Caisse enregistreuse.

4B, 8 et 9). Dlécanisme d'entraînement<I>de la caisse</I> enregistreuse.
<I>Mise en place des mécanismes</I> imprimeurs <I>et</I> indicateurs.
Mécanisme d'embrayage oit <I>de</I> défrayage <I>du</I> totalisateur.
<I>Entrées additives.</I>
Mécanisme <I>de</I> report des dizaines.
Introduction <I>d'une unité</I> ficgitive .
<I>Opération de</I> total <I>et</I> sous-total.
<I>Solde</I> négatif.
Cash register. The present invention relates to a cash register intended to perform subtraction by addition of the complement.
Cases are already known in which the subtraction can be carried out by the process of complementary addition and in which, moreover, an effective total, either positive or negative, can be printed. The mechanisms, however, are especially complicated and costly to manufacture, and the object of the present invention is to provide a simple and economical case allowing these various functions to be fulfilled.
The cash register doing. the object of the invention comprises upright keys, a pair of positioning members. of uprights for each order of units, complementarily movable organs, a connecting rod coupling each positioning member to a corresponding transmission member, a totalizer recording the amounts and a mechanism acting selectively to move the totalizer, such that the wheels of the latter cooperate with one or other of the transmission members of each pair, with a view to being put in place by them depending on whether it is an addition or a subtraction .
This cash register is characterized in that each of said positioning members of each pair is coupled by said connecting rod to its corresponding transmission member, so that the two transmission members are placed in the same rotary direction to transmit. either an actual amount, or the complement thereof, to the totalizer wheels, despite the opposing movements of their corresponding transmission members, to turn the corresponding totalizer wheel, when said wheel is selectively engaged with one either of the transmitters, in the same direction either for addition or for subtraction. 'The accompanying drawing represents, at.
by way of example, an embodiment of the cash register forming the subject of the invention.

The keyboard of the cash register shown has a number of rows of amount keys 10 (fig. 3A), a subtraction key 11 (fig. 4B, 8 and. 9), a subtotal key 12 ( fig. 4B, 8 and 9) and a total 13 key (fig. 4B, 8 and 9). <I> cash register </I> drive mechanism. The main drive mechanism of the body is shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The body has been shown here driven by means of a crank 14, but it could also be driven by means of an electric motor. The crank 14 can be connected, thanks to a clutch dog 15, to a driving pinion 16 which meshes with an intermediate pinion 17 mounted on a pin 18 fixed to the right side of the frame 19 of the machine.
With the pinion 17 engages another pin 20 fixed on a main shaft 24 and to which is fixed a pinion 21 which meshes with a similar pinion 22 fixed on a camshaft 23. The movement in the dextror- sum direction of the crank 14 (in fig. 1), via the pinions 16 and 17, causes a similar rotation of the pinion 20, which in turn rotates the pinions 22 and the camshaft 23 in the direction senestr orsum and in the report. from one to one.
A cam 25, fixed on the main shaft 24, has a notch in which engages a roller 26 carried by a lever 27 pivots both at 28 on the frame 19. The notch has a shape such that only the movements in the dextrorsum sense are possible. A spring 29, stretched between the lower end of the lever 27 and a button 30 of the frame 19, provides an elastic connection between the roller 26 and the cam 25.
Diffei-eii-tial mechanism.
The differential upright mechanism is of a common type, in which a pair of complementary movable differential members embrace the opposite sides of a depressed key or zero stop. This mechanism is only briefly described here as a function of a single order of units.
A pair of differential members 31, 32 (fig. 3A, 3B, 4B and 7) are mounted loose on the drive shaft. main 24 (fig. 1, 2, 3B, 4B and 7). A balance 33 pivots at one of its ends to an er-ot 34 of the differential member 31, while, thanks to a notch formed at its other end, it engages a lug 35 of the differential body 32.
A cam 36, in contact with the upper edge of the balance 33, is mounted on a rod 37 carried by a pair of arms 38 wedged on a shaft 39 (fig. 3B and 7). The trin gle 37 also supports rollers 40 (see also fi-, 4A) which cooperate with a pair of cams 41 wedged on the camshaft 23.
When the cams 41 rotate in the senes- tr-orsum direction (fig. 3B and 7), thanks to the drive mechanism described above, the rod 37 is moved to the left, which forces the cam 36 to. moving the balance 33 towards the main shaft 24, causing the differential member to tilt.
