Machine comptable.

Dispositif .empêchant que <I>la</I> machine <I>puisse être enclenchée si une touche de mon-</I> <I>tant n'est</I> que <I>partiellement enfoncée.
Dispositif <I>compteur.
<I>Débrayage de</I> l'avancement <I>automatique</I> <I>du</I> compteur.
4. Un autre exemple est à considérer, à savoir celui dans lequel une touche est en foncée dans chacune des rangées des unités et des -dizaines. On suppose que le nombre est "44" dont le complément à enregistrer soustraetivement au compteur est "956". Aucune difficulté ne sue présente pour la rangée ,des unités, dans;
Opération <I>de</I> total.
<I>Commande du</I> compteur <I>pour les opéra-</I> <I>tions de solde négatif.
Quand on enfonce la touche "Solde néga tif" 77 (fig. 12), la came 394 tourne quelque peu dans le sens senestrorsum pour écarter une de ses parties de grand diamètre du ga let 395. L'arbre 399 et le bras 400 peuvent alors tourner dans le sens dextrorsum (fig. 6), ce qui fait basculer le levier 403 (fig. 7) dans le sens dextrorsum et déplace le curseur 350 vers la gauche;
Accounting machine. The present invention relates to an accounting machine comprising a counter device mounted on the same axis as the positive device to be calculated (addition-subtraction totalizer). This counter is used to count certain recorded amounts; it advances either automatically by one unit, for example for each recording of a given genre, or by any number of units composed on a keyboard. In known machines of this type, the number of units thus accumulated in the counter is printed at the same time as the total (or balance) contained in said device to be calculated.
Counter devices are also known which are controlled by rows of keys producing the advancement of the counter, by a number corresponding to the figure composed with these keys and whose automatic advancement of one unit is then disengaged each time these keys are used.
As the counter is mounted on the same axis as the device to be calculated, it goes without saying that these two elements always perform the same kind of function (addition, subtraction, total). If the device to be calculated is a simple totalizer only making additions and extractions of total or subtotal, the arrangement <of the meter on the same axis as the totalizer does not present any disadvantage. If, on the contrary, say it positive to. calculating is provided for other operations, such as subtraction, it will be understood that an arrangement of this kind is not possible.
The present invention makes it possible to overcome the difficulty and to arrange the counter on the axis of the device to be calculated, even for the subtractions or, where appropriate, only for the subtractions. To this end, the machine according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the advancement of the counting device only takes place if the device to be calculated on the axis of which it is mounted is engaged on the subtraction and by the fact that the differential organs provided for the counter device are automatically positioned on the complement of the number to be recorded.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the accounting machine which is the subject of the invention.

The machine which will be described comprises a keyboard 69 comprising a certain number of upright keys 71 and three rows of keys 72, arranged on the left, controlling the counter. The latter is used to count certain writings made in the machine. The machine further comprises a row of keys 73 determining the functions, motor keys 74 and a "negative balance" key 77.
When the driving key 74 (fig. 8) is lowered, an annular lever 82 pivots at 83 in the senestrorsum direction and its pin 84 rotates in the dextrorsum direction a multi-branched vier 85, mounted on a shaft 86. This lever 85 comprises an extension 87 in the form of a hook (fig. 9) and a lug 92 between which is normally a square 88 of a slider 89 sliding on studs 91 carried by an arm 90 rotating on the axis 86.
When the lever 85 rotates in the dextrorsum direction, the arm 90 is thus driven and its pin 110 (FIG. 8) is spaced from a heel 93 which comprises an arm 94 whose function is to engage the machine. Indeed, when this arm 94 is released from the stud 110, a spring (not shown) causes it to tilt in the sensory direction which, by means of a connecting rod 96, on the one hand, acts on a latching doll and, on the other hand, closes the circuit. an electric motor operating the machine.
