Description
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, photopolymerisierbare Massen auf der Basis von kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen aufzuzeigen, die einen Photoinitiator enthalten und die im ultravioletten und sichtbaren Spektralbereich, das heisst bei Wellenlängen von etwa 300 bis 700 |xm, empfindlich sind und die bei Bestrahlung innerhalb dieses Wellenlängenbereiches oder bei der Behandlung mit Elektronenstrahlen innerhalb eines verhältnismässig kurzen Zeitraums ausgehärtet werden können. Diese Aufgabe lässt sich überraschenderweise lösen, wenn man neue komplexe Salze als Photoinitiatoren verwendet.
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind somit photopolymerisierbare Massen auf der Basis von kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen, die einen Photoinitiator enthalten und die dadurch gekennzeichnet sind, dass der Photoinitiator ein aromatisches bzw. heteroaromatisches Jodoniumkomplex-salz der Formel I

ist, in der Ar1 und Ar2 aromatische oder heteroaromatische Reste mit 4 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen, vorzugsweise Phenyl-, Thienyl-, Furanyl- oder Pyrazolylgruppen, bedeuten, Z ein Sau-

Gegebenenfalls enthalten diese Massen noch einen Sensibilisator.
Die erfindungsgemässen photopolymerisierbaren Massen sind im ultravioletten und sichtbaren Spektralbereich empfindlich, sie lassen sich rasch ohne Anwendung von Wärme zu Polymerisaten mit guten physikalischen Eigenschaften aushärten. Beispielsweise ergeben photopolymerisierbare Massen auf der Basis von Epoxyverbindungen Polymere mit hoher Zähigkeit, Abriebsbeständigkeit, guter Haftung an Metall, Glas, Kunststoffen, Holz und anderen Oberflächen und guter Chemikalienbeständigkeit. Die genannten Massen zeichnen sich durch gute Haltbarkeit und thermische Stabilität aus. Infolgedessen können diese Massen auch bei höheren Temperaturen eingesetzt werden. Bevorzugte Gemische von Oxetanen, Vinyläthern oder Lactonen mit Epoxyverbindungen ergeben photopolymerisierbare Massen mit wertvollen Eigenschaften. Durch Variation der Bestandteile und Mengenverhältnisse können diese

Massen den entsprechenden Verwendungszwecken angepasst werden.
Die aromatischen Jodoniumkationen sind stabil und bekannt; vgl. z.B. die US-PSen 3 565 906, 3 712 920,
3 759 989 und 3 763 187 ; F. Beringer et al., Diarylaiodonium Salts IX, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 81,342—51 (1959), und F. Beringer et al., Diaryliodonium Salts XXIII, J. Chem. Soc. 1964, 442-51 ; F. Beringer et al., Iodonium Salts Containing Hetero-cyclic lodine, J. Org. Chem. 30,1141-8 (1965).
Typische Beispiele für die Reste Ar1 und Ar2 sind aromatische oder heteroaromatische Reste mit 4 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen, nämlich Phenyl-, Thienyl-, Furanyl- und Pyrazolylgruppen. Diese aromatischen Gruppen können einen oder mehrere ankondensierte Benzolringe enthalten, beispielsweise Naph-thylringe, Benzothienyl-, Dibenzothienyl-, Benzofuranyl- und Dibenzofuranylringe. Diese aromatischen Reste können durch eine oder mehrere Gruppen der folgenden Art substituiert sein: Halogenatome, Nitro-, Hydroxyl-, Carboxyl-, Anilino- oder N-Alkylanilinogruppen, Estergruppen, beispielsweise Alkoxycarboxylgruppen, wie die Methoxycarbonyl-, Äthoxy-carbonyl-oder Phenoxycarbonylgruppe, Sulfoestergruppen, beispielsweise Alkoxysulfonylgruppen, wie die Methoxysulfonyl-, Butoxysulfonyl- oder Phenoxysulfonylgruppe, Amidogruppen, beispielsweise Acetamido-, Butyramido- oder Äthylsulfonami-dogruppen, Carbamylgruppen, wie die Carbamyl-, N-Alkyl-carbamyl- oder N-Phenylcarbamylgruppen, Sulfamylgruppen, wie die Sulfamyl-, N-Alkylsulfamyl-, N,N-Dialkylsulfamyl-oder N-Phenylsulfamylgruppen, Alkoxyreste, wie die Methoxy-, Äthoxy- oder Butoxygruppe, Arylreste, wie die Phe-nylgruppe, Alkylreste, wie die Methyl-, Äthyl- oder Butyl-gruppe, Aryloxyreste, wie die Phenoxygruppe, Alkylsulfonylre-ste, wie die Methylsulfonyl- oder Äthylsulfonylgruppe, Arylsul-fonylreste, wie die Phenylsulfonylgruppe, Perfluoralkylreste, wie die Trifluormethyl- oder Perfluoräthylgruppe, und Per-fluoralkylsulfonylreste, wie die Trifluormethylsulfonyl- oder Pèrfluorbutylsulfonylgruppe.