31 in the dextrorsum direction and the differential organ 32 in the senestorsum direction if this member is not stopped by a stop stop at zero 43 pivoting on a lug 85, until these members both embrace the opposite sides of a depressed key (eg key 5 shown in dotted lines 42 in Fig. 3A in its depressed position) or that the differential member 31 also comes into contact with the stopper ü, zero 43.
Each zero stopper 43 comes into contact with a lug 82 carried by a smooth neck 83 having a series of cam ridges which cooperate with lugs 84 of the upright keys 10, so that when any one of the keys 10 is depressed, the slide 83 is actuated downwards, forcing the lug 82 to swing the zero stop pawl 43 in the senestorsum direction, key such that its tail is withdrawn from the path of the organ differential 32.
The differential members 31 and 32 are returned to the normal position by the following mechanism: Slits in an arc of a circle 44, 45 made in the differential members 31 and 32, respectively (fig. 3A, 3B and 7) are in contact. with lugs 46, 47 attached to arms 48, 49 mounted on the. rod 37 (see also fiÏ. 4B).
At each end of the rod 37 is mounted a lever 50 (only one of which is shown in Figs. 3B and 7), terminated by a chette four which embraces the main shaft 24. These levers 50 carry rollers 51 which cooperate with cams 52 fixed to the main shaft 24, key such that, when the shaft and the crowns turn in the dextrorsum direction, the levers 50, and consequently the rod 37, move to the right away from Ar bre 24, on which the lugs 46, 47 cooperate.
with the ends of the cam slots 44, 45 and rotate the differential members 31, 32 in opposite directions from one another, which returns them to their normal positions, as shown in FIGS. 3B and 7.
During the interval between the positioning movement and the return movement of the differential members 31 and 32, the latter are aligned in the positions chosen by an alignment bracket 53 (fig. 3B and. 7) which extends behind all rows of upright keys. Alignment caliper 53 est. carried by a pair of arms 54, pivoted both on the shaft 39 and connected, by their rear end, to connecting rods 55 carrying gaets 56 and 57, which cooperate with cams 58 and 59 wedged on the shaft. cams 23.
Once the differential members 31 and 32 have been put in place, the cams 58 and 59 tilt the arms 54 in the dextrorsal direction, which forces the alignment bracket 53 to engage in the teeth made in the differential organs and to keep them firmly in the positions given to them. <I> Establishment of mechanisms </I> printers <I> and </I> indicators.
On the main shaft 24 are mounted times (see Figs. 3B and 7) a number of toothed segments 60, one per row of uprights, on the opposite sides of each of which are secured by pins 61, 62 integral with the uprights. differential members 31, 32, respectively, so that the segments 60 are placed in a position corresponding to the combined movements of the differential parts 31 and 32.
The teeth of the segments 60 mesh with pinions 63 (FIGS. 3A, 3B and 4) each fixed on one of several shafts 64 nested in one another. At the other end of the shafts 64 are individually fixed pins 65 which each mesh (fig. 4A) with corresponding pinions 66 each fixed to one of the tubes of a set of telescopic tubes 67 which bear at their other end of type wheels 68.
Each segment 60 is connected, by a connecting rod 69 (FIGS. 3B and 7), to an indicator segment 70 mounted idle on the camshaft 23 and generating with a drive pinion. 71 (fig. 3B and 4B) fixed to the side of a front indicator drum 72 carried by a support shaft 73 carried by calipers 74. The right caliper 74 is supported by the side frame 19, and the caliper 74 on the left is supported by a bar 75 (fig. 4A) carried by frames 76 and 77.
The front indicator drums 72, which are visible through an opening 78 (Fig. 4B) made in the trunk 79 of the machine, are connected by a set of telescopic tubes 80 to the rear indicator drums 81.
Segments <I> for setting up the totalizer </I>. To each of the differential members 31 and 32 are fixed connecting rods 86 and 87 (fig. 3A, 4B, 5, 5A and 7) which are connected by their other end to segments 88 and 89, respectively, which pivot on a shaft. 90 supported in the lateral part of the machine frame, so that the segments 88 and 89 are always driven in the sec- nestrorsum direction (fig. 3A) in the positioning movements and in the opposite direction in the movement movements. return.