Once the main shaft of the machine has made a complete revolution, the connecting rod 96 is automatically returned to its normal position and therefore the circuit open and the tailstock disengaged. In addition, the arm 94 rotates in the dextrorsum direction, moving the heel 93 away from the path of the stud 110, so that a spring 97, disposed between the lever 85 and an elbow lever 98, tends to bring the lever 85 back into its position. normal position. If the motor key 74 is.
inadvertently, maintained in its depressed position at the end of the operation, a nose 101 of the arm 94 meets a stud 102 of the cutter 89 (fig. 8 and 9), so that the latter lifts against the action of the spring 103 by bringing the square 88 between the hook 87 and the lug 92. In this way, the spring 97 and the elbow lever 98 can return the arms 90 and 94 to the normal position, independent of the lever 85. The machine therefore only performs one operation at a time, even if the drive key 74 is held down.
When you press the credit balance key 77, marked "Negative balance" (fig. 1 and 9), the lever 8.5 is also actuated and starts the machine., Because the key is connected by a connecting rod. 106 at lever 8: 5. The <B> 77 </B> key triggers a cycle of three or four operations, as the case may be, to transform the additional amount into an effective negative balance.
This key 77 is only recalled once: that the machine has carried out these three or four revolutions and this as follows: When key 77 is pressed (fig. 9), a square 107 is placed on the other side. below a heel 108 -a pawl 109 pivots at 115. This pawl 109 is connected by a connecting rod 117 to an arm 118 pivoting at 95 (see also FIG. 8).
A spring 116 maintains the pawl 109 in the locking position in which it retains the key 77 in its depressed position. When the arm 118 rotates in the @dextrorsum direction, its stud 119 is camed -of a pawl 120 pivoting at 99, so that the latter can turn in the senestorsum direction under the action of a spring to bring a heel 121 .on the path of the aforementioned stud 110.
In this way, the latter is kept out of the path of the shoulder 9-3 when the arm 9: 4 is returned to the normal position at the end of an operation. As a result of the arrangement described, the machine is not stopped at the end of one revolution and that the main shaft can perform several uninterrupted revolutions, for example three.
Towards the end of the third revolution, a cam 122 (fi.g. 8), mounted on the shaft 86, acts on a roller 1213 of the arm 118 and turns the latter, in the senestror- sum direction, as well as the rusting worm pawl 108, so that the key 77 can be returned by its spring.
Cam 1'22 makes only one revolution during the three machine revolutions, and once its boss has left roller 12: 3, spring 116 brings arm 11I & and pawl 10.9 back into place. the direction .dextrorsum, in the position shown in fig. 9.
The pawl 1'20 occupies the position of FIG. 8 and. Its shoulder the 21 is outside the path @du .goujon 110 ..
The printing unit is disengaged in the known manner during the first two turns of the negative balance cycle. The group is normally operated by an arm 79 (fig. 12) fixed to the main shaft 78 and a pin 112.4 of this arm is in; taken with a connecting rod 12'5 articulated to a double-arm 12'6, <B> 127 </B> controlling the printing shaft 128.
A connecting rod 12.9 connects the printing rod 12i5 to. a lever 131 pivoting at 95 and a spring f3,2: on the one hand tends to <B> to </B> pull it. connecting rod 12.9 to the left while maintaining the roller 1! 254 in engagement with the notch of the connecting rod 1215 and on the other hand to keep a roller 1.3! 3 @of the lever 131 in contact with the periphery -d 'a cam 134 integral with the cam 12.2. The rod, of the "Negative balance" key 77 (fig. 12)
carries a pawl 1315 maintained in contact, by a spring 13.6, with a ratchet wheel 137 solidary of the cams 1212, and 134. When it is squeezed into it, 77, the ratchet 1'3 ', 7 and the cams in question turn at a certain angle in the senestrorsum direction, which removes the large part from the gala 133.
diameter of the cam 1.34 and allows the lever 13.1, to pivot in the dextronsum direction. This latter movement is transmitted by the connecting rod 129 to the printing rod 1215 which is separated from the stud 124 and, therefore, released from the arm. 79. The latter, during the first two revolutions of the cycle, then performs its movements without driving the connecting rod 125 and the printing shaft 12.8.
Device preventing <I> the </I> machine <I> from being switched on if a key of mon- </I> <I> so much is </I> only <I> partially pressed.