Spezielle Beispiele für in der erfindungsgemässen Masse verwendbare Photoinitiatoren der Formel I sind Diphenyljodonium-tetrafluorborat, Di-(4-methylphenyl)-jodonium-tetrafluorborat, Phenyl-4-methyIphenyljodonium-tetrafluorborat, Di-(4-heptylphenyl)-jodonium-tetrafluorborat, Di-(3-nitrophenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(4-chlorphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(naphthyl)-jodonium-tetrafIuorborat, Di-(4-trifluormethylphenyl)-jodonium-tetrafluorborat, Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(4-methylphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorarsenat, Di-(4-phenoxyphenyl)-jodonium-tetrafluorborat, Phenyl-2-thienyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat, 3,5-Dimethylpyrazolyl-4-phenyIjodonium-hexafIuorphosphat, Diphenyljodonium-hexachlorantimonat, Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorantimonat, 2,2'-Diphenyljodonium-tetrafluorborat, Di-(2,4-dichlorphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(4-bromphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(4-methoxyphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(3-carboxyphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(3-methoxycarbonylphenyI)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(3-methoxysulfonylphenyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat, Di-(4-acetamidophenyl)-jodonium-hexafIuorphosphatund Di-(2-benzothienyl)-jodonium-hexafluorphosphat.
Die bevorzugt verwendeten Jodoniumkomplexsalze der Formel I sind die Diaryljodonium-hexafluorphosphate, wie Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat. Diese Salze werden bevorzugt, weil sie im allgemeinen eine höhere thermische Stabilität aufweisen, die Geschwindigkeit der Photopolymerisa

tion stärker beschleunigen und in inerten organischen Lösungsmitteln besser löslich sind als andere aromatische Jodonium-salze von komplexen Anionen.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I können durch doppelte Umsetzung aus den entsprechenden einfachen aromatischen Jodoniumsalzen. beispielsweise dem Diphenyljodonium-bisul-fat, nach dem in j. Am. Chem. Soc., Bd. 81 (1959), S. 342, beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt werden. Beispielsweise wird das Komplexsalz Diphenyljodonium-tetrafluorborat durch Zusatz einer Lösung von 29,2 g (150 mMol) Silberfluorborat, 2 g Fluorborsäure und 0,5 g phosphoriger Säure in 30 ml Wasser bei 60° C zu einer Lösung von 44 g (139 mMol) Diphenyljo-doniumchlorid hergestellt. Das sich abscheidende Silberhaloge-nid wird gewöhnlich abfiltriert und das Filtrat eingedampft. Es wird das Diphenyljodonium-fluorborat erhalten, das sich durch Umkristallisation reinigen lässt.
Die einfachen aromatischen Jodoniumsalze können nach dem in J. Am. Chem. Soc., Bd. 81 (1959), S. 342, beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt werden, beispielsweise
(1) durch Kupplung von zwei aromatischen Verbindungen mit Jodylsulfat in Schwefelsäure,
(2) durch Kupplung von zwei aromatischen Verbindungen mit einem Jodat in einem Gemisch von Essigsäure, Essigsäureanhydrid und Schwefelsäure,
(3) durch Kupplung von zwei aromatischen Verbindungen mit einem Jodacylat in Gegenwart einer Säure und
(4) durch Kondensation einer Jodosoverbindung, eines Jodosodiacetats oder einer Jodoxyverbindung mit einer anderen aromatischen Verbindung in Gegenwart einer Säure.
Diphenyljodonium-bisulfat wird z.B. nach der Methode (3) hergestellt, beispielsweise durch Zusatz eines Gemisches von 35 ml konzentrierter Schwefelsäure und 50 ml Essigsäureanhydrid bei einer Temperatur unterhalb 5° C innerhalb eines Zeitraumes von 8 Stunden unter starkem Rühren zu einem Gemisch von 55,5 ml Benzol, 50 ml Essigsäureanhydrid und 53,5 g Kaliumjodat. Das Gemisch wird gewöhnlich eine weitere Stunde bei 0 bis 5° C und sodann 48 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur gerührt und hierauf mit 300 ml Diäthyläther behandelt.