On the shaft 90, next to each of the segments 88, 89 are mounted pivoting arms 91 (fig. 3A, 4B, 5, 5A and 6). At the end of each arm is a cam slot 139, the purpose of which will be explained later and, to wrap this cam slot, a short sleeve 92A shown in dotted lines in FIG. 5 A is attached to the arm. On the ends of these short sleeves associated pairs of segments 88, 89 pivot intermeshing intermediate gears 92 and 93. each with the corresponding segment.
As indicated above, the differential members 31 and 32, during the interval between their placing in position and their return movement, are. held by the alignment caliper 53 (fig. 3B), The clutch movement of the totalizer occurs substantially when the alignment caliper is released.
To prevent the differential members from executing any untimely movement at this time, on a shaft 149 (fig. 3A, 4 $ and. 5) is mounted a pawl 178 for each of the intermediate gears 93, and corresponding pawls 179 for each. intermediate sprockets 92. Each adjacent pair of pawls is normally held in contact with a retaining bar 18l. which extends between totalizer support arms 96 and 97 and under the action of a torsion spring 180.
In this way, when the totalizer is engaged, the pawls 178 and 179 engage with their corresponding intermediate gears 92 and 93 to hold them against any untimely movement, while clicking on the teeth of the gears 92, 93 when those - these are forcibly driven by the differential members.
<I> Totalizers. </I> Each totalizer includes a series. totalizing wheels 94 (fig. <B> 3A, </B> 4B, 5, 5A, 1.1 and 13) which can turn on a support shaft 95, fixed between the support arms 96 and 97 carried by the shaft 149. The shaft 95 and the arms 96 and 97 form a frame which can be moved axially in order to align the counter wheels with either of the intermediate pins 92 or 93 and which can be tilted to engage the totalizer wheels with the selected sprockets, as explained later.
The counter wheels 94 cannot accidentally turn. during the clutch and disengaging movements thanks to locking ratchets 98 (fi. <B> 3A, </B> 4B and <B> 5), </B> one per totalizer wheel, swiveling on a rod 99 carried by the totalizer arms 96 and 97. As can be seen in FIG. 3A, an extension 100 of the pawls rests nor malement on the solid surface of a curved guide plate 101 carried by a trin gle 102, itself supported in the side parts of the frame of the. machine.
The pawls of the pawls engage with the associated totalizer wheels.
As the totalizer arms 96, 97 perform their movement. clutch in the dextrorsal direction (in fig. 5), that is to say from the position shown in fig. 3A to that of the fi-. 5 and 5A, an edge! 1 of each pawl 98 engages with an edge B of the plate 101, which forces the pawls 98 to rotate counterclockwise (in fig. 5) around the trin gle 99 and to disengage from the totalizer wheels 94. The extensions 100 of the pawls 98 then penetrate into the notches 103 made in the plate 101.
Dormouse of the return movement effected in the senestorsum direction (in fig. 5) by the totalizer arms 96, 97, the extensions 100 of the pawls 98 are actuated in the senestorsum direction by the right sides, playing the role of cams, slots 103, whereby they resume contact with the totalizer wheels 94 when the latter cease to engage with the intermediate gears 92 or 93.
Clutch mechanism or <I> of </I> release <I> of the </I> totalizer. The time of engagement and disengagement of the totalizers with respect to the intermediate gears 92 or 93, depending on the operation to be carried out, that is to say depending on whether it is a total, a subtotal or a subtraction, is determined by three cams 104, 105, 106 (fig. 3B, 4A, 10 and 11) fixed on a shaft 107 which, driven,
makes one revolution in the senestrorsum direction (fig. 11) each time the crank 14 is turned two turns, through the intermediary of a reduction gear train 17, 108, 109 and 110 (fi -. 1 and 2). On a shaft \? 11 are mounted loose three debossed levers 111, 112 and 113, which have upper arms Tour ehus, while the lower arms each carry a roller, which rollers are respectively kept in contact with the cams 10-l , 105 and 106 under the action of individual springs 114.
An arm 118 is articulated, at 163, to the arm 96 of the totalizer frame and, as will be seen by examining the view of this arm taken from below, in FIG. 12, it comprises a parallel branch fixed at its free end and, between them, the arm and the branch support three lugs which are spaced vertically and at equal distance from each other, but without being aligned laterally. In other words, the arm carries an upper lug 115 which can engage in the forked end of the lever 111. Between the arm and the branch is carried a median lug 116 which can engage in the forked end of the lever. 112 and, in addition, the branch carries a lower lug 117 engaging with the lever 113.