- </I> When pressing a stud 71 (fig. 3), a stud 1.5,2 carried by this key acts on a bolt 154 and moves it to the right until the stud 15'2 is below a hooked part of the bolt and that the latter has returned somewhat
to the left under the action of a spring 1.57. A transverse rod 249 extends over the path of all the bolts 154 and is carried by two side arms' 250, 260 (fig. 4)
attached to a tree 25i1. When at least one bolt 154 is moved to the right, the rod 249 is pushed towards the rear of the machine and the '2w5' shaft 1 rotates in the xtrorsum direction. Therefore a stud 252 (fig. 3), placed at the upper end of the arm 250,
rotates in the dextrorsum direction a finger 253 and a shaft 254. As seen in FIG. 8, this rotation of the shaft 254 releases an arm 257 from a stud 258 carried by a retaining pawl 259 serving to lock the annular lever 82 controlled by the driving bar 74.
The pawl 259 remains by its heel 267 in the path of a square 268 carried by the lever 82 as long as the post key 71 is not fully depressed or fully raised.
Device <I> counter. - </I> The machine has a counter device made up of adding pinions mounted on the same axis as the pinions of the addition-subtraction mechanism (No 1 in fig. 4).
The counter comprises, in the machine shown, three of these pinions 291, 292, 293 (fig. 6) controlled by three rows of keys 72 (fig. 1).
The counter gears are therefore engaged with their differential members formed by racks, at the same time as the totalizer wheels of the addition-subtraction totalizer.
Each key "12 of the counter carries a square 269 (fig. 4 and 5) guided in a vertical slot of an intermediate wall 270. A spring 272, arranged sinusoidally (fig. 5) between fixed studs 273 and studs 274 of the keys, tends to keep the latter in their raised position.
Each stud 274 of the keys 72 cooperates with inclined ridges of a control bolt 217.5 (Fig. 4) and with inclined ridges of a locking bolt 276. These two bolts are guided by rollers 277 and are interconnected by a spring 278.
When a key 72 of the counter is pressed, the control pin 275 of the corresponding row is moved to the left and the locking pin 276 to the right. The first is
to move aside the zero-stop pawls normally retaining the racks and the second is used to keep the button in its depressed position. The right end of the locking bolt 276 cooperates with the cross rod
249 exactly like the bolts 154 of the uprights and also prevents the machine from being engaged if the button is only partially pressed.
The three rows of the counter are made up of a row of units, which is the third from the left of the keyboard, a row of tens, which is the second from the left, and a row of hundreds, which is the first to.
by shooting from the left of the keyboard. The row of units has a main differential member, consisting of a rack 279 (fig. 6). The row of tens comprises a main rack 280 and an auxiliary rack 281, and finally the row of hundreds comprises a main rack 282. and an auxiliary rack 283.
The main racks 279, 280, 282 (fig. 4) are analogous to the racks of the upright rows and are carried by transverse rods 167 and 168 on which they can slide. These racks have a 28.4 vertical slot engaged with a 2M stud carried by an angled lever <RTI
ID = "0004.0211"> 286 rotating on a shaft 1724 One of the arms of the lever 286 is connected by a connecting rod 287 to a printing sector 288 similar to the sectors printing the amounts. A spring 2.89 normally maintains an edge of lever 2i86 in contact with a yoke 174 which,
under the action of the machine control, each operation moves first in the senestorsum direction and then in the opposite direction.
The racks 279, 2f80, 2j82 (fig. 4 and 6) are provided with toothed parts with which the pinions 291, 2.92 and 2.93 of the counter can be brought into engagement. Each pinion is integral with a transfer plate 294 (fig. 4), the two tens teeth of which can act either on a pawl, additive <B> 205 </B> transfer, or on a transfer spout subtractive 2! 916. Given that, in the machine considered,
the advancement of the pinions 291 to 2.93 takes place only during the subtraction operations, the additive transfer jaws 295 are, from the start of the operation, separated from the tens teeth and these are the subtractive jaws 296 which are brought on the path of these teeth. For total and subtotal operations, additive nozzles 295 work.
The auxiliary racks 2.81 and <B> 283 </B> (fig. 4 and 6) are juxtaposed to the racks. res main 2.80 and 2.82 and are guided, on the one hand, by grooves of the transverse rod 167 and, on the other hand, thanks <B> to </B> longitudinal slots 2i97, by a stud 2:98 of the corresponding main rack 28i0 or 282.