Beim Eindampfen scheidet sich das rohe Diphenyljodonium-bisulfat aus. Es lässt sich durch Umkristallisation reinigen.
Als Epoxyverbindungen kommen für die photopolymeri-sierbaren erfindungsgemässen Massen alle organischen Verbindungen in Frage, die einen durch Ringöffnung polymerisierbaren Oxiranring enthalten. Zu diesen Epoxiden gehören vor allem die monomeren Epoxyverbindungen und polymere Ep-oxide. Es können aliphatische, cycloaliphatische, aromatische oder heterocyclische Verbindungen eingesetzt werden. Diese Verbindungen enthalten im allgemeinen mindestens eine reaktionsfähige Epoxygruppe, vorzugsweise zwei oder mehr Epoxy-gruppen im Molekül. In den polymeren Epoxyverbindungen können zahlreiche Epoxygruppen vorhanden sein. Beispielsweise kann ein Glycidylmethacrylat-Polymerisat mehrere 1000 Epoxygruppen im Molekül enthalten.
Das Spektrum dieser Epoxyverbindungen kann von niedermolekularen monomeren Verbindungen bis zu hochmolekularen Polymerisaten reichen, die in der Art ihrer Hauptkette und der Seitenketten stark variieren können. Beispielsweise kann die Hauptkette von beliebiger Art sein. Als Substituenten der Hauptkette kommen alle Gruppen in Frage, die kein aktives Wasserstoffatom enthalten, das mit einem Oxiranring in Reaktion treten kann. Beispiele für geeignete Substituenten sind Halogenatome, Ester-, Äther-, Sulfonat-, Siloxan-, Nitro-, Amid-, Nitrii- und Phosphatgruppen. Das Molekulargewicht der Epoxyverbindungen kann von etwa 58 bis 100 000 oder mehr betragen. Es können auch Gemische verschiedener Epoxyverbindungen in den photopolymerisierbaren Massen der Erfindung verwendet werden.
Die Epoxyverbindungen sind bekannt. Zu ihnen gehören die Epoxide, beispielsweise Epilhalogenhydrine, wie Epichlor-hydrin, Alkylenoxide, wie Propylenoxid und Styroloxid, Alke-nyloxide, wie Butadienoxid, Glycidylester, wie Glycidyläthyl-ester, Epoxyharze des Glycidyltyps, wie der Diglycidyläther von Bisphenol A und von Novolakharzen, wie sie beispielsweise in dem Buch «Handbook of Epoxy Resins» von Lee und Neville, McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York (1967), beschrieben sind.
Andere verwendbare Epoxyverbindungen enthalten vorzugsweise einen oder mehrere Cyclohexenoxidgruppen, wie die Epoxycyclohexancarbonsäureester, beispielsweise der 3,4-Ep-oxycyclohexancarbonsäure-3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethylester, 3,4-Epoxy-2-methylcyclohexancarbonsäure-3,4-epoxy-2-methylcyclohexylmethylester und Adipinsäure-di-3,4-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethylester. Weitere brauchbare Epoxide dieser Art sind in der US-PS 3 117 099 beschrieben.
Besonders brauchbare Epoxyverbindungen sind die monomeren Glycidyläther der allgemeinen Formel

in der R einen Alkyl- oder Arylrest bedeutet und n eine ganze Zahl mit einem Wert von 1 bis 6 ist. Spezielle Beispiele für diese Verbindungen sind die Glycidyläther mehrwertiger Phenole, die durch Umsetzen eines mehrwertigen Phenols mit einem Über-schuss eines Chlorhydrins, wie Epichlorhydrin, hergestellt werden. Ein spezielles Beispiel ist der Diglycidyläther von 2,2-Bis-(2,3-epoxypropoxyphenol)-propan. Weitere Beispiele für verwendbare Epoxide dieser Art sind in der US-PS 3 018 262 beschrieben.