A lever 158, mounted idle on the interlocking shaft 64, comprises at its lower part a lug 161 which engages in a slot 162 made in the free end of the arm 118. The upper arm of the lever 158 comprises, in 160, a slot intended to receive a lug 159 fixed to an arm 157 wedged on a shaft 155.
In fig. 11, there is shown the mechanism adjusted for addition or subtraction operations, in which the median lug 116 is located between the forks of the end of the lever 112, while the levers 111 and 113 are no longer .engaged with their corresponding pins, 115 and 117 respectively. If the shaft 155 is rotated in the extrorsum direction or in the senestorsum direction, a movement in the opposite direction will be communicated to the lever 158, and a movement similar to the arm 118, whereby either the lug 115 or the lug 117 is brought into engagement with its corresponding lever, 111 or 113 respectively.
The way in which these latter operations are carried out is described below. In the following appears the description of the totalizer clutch for addition or subtraction operations.
It can be seen that, by its configuration, the cam 106 (FIG. 11) intervenes to rotate the lever 112 in the dextrorsum direction at the opportune moment of the operating cycle of the machine. Lever 112, by engagement with lug 116, moves arm 118 to the right, which in turn rotates the totalizer frame in the senestorsum direction, bringing the totalizer into engagement with the intermediate gears. 92 or 93. The adjustment over time of this clutch coincides with the return movement of the differential members, as described more precisely below, so that the amount represented by the latter is added to the totalizer. .
When the cam 106 releases the lever 112, the latter, together with the arm 118 and the totalizer frame, are returned to their normal position by the corresponding spring 114. <I> Additive inputs. </I>
The totalizer wheels 94 (Figs. 3A, 4B and 11) are normally disposed opposite the intermediate gears 93, associated with the adder segments 89 coupled to the differential organs 32.
As described previously, for the additive inputs, the arm 118 (fig. 11) is placed in its middle position, so that the lug 116 is in contact with the lever 112, whereby the totalizer engages at the same time. moment conducive to addition under the influence of cam 106, that is to say at the moment of the cash register cycle following that when the differential members have been placed in position and before they are returned to their normal position.
Consequently, when the <B> differential </B> elements 31 and 32 are returned to their original positions, the segments 89 are rotated in the dextrorsal direction and the intermediate pins 93 rotate in the direction senestrorçum (fig. 3A) in order to introduce the correct amount into the totalizer, after which the cam 106 causes the totalizer to be disengaged from the gears 93. Subtractive entries.
For subtractive entries, the operator presses the subtraction key 11 (fig. 8, 9), together with the keys on the amount keyboard.
The rod of the subtraction key 11 (FIG. 8) has, projecting, a lug 142 which, when the. key, cooperates with an edge 143 formed on a slide 144 and moves the latter downward. The opposite side of the shank of the subtraction key 11 ffig. 9) door -a lug 172 which cooperates with an edge of a locking slide 173, in order to hold down the key used.
To the slide 144 (fig. 8) is articulated a connecting rod 145 attracted upwards by a spring 150 and connected to a totalizer displacement arm 146 (see also fi; g. 4B and 6) which pivots freely on the shaft, <B> 90. </B> A diagonal slot 147 made in the arm 146 accommodates a lug 148 fixed to a solid sleeve of the arm 96 of the totalizer frame.
Thus, when the slide 144 is moved downward as a result of the depression of the subtraction key, the arm 146 rotates in the senestorsum direction, and the cam action of the slot made therein and the lug 148 -of the totalizer frame causes the latter to be moved to the right (fig. 4B), which places the totalizer wheels in front of the intermediate pins 92.
The operation of the subtraction key 11 has no effect on the arm 118 (Fig. 11), so that in operation. of the body which follows, the totalizer is engaged with the pinions 92 in additive adjustment, whereby the amount which is represented by the positions of the differential members 32 and of the subtraction segments 88 (which amount is the complement of the compound amount by those of the keys which have been pressed) is added to the totalizer.
When the subtraction key 11 is released by the return slide 173 (fig. 9), once the entry is completed and the to talisator is disengaged, the connecting rod 145 and the smooth neck 144 are brought upwards by the spring 150 (fig. 8), which returns the arm 146 as well, so that the totalizer returns to the position in which its wheels are. opposite the intermediate gears 93.