Each of the auxiliary racks carries a 2W coupling pawl, respectively 300 (fig. 4, 1.0 and 11), of which a pin 301, respectively 302, can be engaged in a notch made in a block 303, respectively 304, fixed to the corresponding main mesh.
Spells tend to rotate the coupling pawls 299 and 300 in the dextrorized direction and to maintain the studs 301 and 302 in the notches in question, on the condition that certain locking members are previously brought into the inactive position. . Blocks 306, 307 and 308 (fig. 14 to 16) are fixed to each of the main racks 279, 280, 282 respectively and blocks 309, 315 (fig. 10 and 11) are respectively fixed to the two auxiliary racks 281 and 283.
The block 306 of the main rack 279 (fig. 14) of the row of units is intended: to cooperate with two pawls 316 and 317 mounted on the shaft 159 and which, under certain conditions specified below, maintain this rack in the zero position. The block 307 (fig. 15) of the main rack of the tens row cooperates with two pawls 318 and 319, while the block 308 (fig. 16) of the main rack of the hundreds row cooperates with a stop pawl 320.
Finally, the block 309 (fig. 10) of the auxiliary rack 281 co-operates with two retaining pawls 321 and 322, while the block 315 (fig. 11) of the auxiliary rack 283 cooperates with two pawls 323 and 324.
<I> Control of the counter by the carriage </I> <I> paper holder. </I> - It has been indicated above that the counter device automatically advances by one unit at each operation of under traction and of a number of units determined if the keys 72 are pressed. For automatic advancement to occur, it is necessary, on the one hand, for the carriage to be in a subtraction position and, on the other hand, that at least one amount key is pressed. When the machine is at rest, a locking blade 325 (FIG. 17), fixed to a yoke 326, is in the path of a heel 314 of the main racks of the counter and thus maintains them in the zero position.
An arm <B> 327 </B> of the caliper 326 is hinged to. a slider 328 guided at its other end by a shaft 162. A spring 329 tends to maintain a pin 330 of the slider 328 in contact with a finger 331 directed downwards, carried by an arm 196 fixed on the main shaft 78. Au at the start of the operation, the shaft 78 first oscillates in the senestorsum direction and the finger 331, moving away from the stud 330, allows the slide 328 to move to the right. The blade 325 is therefore moved away from the path of the shoulders 314. The movement to the right of the slide 328 is however temporarily prevented by the fact that a bracket 332 which it comprises is retained by a curved edge 333 of an arm 334 mounted. madman on a tree 335.
An upper extension 336 of the arm 334 ends with a stud 337 engaged with the forked end of a connecting rod 338 articulated to a lever 340 with several branches pi voting at 341. A branch 342 of the lever 340 is controlled by a plunger 194 (see also fig. 18) activated by the <B> movement- </B> of the carriage.
When the paper carriage is in a subtraction position (Figs. 3 and 18), a boss 344 of the subtraction tab 192 swings the plunger lever 194 in the dextrorsum direction to lift the link 343 and tilt the lever 340 (Fig. 17) in the senestrorsum sense. A bracket 418 of the lever 340 acts on a roller 419 disposed at the upper end of a lever 420 which also pivots in the senestrorsal direction to cause a lower pin 422 to cooperate with an inclined edge of a pivoting lever 423. in 424.
As a result, clutch pawls 425 and 426 are brought into the path of the foot of a lever 427 pivoting at 428 on a control plate 429. The latter is. pinned to the main shaft 78 and when the latter first turns in the senestorsum direction (fig. 17), the control plate 429 drives the lever 427 which is however retained by the end of the pawl 425. The rigid connection thus established produces traction from a connecting rod 430 articulated to an arm 431 fixed to a shaft 432 controlling the clutch of the addition-subtraction totalizer.
The pinions of this totalizer are engaged with the racks 166 before the latter move to the right according to fig. 3. Simultaneously, the pinions 291, 292, 293 of the counter (fig. 6) are engaged with the corresponding racks 279, 280, 282 before they move to the right and when the racks are actuated. sprockets rotate in the senestror- sum direction by a number of teeth corresponding to the keys pressed, but in the subtractive direction.