Im Handel sind zahlreiche Epoxyverbindungen erhältlich, die in den erfindungsgemässen photopolymerisierbaren Massen verwendet werden können. Beispielsweise für besonders gut zugängliche Epoxyverbindungen sind Propylenoxid, Epichlorhydrin, Styroloxid, Vinylcyclohexonid, Glycidol, Glycidylme-thacrylat, Diglycidyläther von Bisphenol A, wie sie beispielsweise unter den Warenzeichen «Epon 828», «DER-331», «DER-332» und «DER-334» verkauft werden, Vinylcyclohe-xendioxid, wie es beispielsweise unter dem Warenzeichen «ERL-4206» verkauft wird, der 3,4-Epoxycyclohexencarbon-säure-3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethylester, der unter dem Warenzeichen «ERL-4221» verkauft wird, der 3,4-Epoxy-6-methyl-cyclohexencarbonsäure-3,4-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethyl-ester, der unter dem Warenzeichen «ERL-4201» verkauft wird, der Adipinsäure-di-3,4-epoxy-6-methylcyclohexylmethylester («ERL-4289»), der Bis-(2,3-epoxycyclopentyl)-äther («ERL-0400»), aliphatische Epoxide, die mit Polypropylenglykol modifiziert sind («ERL-4050» und «ERL-4052»), Dipentendioxid («ERL-4269»), epoxidiertes Polybutadien («Oxiron 2001»), Epoxygruppen enthaltende Silikonharze, flammabweisende Epoxyharze, beispielsweise ein bromiertes Epoxyharz des Bisphenoltyps («DER-580»), 1,4-Butandioldiglycidyläther («Araldite RD-2»), Polyglycidyläther von Phenol-Formalde-hyd-Novolakharzen («DEN-431» und «DEN-438») sowie Resorcin-diglycidyläther ( «Kopoxite » ).
Weitere verwendbare Epoxyverbindungen sind die Copoly-merisate von Acrylsäureestern des Glycidols, beispielsweise Glycidylacrylat oder Glycidylmethacrylat, mit einer oder mehreren copolymerisierbaren Vinylverbindungen. Spezielle Beispiele für diese Copolymerisate sind 1:1-Styrol-Glycidylmetha-crylat- und l:l-Methylmethacrylat-Glycidylacrylat-Copolyme-risate sowie 62,5:24:13,5-Methylmethacrylat-Äthylacrylat-Glycidylmethacrylat-Copolymerisate.
Weitere verwendbare Epoxyverbindungen sind Polyurethane mit Epoxidgruppen, die durch Umsetzen von organischen

Polyisocyanaten mit einem dreiwertigen Alkohol oder einem Gemisch eines dreiwertigen Alkohols und eines zweiwertigen Alkohols unter Bildung von Polyurethan-Prepolymeren mit Iso-cyanatendgruppen und Umsetzen der Prepolymeren mit aliphatischen Epoxiden mit Hydroxylgruppen hergestellt werden. Weitere Beispiele für verwendbare Epoxyverbindungen dieser Art sind in der US-PS 3 445 436 beschrieben.
Andere, in den erfindungsgemässen Massen verwendbare kationisch polymerisierbare organische Verbindungen, die in den genannten photopolymerisierbaren Massen verwendet werden können, sind Oxetane, Alkylvinyläther und Lactone. Die bevorzugten Oxetane haben die allgemeine Formel

in der n eine ganze Zahl mit einem Wert von 1 bis 4 ist, und R einen Alkyl- oder Aralkylrest oder einen anderen niedermolekularen oder hochmolekularen organischen Rest bedeutet, der keine basischen Gruppen, beispielsweise primäre oder sekundäre Aminogruppen, enthält, die stärker basisch sind als Triphe-nylamin. Die in den Massen verwendbaren Lactone sind bekannt.
Die erfindungsgemässen photopolymerisierbaren Massen können auch Gemische von zwei oder mehr kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen enthalten. Beispielsweise können die photopolymerisierbaren Epoxyverbindungen zur Einstellung der Viskosität, der Verarbeitbarkeit oder der Eigenschaften der ausgehärteten Produkte mit einer gewissen Menge eines Oxetans, Alkylvinyläthers oder Lactons verschnitten werden.
Die genannten photopolymerisierbaren Massen können je nach den verwendeten kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen und den Jodoniumkomplexsalzen beispielsweise als Klebstoffe, Dichtungsmassen, Giess- und Formmassen, Einbettmassen, Imprägnier- und Beschichtungsmassen eingesetzt werden.
Die genannten photopolymerisierbaren Massen können auch andere übliche Zusätze enthalten, beispielsweise bis zu etwa 50 Volumenprozent oder mehr Füllstoffe, wie Kieselsäure, Talkum, Glasperlen, Ton oder Metallpulver, wie Aluminium, oder Zinkoxid, Viskositätsmodifiziermittel, Weichmacher, Anhydride, kautschukartige Polymerisate, Klebrigmacher und Pigmente.