Mechanism <I> of </I> carry over tens. As explained previously, the shaft 107 (fig. 1 and 2) makes a complete revolution. during a complete operating cycle of the machine. A. the shaft 107 is fixed a partial gear 119 having a toothed sector 120 which can mesh with the teeth of another partial gear 121 wedged on the shaft 90, whereby the latter shaft is driven in the senestrorsum direction and performs one revolution for a fixed period within each operating cycle of the cash register.
During. the times when the teeth of the partial gears are not engaged, a locking plate 122 that carries the pi-non 119 engages in an arc 123 formed in the pinion 121 .en inne to block this last. The pinions are wedged in such a way that the shaft 90 begins to rotate substantially as the locating segments reach their normal positions.
It is. by examining figs. 5 and 5A, which had give. respectively a plan view and an isometric view, that we better understand the operation of the transfer mechanism. The counter wheels 94 are shown in mesh with the intermediate addition gears 93 in FIG. 5 and with the subtraction gears 92 in fig. 5A.
Each totalizer wheel 94 is seen from a long transfer tooth 124. A shaft 126, fixed between the two side faces of the body, passes through all the intermediate gears 92, 93 and the arms 91 with great play. Shaft 126 are mounted without transfer pawls 125, one per counter wheel.
Each transfer pawl 125 comprises an advancing tooth 261, a repel tooth 127 and a locking tooth 137. The latter is offset with respect to the plane containing the other two teeth. A large locking pawl 135, mounted loosely on a shaft 131 which crosses the body from edge to edge, engages normally,
between the return and locking teeth and must remain in this position under the action of a torsion spring 136 which turns it in the senestrorsum direction. A pin 138 projects laterally on the left side of the pawl 125 and engages clans a cam opening 139 formed in the arm 91 which carries the intermediate gear 92 of the immediately higher order totalizer. On the transfer pawl 125, by means of a short sleeve, is fixed a partial pinion 521 which meshes with a gear 130 mounted idle on the shaft 131 and on which are fixed two teeth 132.
Two pinions 129 and 134, wedged on the shaft 90, are arranged respectively in the planes of the teeth 261 and 127 of the pawl 125, and of the teeth 132 fixed to the pinion 130, the teeth not normally being in engagement.
When the totalizer wheel goes from 9 to 0, that is, by turning in the senestrorsum direction, the long tooth. 124 contacts the tail of the transfer pawl 125 and swings the latter in the dextrorsum direction, whereby the tooth. advance 261 is brought, by tilting, on the path of the teeth 128 of the pinion 129.
An edge made on the tooth. 137 forces the locking pawl 135 to swing away from the teeth 137 and 127 until the crest of the first has passed the top of the locking pawl, after which the latter slides downhill on the lower surface of the tooth, which ensures that the transfer pawl fully moves in the dextrorsum direction until it comes to rest between teeth 137 and 261.
The dextrorsum movement of the transfer pawl is also communicated to pinion 521, which rotates pinion 130 in the senestorsum direction.
When the shaft 90 is rotated, that is to say in the senestorsum direction (fig. 5 and 5A), the first dënt 128 of the pinion 129 engages with the advancing tooth 261 and, by there, impart another dextrorsal rotational movement to the transfer pawl until the locking pawl slides over teeth 261. This further movement of the transfer pawl brings teeth 132 of pinion 130 to the rear. correct position to be fully engaged with the teeth 133 of pin 134.
Furthermore, during this new movement in the direction @dextrorsum, the pin 138 comes into contact with the lower part of the cam opening 139 of the support arm 91, so that the latter is moved slightly in the direction. dextrorsum. Given that at this moment the positioning segment 88 or 89 must move, because the pins 46, 47 are engaged with the ends of the slots 44, 45, formed in the differential members, the intermediate gear 92 or 93 performs a planetary movement around said segment.
and, as a result, turns itself in the dextrorsum direction of a gap and, given that at this instant the totalizer is engaged, a unit is added in the totalizer wheel of the order immediately higher.
Once the transfer has been made, the totalizer is disengaged and the teeth 133 of the pinion 13-1 then meet the teeth 132 and rotate the latter and. pinion 130 in the dextrorsum direction to return them to the normal position, which movement in turn rotates partial gear 521 and transfer pawl 125 in the senestrous direction to the initial position. During this movement, the pawl 135 clicks on the teeth 127 and 137.
Pin 138 moves back along the cam opening of the support arm 91 and lowers the support arm and idler gear, returning them to their up or normal position.