The same applies to the counter gears which rotate in the subtractive direction by a number of teeth corresponding however to the complement of the number dialed on the counter keyboard. Once the racks have completed their movement to the right, all the pinions are disengaged by the return movement of control plate 429.
This subtraction operation is moreover triggered in the same way when the key 73 marked "Subtraction" is pressed. In this case, however, for accounting reasons, the automatic advancement of the counter is disengaged.
Indeed, when we push the subtraction key (fig. 17), a notch 433 made in the rod of the key comes on the path of a bracket 434 of a pawl 435 that a spring 436 can thus make. switch in the senestrorsum direction. The pawl 435 acts on a stud 437 of the lever 420 which controls the operation of subtraction as in the case previously described, but it is seen that, in this case, the lever 340 has not operated. The subtraction key is recalled at the end of the subtraction by any known means.
When, during a subtraction triggered by the plunger 194, the lever 340 pushes the connecting rod 338 to the right according to FIG. 17 or to the left according to fig. 19, the arm 334 rotates against the action of a spring 417 by moving the edge 333 away from the square 332.
The slide 328 can thus move to the right (FIG. 17) and bring the blade 325 into its inactive position when the shaft 78 and the finger 331 rotate in the senestrorsum direction.
Automatic advancement of. counter. <I> - </I> It was said above that, for subtractions, the counter automatically advances by one if the counter keyboard is not used. To cause this advancement, it is necessary that a key of amount 71 at least be pressed.
In fact, in this case, the three main racks 279, 280 and 282 (fig. 6) are released and perform a full stroke backwards, so that the number "999" is recorded subtractively in the counter. Subtracting "999" is equivalent to adding one unit.
Each of the zero stop pawls 158 (fig. 3 and 13) for the upright rows are normally engaged by a hooked portion 345 with a transverse rod 346 which extends the full width of the keypad, including the computer keyboard. When an upright key is depressed, the pawl 158 of the row in question switches in the senestrorsum direction as a result of the leftward movement of the bolt 155.
The transverse rod 346 is therefore lifted while driving, as seen in FIG. 13 to 16, the stop pawls 317, 319 and 320 normally retaining the three main racks 279, 280, 282 of the counter. As the other retaining pawls 316 and 318 for the main racks 279 and 280 remain in the inactive position, shown in fig. 14 and 15, all the racks 279, 280 and 282 are therefore no longer retained and, as no key 72 is pressed, they can move over their entire stroke, that is to say up to "9" .
During the automatic advancement of the counter, the auxiliary racks 281 and 283 (fig. 10 and 11) are retained in the zero position, because the pawls 321 and 322 for the auxiliary rack 281 and the pawls 323 and 324 for the auxiliary rack 283 remain engaged with blocks 309 and 315, when no key 72 is pressed.
The retaining pawls 321 and 322 (Fig. 10) have inclined edges cooperating with corresponding edges of the coupling pawl 299. Similarly, the pawls 323 and 324 (Fig. 11) cooperate with the coupling pawl. 300. When one of the pawls 321 or 322 is in its active position to retain the rack, the force of its spring is predominant over that of the res out 305 and the pawl 299 is held in its lowered position so that the stud 301 is out of the notch of block 303. The same is true for pawl 300 and stud 302 which are held outside the notch of block 304.
In this case, the auxiliary racks are therefore not coupled with the main racks.
<I> Disengaging </I> the <I> automatic </I> <I> advance of the </I> counter. - It has been indicated above that the automatic advance of a unit in the counter was disengaged when using the key 73 "Subtraction" (fig. 17). For this purpose, the lower end of the this key acts on an inclined edge 349 of a cursor 350 connected by a connecting rod 351 to an arm 352 fixed on the shaft 335.
When the "Subtract" key is pressed, the cursor 350 moves to the left (Fig. 17) and rotates the shaft 335 dextrorally, which brings a curved edge 353 of an arm 354 onto. the path of the bracket 332 and prevents the slide 328 from moving to the right. The blade 325 therefore remains on the path of the shoulders 314 of each of the three racks 279, 280, 282 of the counter.
