纳米管束片段,使碳纳米管绳沿拉伸方向形成,
其中,该基底为平整光滑的基底,通过控制碳源气的流速将催化剂与环境温度差在50℃以上,碳源气的分压低于20%。
5. 如权利要求4所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于基底为硅基底或具氧化层的硅基底。
6. 如权利要求4所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于催化剂为铁、钴、镍或三种物质任意组合的合金之一。
7. 如权利要求4所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于碳源气的分压通过控制碳源气与保护气体的流量比实现的。
8. 如权利要求7所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于该碳源气分压为低于10%。
9. 如权利要求4所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于在通入碳源气与保护气体的混合气体进行反应前将沉积有催化剂的基底在空气中于300~400℃范围内退火10小时。
10. 如权利要求9所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于退火后,通入混合气体反应之前还包括将基底在保护气体作用下,预加热到500~700℃。
11. 如权利要求10所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于基底的预加热温度为650℃。
12. 如权利要求7所述的制造碳纳米管绳的方法,其特征在于该碳源气为乙炔,该保护气体为惰性气体或氮气。