Introduction <I> of a fictitious unit </I>. As we know, when one subtracts a number from a totalizer by the method of the addition of the complement, the result of the direct addition is in fact less than one unit than the real result and one corrects this. error in arranging for a carryover, which is necessarily effected through the wheel of the higher order, to be transmitted in the form of a fleeting imitation to the wheel of the lower order.
According to fig. 13, 14 and 15, the long tooth 124 of the highest order wheel of the totalizer, going from 9 to 0 in a subtraction operation, makes contact with a pawl 140 wedged on the shaft 126, making turn these in the dextrorsal direction (fig. 14). On the opposite end of the shaft 126, in close proximity to the lowest order totalizer wheel 94, is a transfer pawl 141 which, in this way, is tilted onto the path. teeth 128 of the pinion 129 of the transfer mechanism (fig. 5 and 5A).
Thus, when carry over operations occur, one unit is found to be added to the lowest order wheel, as described, in order to give the correct result.
<I> Operation of </I> total <I> and </I> subtotal.
On the same row of keys as the subtraction key 11 (fig. 4B, 8 and 9) is a subtotal 12 key and a total 13 key.
The sub-total key 12 (fig. 9) has a lug 164 and la. key total 13 a lug 165. Both cooperate with edges of a slide 166, so as to lower the slide against the action of a res sort 177, when one or the other of the two is pressed. keys.
At the rear end of the slide 166 is a slot which redoit a pin 167 of an arm 168 wedged on a shaft 169. On the shaft 7:69 est. also fixed another arm 170 (fig. 3B), the arms 168 and 170 supporting a rod 171 which extends behind all of the slides 83.
When the slide 166 moves downwards, the arm 168 and the arm 169 tilt in the dextrorsum direction (at fi4. 3B), so that the rod 171 comes into contact with the rear edge of the set of slides 83 of zero stop control (fig. 3A and 3B), directing them downwards, in such a way that the pins 82 make all of the zero stops 43 inoperative.
The lugs 164, 165 (fig. 9) can also cooperate with ridges formed on the locking slide 13, so that, when one or the other of these keys is depressed, the slide 173 is pushed towards. the top against the action of the spring 200 until the lug 164 or 165 passes through a nose 175 or 176 of the slide, so as to block the key in the depressed position.
The slide 173 is automatically and suitably moved temporarily upward when approaching the end of each operating cycle of the cash register, to allow the pressed key to be returned to its original position by the usual spring. reminder.
A lug 151 (Fig. 8) attached to the base of the subtotal key 12 supports par. pivoting a lever 152, a forked lower end of which is engaged with a lug 153 of an arm 154 wedged on the shaft 155. The upper end of the lever 152 is articulated to a lug 156 arranged at the foot of the key of total 13.
When the subtotal key 12 is depressed, the lever pivots in the senestorsum direction around the lug 156, causing the arm 154, shaft 155 and arm 157 (fig. 11) to swing in the dextrorsum direction. The arm 157, through the intermediary of the lever 158, communicates a movement similar to the arm 118, the lug 115 of which is placed between the jaws of the fork of the lever 111, while the lugs 116 and <B> 117 </B> 7 emerge from their respective levers 112 and 113.
It can be seen, by referring to FIG. 11, that the upper edge of the. cam 104 extends approximately between the angles of 100 and 325, so as to cause the engagement of the totalizer during its rotation of this angle, during which time the differential members perform both their positioning movement and their return movement.
r given that the totalizer is associated with the differential members during the whole of the movement of installation of the latter, it is driven in a direction opposite to that of the addition until return to zero, time from which any continuation of the movement is prevented, because the long teeth of the wheels have met the rear faces of the carry pawls. It is therefore understood that the differential members, _ the indicators and the printing members are placed in position according to the number read on the totalizer.
During the return movement of the differential members, it is obvious that the same number is introduced into the totalizer.
When the total key 13 is pressed (fig. 8), the lug 156 causes the lever <B> 152 </B> 2 to swing in the dextrorsum direction around the pivot point 151, causing the switch to tilt. 'ar ber 155 and the arm 157 (fig. 11) in the senestorsum direction in order to impart a similar movement to the arm 118 through the intermediary of the lever 158. The movement of the arm 118 causes the lug 117 to engage in the jaws of lever 113.
The upper surface of the cam 105 engages the totalizer at the opportune moment of the body cycle, and during this period the differential members 31 and 32, returning the totalizer to its normal position, are arranged according to the number which was noted there, as well as the printing mechanism and the indicators. The totalizer is disengaged before the differential components are returned to their original position, so that the amount is not reintroduced into the totalizer. <I> Balance </I> negative.