The movement of cursor 350 may also be intended to position a printing segment so that a distinguishing mark is printed to point out that the "Subtract" key has been pressed and that the counter has not advanced. The cursor 350 is moreover also controlled by other keys, such as the "Non-add" key, the "Balance" key, etc., which also position a distinctive symbol.
When drawing a balance (or a sub-total balance), the blade 325 (fig. 17) must be moved away from the shoulders 314 so that the racks <B> 279, </B> 280, 282 can be brought into place. the position corresponding to the number contained in the counter and that this number can be printed. To this end, the keys 73 marked "Balance" and "Sub-total Balance" cooperate with edges 355 and 356 of the slider 350 to move the latter sufficiently for the connecting rod 351 to rotate the arm 352 and the shaft 335. in the dextror- sum direction and bring the edge 353 above the square 332.
The rotation of the arm 354 is sufficient for its pin <B> 357 </B> (fig. 17 and 19) to come into contact with the arm 334 and drive it out of the path of the square 332. This movement is necessary , because at this time the carriage is not in a subtraction position.
Use <I> of the counter keyboard. </I> - If, instead of letting the counter advance automatically by one unit, you want to count more than one amount at a time, for example when recording a only sum corresponding to several checks, it suffices to dial the number (of checks) with the keys 72. But, for this number to be recorded on the meter, it is also necessary, in this case, for the trolley to be in a position of subtraction. However, it is not necessary for an amount key to be pressed.
In the following, we will examine the different cases which may arise when using the three rows of the counter: 1. If a key 7 2 is used, in the row of units only (third row from the left in fie. 1), the main racks 279 of this row must take the position corresponding to the complement of the number of the pressed key, while the main racks 280, 282 of the tens and hundreds rows must take the position "9" .
For example, if we press the key "4" of the row of units, the rack 279 must come to take the position of the complement, that is to say "6", position in which one of the heels 358 ( fie. 4) of the rack 279 must meet the square 269 of the pressed key. In moving in this way, rack 279 rotates pinion 291 (fie. 6) six divisions in the subtractive direction, which is equivalent to rotating the pinion four divisions in the additive direction.
In this example, no key is dark in the tens and hundreds rows and the corresponding racks therefore move up to "9", so that finally the additional digit "996" is recorded subtractively in the counters, which is equivalent to an addition of the number "4". The pawl 321 (fie. 13) is connected by a bracket to a hook 359 (fie. 13 and 14) having for object to lift the transverse rod 346 which, as we have seen, releases the retaining pawls of the rows of tens. and hundreds. The hook 359 is connected, on the other hand, to the pawl 365 which is located on the path of the bolt 275.
When a key of the row of units is pressed, the bolt is moved to the left and the pawl 321 is tilted in the senestrorsum direction. With the rod 346 raised, the retaining pawls 317, 319, 320 (fie. 14, 15, 16) are released from the main racks 279, 280, 282. Like the retaining pawl 321 (fie. 10) for the auxiliary rack 281 is brought into the inactive position, but the other retaining pawl 322 remains in the active position, this auxiliary rack remains in the zero position. The pawls 323 and 324 (fie. 11) for the rack 283 remain in the active position and the rack ü the zero position.
In summary, the first main rack moves until it is held by the depressed key, and the tens and hundred rows row racks move up to "9".
2. In the case where a key is pressed only in the tens row, for example to dial the number "40", it is the complement of this number, or "960", which must be recorded subtractively in the counter. For this purpose, the main rack 279 of the row of units must be retained at zero, that of the tens row be brought to the complementary position., 6 "and that of the hundreds row must run its full stroke until "9".
As in the first case, the auxiliary racks are retained at the zero position. The pawl 322 (fie. 13) for the auxiliary rack 281 is connected, on the one hand, by a bracket to a hook 366 (fie. 15) intended to lift the bar 346 and, on the other hand, to the pawl < B> 367 </B> cooperating with the bolt 275 of the tens row. When the desired key is pressed in this second row, the tar gette <B> 275 </B> is moved to the left and rotates the pawls 367 and 322 in the senestorsum direction to lift the rod 346, which releases the pins. pawls 317, 319, 320 of the main racks 279, 280, 282 (fie. 14 to 16).