Die erfindungsgemässen photopolymerisierbaren Massen sind auf Grund der hohen Abriebsbeständigkeit der ausgehärteten Produkte und ihrer Haftung an starren, elastischen oder biegsamen Substraten, wie Metall, Kunststoffen, Gummi, Glas, Papier, Holz oder Keramik, besonders geeignet in der Reproduktionstechnik. Die Aushärtungsprodukte haben eine ausgezeichnete Beständigkeit gegenüber den meisten Lösungsmitteln und Chemikalien, und es lassen sich Abbildungen mit hoher Auflösung herstellen. Anwendungsgebiete sind beispielsweise s die Herstellung von säure- und alkalibeständigen Abbildungen zum chemischen Walzen, Tiefdruckbildern, Offsetplatten, Anilindruckformen, sieblosen Flachdruckformen, Druckplatten, Schablonen, Mikrobildern für gedruckte Schaltungen, Mikrobildern für die Informationsspeicherung, Dekorationen von m Papier, Glas und Metalloberflächen und schwach ausgehärteten Beschichtungen. Die erfindungsgemässen Massen können auch zum Imprägnieren von Substraten, wie Glasfasergewebe, zur Herstellung von lagerstabilen Produkten verwendet werden, die sich für zahlreiche Herstellungs- und Reparaturverfahren eig-i ? nen, bei denen härtbare flüssige Massen schlecht gehandhabt werden können.
Die Photopolymerisation der erfindungsgemässen Massen erfolgt gewöhnlich beim Belichten mit beliebigen Strahlungsquellen, wie energiereiche Strahlung mit einer Wellenlänge m innerhalb des ultravioletten und sichtbaren Spektralbereiches imitiert. Beispiele für derartige Strahlungsquellen sind Queck-Silber-, Xenon-, Kohlenstoffbogen- und Wolframfadenlampen sowie Sonnenlicht. Die Belichtung kann weniger als etwa 1 ■ Sekunde bis 10 Minuten oder mehr betragen, je nach der Menge --■* und der Art der eingesetzten Epoxyverbindungen und des Jodo-niumkomplexsalzes, der Strahlungsquelle, dem Abstand von der Strahlungsquelle und der Schichtdicke der auszuhärtenden Masse. Die genannten Massen können auch durch Behandlung mit Elektronenstrahlen polymerisiert werden. Im allgemeinen ™ beträgt die erforderliche Dosis weniger als 1 megarad bis 100 megarad oder mehr. Einer der wesentlichen Vorzüge der Aushärtung mit Elektronenstrahlen ist der, dass stark pigmentierte Massen rascher und wirkungsvoller ausgehärtet werden können als bei Belichtung mit energiereicher Strahlung. " Vermutlich erfolgt die Photopolymerisation durch strah-lungsinduzierten Abbau des aromatischen Jodoniumkomplex-salzes unter Bildung einer Lewis-Säure, die die Polymerisation der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen beschleunigt. Sobald der Abbau des aromatischen Jodonium-komplexsalzes einsetzt, läuft die Aushärtungsreaktion ab, selbst nachdem die Strahlungsquelle abgeschaltet wurde. Durch Anwendung thermischer Energie während oder nach der Bestrahlung wird die Aushärtung stark beschleunigt.
Die in den erfindungsgemässen Massen verwendeten aro-matischen Jodoniumkomplexsalze sind ihrerseits nur im ultravioletten Spektralbereich lichtempfindlich. Durch Sensibilisato-ren für bekannte, photolytisch spaltbare organische Halogenverbindungen, wie sie in der US-PS 3 729 313 beschrieben sind, werden sie jedoch für das nahe Ultraviolett und den sichtbaren 5" Bereich des Spektrums sensibilisiert. Beispiele für verwendbare Sensibilisatoren sind aromatische Amine, Aminoketone und gefärbte aromatische polycyclische Kohlenwasserstoffe. Die Verwendung basischer Aminoverbindungen ist nicht bevorzugt, da diese Verbindungen mit der aus dem Photoinitiator entstan-55 denen Lewis-Säure reagieren und die Polymerisation der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen verlangsamen.