As previously indicated, the highest order addition wheel of the totalizer is always reset to either 9 or 0, depending on whether the total is negative or positive.
On the counter wheel 94 of the highest order is fixed (fig. 13) an additional wheel 182. A pinion 183 is mounted loose on the shaft 126 (fig. 4B, 14 and 1.5) and in grain with the wheel 182 (fig. 13) both in the addition position and in the totalizer subtraction position.
On the pinion 183 is fixed a disc-cam 184 (fig. 4A, 11, 14 and 15) having a groove 185 in one of its faces, which groove receives a lug 186 (fig. 4 and 11) fixed to an arm of control 187 wedged on a rod 102.
On the rod 102 is also pinned an arm 188 (FIG. 8) connected by a connecting rod 189 to a slide 190 mounted on fixed lugs 191.
A pair of pawls 192 and 193, pivoting on the slide 144, have cam tracks 196 and 197, respectively, which receive buttons 194 and 195 mounted on the slide <B> 190. </B> The normal positions of the pawls are those shown in solid lines in FIG. 8, positions in which the noses of these pawls are not in the path of lugs 198 and 199 of the shanks of the keys 12 of subtotal and 13 of total.
The ratio between wheel 182 (fig. 13) and pinion 183 (fig. 13 and 14) has been calculated such that when the highest order totalizer wheel 94 and wheel 182 are in position of 0, the lug 186 (fig. 11) overlaps in the large radius part of the groove 185 of the cam 184, while when the totalizer wheel 94 of the high phis order and the wheel 182 are in position. position of 9, the lug 186 is located in the small radius part of the cam.
In other words, when the totalizer is overdraft. (negative balance), which causes the wheel of the highest order to go from 0 to 9 during an entry, the analogous positioning of the wheel 182 brings the pinion 183 (fig. 14 and 15) and the cam 184 to be turned in the dextrorsum direction (fig. 11), so that the lug 186 is brought into the small radius part of the groove 185. Therefore, the control arm <B> 187 </ B> and the rod 102 (fig. 8) tilt in the senestrorsum direction, moving the connecting rod 189 and the slide 190 upwards.
During this movement, the buttons 194 and 195 swing their respective pawls 192, 193 in the dextrorsal direction on the slide 144, so that they take the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 8.
The cam-ridges of the pawls 192, 193 then lie in the path of the pins 198 and 199, so that when either the sub-total key 12 or the total key 13 is pressed, the appropriate lug descends. on the ridge of the corresponding pawl to move the smooth neck 144 down and tilt the totalizer displacement arm 146 in the senestrorstun direction (fig. 8), exactly as it is tilted by pressing the subtract key 11, which moves the totalizer assembly to the right and brings the totalizer wheels 94 (Fig. 4) in front of the intermediate subtraction gears 92.
When the counter wheels 94 are in mesh with the intermediate gears 92, under the influence of either. of the cam 104 or of the cam 106, the totalizer wheels rotate. in the opposite direction thanks to the positioning segments, until the long teeth 124 of the wheels come into contact with the rear faces of the transfer pawls 125.
Thus, when a totalizer is brought back to zero, the differential members are set in position accordingly. to the complement of the additional number present on the subtraction segment, a number which is equal to the actual amount of the overdraft. The combined movement of placing the differential members 31 and 32 is communicated to the segments 60, which position the printing press and the indicators at the real value.
If, during normal entries, a number high enough to exceed the complementary number in the totalizer is entered, the highest order totalizer wheel 94 (fig. 13) changes from 9 to 0, the wheel <B > 182 </B> is moved correspondingly, causing the pinion 183 (fig. 14 and 15) to turn in the senestrorsum direction (fig. 11), which brings the lug 186 back to the large radius part of the groove 185 and turns the trin gle 102 (fig. 8) and the arm 188 in the dextrorsal direction, in order to lower the slide 190 and return the pawls 192 and 193 to their normal position,
shown in solid line.
Under the influence of the. highest order totalizer wheel 94, a bell may, in the known manner, ring when the totalizer changes from the positive state to the negative state.
It is also possible to provide that, when the totalizer is moved to the right, that is to say from the addition position to the subtraction position, the two-color ink ribbon is moved from the black printing position to print position in red, so that subtracted values and negative totals and subtotals are printed in a distinctive color.