The pawls 316 and 318 for the main crankshafts 279, 280 are connected by rods 368, 369 (fig. 13) articulated to angled levers 370, 371 fixed on a shaft 372. On the latter are, moreover, fixed two levers 373 whose upper branches are connected by a transverse bar 374 cooperating with a spout 375 of the pawl 367 of the tens row and with a spout 376 of the pawl 377 of the hundred row.
The pawls 316 and 318 (fig. 14 and 15) are connected by springs 378, 379 to the elbows 370, 371 so that the latter can move independently of the pawls. When the latter must, for the reasons indicated further on, stay in the inactive position.
By rotation in the senestorsum direction of the hook 366 (fig. 15), the transverse bar 346 is raised and the retaining pawl 317 is retained in the inactive position. In addition, the spout 375 switches the cross bar 374, the shaft 372 and the angled levers 370, 371 in the dextrorsum direction, a movement which is transmitted by the rod 368 to the pawl 316 which is thus brought into engagement with the block. 306 to retain the main rack 279 of the row of units at the zero position.
At the moment when the pawl 367 swings in the senestrorsum direction, its pin 380 (fig. 15) is placed in the upper part of a slot made in the pawl 318 and prevents this pawl from being lowered into its active position. . In this case, the rotation of the lever 371 only has the effect of bending the spring 379.
In summary, when a key is pressed in the tens row only, the main row 279 of the ones row is held at zero, that of the tens row can move to the pressed key and that of the row of hundreds moves up to "9". In the example considered, it is therefore the number "960" which is recorded subtractively or, in other words, the number 40 additively.
3. A third case may arise when a key 72 is pressed in the hundreds row only, for example to dial the number "400" whose complement "600" is then recorded subtractively. In this case, the main racks of the ones and tens rows must be held at zero, while the rack of the hundreds row moves to the pressed key (position "6").
The two auxiliary racks in the tens and hundreds rows must also be retained at the zero position. When a key is pressed in the hundreds row, the corresponding bolt 275 (fig. 13) moves to the left and causes the pawl 377 to swing with the pawl 324 in the senestrorsum direction (fig. 16). The spout 376 then acts on the bar 374 and the shaft 372 turns the angled levers 370 and <B> 371 </B> and consequently the pawls 316 and 318.
These are brought into engagement with blocks 306 and 307 (Figs. 14 and 15) and hold main racks 279 and 280 at the zero position. The pawl 320 for the main row of hundreds crank 282 is lifted from the block 308 by a pin 381 carried by the pawl 377, so that the rack 282 is released and can move up to the depressed key.
The retaining pawl 324 (Fig. 11) for the auxiliary chainring 283 (hundreds row) is brought into the inactive position, as shown above, by pressing a key in the hundreds row. The pawl 323, for its part, remains in the active position so that the auxiliary rack is retained in the zero position.
On the other hand, since no key is pressed in the rows of ones and tens, the two retaining pawls 321 and 322 remain active and hold the auxiliary chainring 281 of the tens row (fig. 10) to the zero position.
4. Another example to consider, namely the one in which a key is dark in each of the rows of units and -dens. It is assumed that the number is "44" whose complement to be recorded subtractively to the counter is "956". No difficulty is present for the row, of the units, in;
in which the rack 2.79 is retained in the "6" position corresponding to the "4" key. On the other hand, in the row of tens, instead of the position "6" which corresponds to the key "4", the mesh must be retained a position before, that is to say at the position "5".
For this purpose, the auxiliary rack 2181 of this row must be coupled to the main rack 280 so, precisely, that the latter is stopped at the "5" position.
The main rack of the. row of hundreds performs, as in the previous cases, its entire course up to "9".
When a key is pressed in the row of units, the bolt 275 (fig. 13 <B>) </B> of this row is moved to the left and.
switches the pawl 365 in the senestron @ um direction, so that the hook 359 lifts the rod 346 which, in turn, brings the pawls 317, 319, 3'20 for the main racks 2J79, 2s80, 282 into the inactive position Likewise,
the pawl .321 (fig. 10 and 13) for the auxiliary rack 281 (tens range) is also brought into the inactive position.