Das aromatische Jodoniumkomplexsalz kann in einer ,,o Menge von 0,5 bis 30 Teilen, vorzugsweise von 1 bis 7 Teilen, je 100 Teile der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindung verwendet werden. Für photopolymerisierbare Massen, die einen Sensibilisator enthalten, so dass die Masse gegenüber Strahlung im sichtbaren Spektralbereich empfindlich ist, können r,5 0,01 bis 1,0 Teile, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 1,0 Teile, Sensibilisator pro Teil aromatisches Jodoniumkomplexsalz verwendet werden.
Die genannten Massen können durch einfaches Vermischen unter Sicherheitslichtbedingungen des aromatischen Jodonium-

komplexsalzes und des gegebenenfalls verwendeten Sensibilisa-tors mit der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindung hergestellt werden. Gegebenenfalls kann zusätzlich ein inertes Lösungsmittel verwendet werden. Beispiele für verwendbare Lösungsmittel sind Aceton, Acetonitril und Methanol sowie andere Lösungsmittel, die mit der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindung, dem aromatischen Jodoniumkomplexsalz und dem Sensibilisator nicht reagieren. Als Lösungsmittel kann auch eine flüssige kationisch polymerisierbare organische Verbindung für eine andere flüssige oder feste kationisch polymerisierbare organische Verbindung verwendet werden. Im allgemeinen wird das Lösungsmittel jedoch lediglich zur Einstellung der Viskosität der Masse verwendet. Lösungsmittelfreie Massen können durch einfaches Auflösen des aromatischen Jodoniumkomplexsalzes und des gegebenenfalls verwendeten Sensibilisators in der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindung und gegebenenfalls gelindes Erwärmen hergestellt werden.
Die Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung. Teile und Prozentangaben beziehen sich auf das Gewicht, sofern nichts anderes s angegeben ist.
Beispiele 1 bis 6 Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat(mit (£>2IPF6 bezeichnet) in den in Tabelle I angegebenen Mengen wird zu 5 Teilen m eines Diglycidyläthers von Bisphenol A mit einem Epoxyäqui-valent von etwa 190 («DER-331 ») gegeben und bei etwa 50° C gründlich eingemischt. Sodann wird jeder Ansatz in einer Dicke von 0,006 cm auf eine 0,005 cm dicke Polyesterfolie aufgetragen. Proben der Beschichtungen werden sodann mit einer 275-i5 Watt UV-Lampe (General Electric RS) in einem Abstand von 12,7 cm bestrahlt. Die Klebfreizeit der Beschichtungen ist in Tabelle I angegeben.

Aus Tabelle I ist ersichtlich, dass die Klebfreizeit von 120 Sekunden bei lprozentiger Konzentration des Diaryljodonium-komplexsalzes auf 25 Sekunden bei einer Konzentration von 5 % des Komplexsalzes abnimmt. Eine Erhöhung der Komplexsalzkonzentration auf 6% ergibt keine weitere Verminderung der Klebfreizeit, weil bei 6% die Löslichkeit des Komplexsalzes in der Epoxyverbindung überschritten ist.
Beispiele 7 bis 16 Gemäss Beispiel 1 bis 6 werden aus verschiedenen Epoxyverbindungen und verschiedenen Mengen verschiedener aromatischer Jodoniumkomplexsalze der in Tabelle II angegebenen Art photopolymerisierbare Massen hergestellt. Mit diesen Massen werden Beschichtungen hergestellt, die in einem Abstand von 12,7 cm mit einer UV-Lampe (General Electric RS) bzw. in einem Abstand von 17,8 cm mit einer Quecksilberdampflampe (General Electric H3T7) belichtet werden. Die Klebfreizeit ist in Tabelle II angegeben.

Eine Lösung von 20 g Diglycidyläther von Bisphenol A mit einem Epoxyäquivalent von etwa 190 («DER-331»), 1,0 g Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat und 0,1 g 2-Äthyl-9,10-dimethoxyanthracen wird in einer Dicke von 0,076 cm auf eine 0,005 cm dicke Polyesterfolie aufgetragen. Danach wird die Beschichtung mit einer UV-Lampe (General Electric RS) 5 Minuten in einem Abstand von 12,7 cm bestrahlt. Es wird eine harte, ausgehärtete Beschichtung erhalten, die fest an der Polyesterfolie haftet. Die ausgehärtete Probe ist vollständig durchsichtig und zeigt keine Blasenbildung. Unbelichtete Teile der Beschichtung können mit Aceton ausgewaschen werden. Es hinterbleibt eine scharfe Bildfläche mit deutlicher Zeichnung.
Beispiel 25
Es wird eine Lösung hergestellt, die 5 g einer 5prozentigen Lösung eines 1:1 -Styrol-Glycidylmethacrylat-Copolymerisats in Aceton, 0,01 gDiphenyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat und 0,005 g 2-Äthyl-9,10-dimethoxyanthracen enthält. Die Lösung wird in einer Dicke von 0,006 cm auf eine 0,005 cm dicke Polyesterfolie aufgetragen und an der Luft getrocknet. Sodann wird die Probe 3 Minuten durch einen V2 Stufenkeil mit einer Quecksilberdampflampe (General Electric H3T7) in einem Abstand von 17,8 cm belichtet. Hierauf wird die Probe in Aceton getaucht, um die unbelichteten Bereiche bzw. Details 5 auszuwaschen. Es hinterbleiben 7 Stufen des auspolymerisierten Produkts.
Beispiel 26
Ein weiteres Beispiel für die Verwendbarkeit der photopo-io lymerisierbaren Massen ist ihre Verwendung als Lack zum Beschichten von Angelwinden.
Beispiele 2 7 bis 33 Verschiedene kationisch polymerisierbare organische Ver-15 bindungen werden in einer Menge von jeweils 3 g in Lösungen eingetragen, die 0,15 g Diphenyljodonium-hexafluorphosphat und 0,02 g 2-Äthyl-9,10-dimethoxyanthracen in 1 bis 2 g Methylenchlorid enthalten. Vergleichsbeispiel 34 und Beispiel 35 Es werden zwei Lösungen hergestellt, die folgende Bestandteile in den angegebenen Gewichtsteilen enthalten.

Die beiden Lösungen werden auf Polyesterfolien aufgetragen und sodann getrocknet. Es hinterbleibt ein 17 Mikron dicker Anstrichfilm. Jede Probe wird mit einem Elektronenbeschleuniger von 100 kV und 2,5 m A in einem Abstand von 19 mm bestrahlt. Eine Dosis von 10 megarad verursacht bei Vergleichsbeispiel 34 keine bemerkenswerte Wirkung. Eine Dosis von 3 megarad ist bei der Masse von Beispiel 35 ausreichend, um sie bis zum klebfreien Zustand auszuhärten.

Claims (18)
- 617 7112PATENTANSPRÜCHE 1. Photopolymerisierbare Massen auf der Basis von kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindungen, die einen Photoinitiator enthalten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator ein aromatisches bzw. heteroaromatisches Jodo-niumkomplexsalz der Formel IAr(Z)ist, in der Ar1 und Ar2 aromatische bzw. heteroaromatischeReste mit 4 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen bedeuten, Z ein Sauer-I I 11O = S = O oder R-N eine Kohlenstoff-Kohlenstoff-Bindung1 'l oder die Gruppe R!-C-R2 darstellt, in welchen Gruppen RWasserstoff, Niederalkyl oder Niederacyl ist und R! und R2 Wasserstoffatome, Alkylreste mit 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen oder Alkenylreste mit 2 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen bedeuten, n den Wert 0 oder 1 hat und X© ein Tetrafluorborat-, Hexafluor-phosphat-, Hexafluorarsenat-, Hexachlorantimonat- oder Hexafluorantimonat-Anion ist.
- 2. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die kationisch polymerisierbare organische Verbindung eine Epoxyverbindung mit mindestens einer reaktionsfähigen Ep-oxygruppe im Molekül ist.
- 3. Massen nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Epoxyverbindung ein Epichlorhydrin, Alkylenoxid, Alke-nyloxid, Glycidylester, Glycidyläther, ein Novalakharz mit Ep-oxygruppen, ein Copolymerisat eines Acrylsäureesters von Gly-cidol mit einer copolymerisierbaren Vinylverbindung oder ein Polyurethan mit Epoxygruppen ist.
- 4. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Ar1 und Ar2 Phenyl-, Thienyl-, Furanyl- oder Pyrazolylgruppen bedeuten.
- 5. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der Ar1 und Ar2 gegebenenfalls substituierte Phenylgrup-pen bedeuten.
- 6. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der Ar1 und Ar2 gegebenenfalls substituierte Thienylgrup-pen bedeuten.
- 7. Massen nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der n den Wert 0 hat.
- 8. Massen nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der n den Wert 1 hat und Z eine Kohlenstoff-Kohlenstoff-Bindung ist.
- 9. Massen nach Anspruch 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der n den Wert 0 hat.
- 10. Massen nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der Ar1 und Ar2 Alkylphenylgruppen bedeuten.
- 11. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Photoinitiator eine Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I ist, in der X© ein Tetrafluorborat-, Hexafluorphosphat- oder Hexafluorantimonat-Anion ist.
- 12. Massen nach Anspruch 1, gekennzeichnet durch einen Gehalt von 1 bis 7 Gewichtsteilen des Photoinitiators pro 100 Gewichtsteile der kationisch polymerisierbaren organischen Verbindung.
- 13. Massen nach Anspruch 1, gekennzeichnet durch einen zusätzlichen Gehalt von 0,01 bis 1 Gewichtsteil eines Sensibili-sierungsfarbstoffes pro Gewichtsteil Photoinitiator.
- 14. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die kationisch polymerisierbare organische Verbindung eine Vinyläthergruppe enthält.
- 15. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die kationisch polymerisierbare organische Verbindung eine Oxetangruppe enthält.
- 16. Massen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die kationisch polymerisierbare Verbindung ein Lacton ist.
- 17. Massen nach Anspruch 1, gekennzeichnet durch einen Gehalt von bis zu 50 Volumenprozent eines Füllstoffes.
- 18. Verwendung der photopolymerisierbaren Massen nach Anspruch 1 zur Herstellung von ausgehärteten Beschichtungen.Es sind bereits photopolymerisierbare Massen auf der Basis von Epoxyharzen bekannt, die Photosensibilisatoren enthalten, doch haben sie einen oder mehrere Nachteile. Beispielsweise sind in der US-PS 3 074 869 photopolymerisierbare Massen beschrieben, die Epoxyverbindungen und ein Nitrosoamin als Photosensibilisator enthalten. Massen dieser Art erfordern eine verhältnismässig lange Belichtung mit einer Strahlungsquelle hoher Intensität, um eine vollständige Polymerisation zu bewirken.In den US-PSen 3 205 157 und 3 708 296 sind photopolymerisierbare Massen beschrieben, die neben Epoxyverbindungen Aryldiazoniumsalze bzw. Aryldiazoniumsalze von Halogen enthaltenden komplexen Anionen enthalten. Diese Massen sind auf Grund ihrer geringen thermischen Stabilität nur beschränkt brauchbar, ihre spektrale Empfindlichkeit ist auf den ultravioletten Bereich des Spektrums beschränkt, und während der Photopolymerisation wird Stickstoff entwickelt, was zur Bildung von feinen Löchern und Bläschen in dickeren Beschichtungen führt.Bei Verwendung dieser bekannten Aryldiazoniumsalze zur Photopolymerisation von Oxetanen oder Gemischen von Ox-etanen mit Epoxyharzen, wie dies beispielsweise in der US-PS 3 835 003 beschrieben ist, treten die gleichen Schwierigkeiten auf. Obwohl in mehreren Patentschriften verschiedene Methoden zum Stabilisieren von Gemischen aus Diazoniumsalzen und Epoxiden beschrieben wurden, sind diese Methoden aus mehreren Gründen unbefriedigend. Beispielsweise beträgt die Erhöhung der Stabilität nur einige Tage. Ferner werden die Massen durch den Zusatz von Stabilisatoren verunreinigt, was zu einer Verminderung der Geschwindigkeit der Photopolymerisation und zu einer Erweichung des Produkts führt ; vgl. US-PSen 3 711 390,3 711 931,3 816 278,3 816 280,3 816 281, 3 817 850 und 3 817 845.In der US-PS 3 450 613 ist eine photopolymerisierbare Masse beschrieben, die das Reaktionsprodukt eines Epoxy-Prepolymers mit einer olefinisch ungesättigten organischen Verbindung, einen Photosensibilisator und gegebenenfalls polyfunktionelle Säuren oder Basen enthält. Bei Belichtung mit ultraviolettem Licht geliert diese Masse auf Grund der strah-lungsinduzierten Polymerisation des olefinisch ungesättigten Teils des Reaktionsprodukts. Eine vollständige Aushärtung der Masse wird durch Erhitzen erreicht. Hierbei erfolgt eine Umset5H)1520253035-404550556065617 711zung des Epoxyharzanteils der Masse. Massen dieser Art sind beschränkt brauchbar, da sie sowohl eine Strahlungsquelle als auch eine Wärmequelle zur vollständigen Polymerisation und Aushärtung erfordern. Ausserdem sind diese Massen empfindlich gegen Sauerstoff und haben eine schlechte thermische Stabilität.