Depressing a key in the tens range has the effect of bringing the pawl 367 and the pawl <B> 322 </B> for the auxiliary chainring 281 to the inactive position.
The latter is therefore released completely. But, simultaneously, the coupling pawl 299 (fig. 10) rises under the action of its spring and the stud 301 comes. engage in the notch of block 303, thus coupling the racks 2 $ 1 and 280.
However, when the pawl 367 swings in the senestror- sum direction, the nose 375 acts on the rod 374 and the shaft 372e (fig. 14 and 1a), but the pawls 316 and 318 are held by the studs 382 and 380 in inactive position.
As seen in fig. 4 and 10, the auxiliary rack 2 $ 1 has a number of shoulders 383 corresponding to each of the shoulders 3.58 of the main rack 2.80, but offset however. to the right, one position. So if the auxiliary crankshaft 281 is coupled to the main crankshaft 280,
the shoulder 383 in question retains the assembly a position before the normal position, so that the "4" key presses in this case to stop at the "5" position instead of the "V" position.
Since no key is pressed in the hundreds row, the pawl .3.24 (fig. 11 and 13) remains active and maintains the auxiliary rack 283 in the zero position.
The other click 323 provided for this auxiliary rack is, on the other hand, in the inactive position, which furthermore has no influence in the example considered. We have therefore, in summary, for the number "44",
a stop of the jibs at the additional number "95.6".
5. We will further examine the example of a key pressed in each of the tens and hundreds rows, for example the number "440". The complement is "560" and, in this case,
the main rack of the ones row must be kept at zero, that of the tens row at position "6" and that of the hundreds row at position <B> "6" </B> hands <B> 1, </B> That is to say "5".
By pressing a key in the tens row, the bolt 275 of this row (FIG. 13) moves to the left by acting on the pawl 367 which lifts the pawl 32'2.
Through the spout 375 (fig. 15), the shaft 372 turns in the dextrorsum direction to switch the pawl 3'1,6 (fig. 14) for the auxiliary rack 2179 of the row of units into the active position,
so that it is maintained at the zero position. In the particular case, this movement is necessary because, during the tilting, in the senestorsum direction, of the pawl <B> 367, </B> the hook 366 lifts the rod 346 and brings the pawls 317, 319 and 320 into the inactive position (fig. 14 to 16).
The pin 380 (fig. 15) maintains, in combination with the slot of the pawl 318, the latter in the inactive position, even during the rotation of the shaft 3'72, so that the main rack 2 $ 0 of the,
row of tens can move up to the pressed key.
In the hundreds row, depressing the key moves pawl 377 (fig. 11 and 13) to bring pawl 3 \ 24 into the inactive position. for the auxiliary rack 2813 ,. When the ratchet â (67 has tilted in the senestronsum direction,
as a result of the depression of a key in the tens row, a bracket 384 acts on a bracket 385 of the pawl 3213 - and also brings the latter into the inactive position. As a result, the auxiliary rack 283 is released at the same time as it is coupled to the main rack 282.
Consequently, in the row of hundreds, the number of racks is: stopped in a forward position, that is to say: at "5" and the additional number recorded subtractively is therefore "5.60".
6. 0'n, will also assume that a key is pressed. In, each of the rows of units and hundreds, that is to say that one dials for example the number "40'4". The complement is in this case: "596", the rack of the row of units to be stopped by the key pressed, that of the tens row moved by nine units and that of the hundreds row by five units.
By pressing a key in the row of units, the corresponding bolt 275 (fig. 13) moves to the left by actuating the pawl 3.65, as well as the pawl 321.
The hook 359 lifts the rod 346, which brings in the inactive position the pawls 317, 3.19 and 3'-20 for the main racks 27-9, 2i & 0, 282.
Pressing a key in the hundreds row. has the effect of tilting the pawl 377 to bring the pawl f24 (fig. 11, 13 and 16) into the inactive position (auxiliary rack 2,8'3). When the pawl 377 (fig. 16) swings, the spout 3'76, turns the rod 374 and the amber 372 so that the angled levers 370 and 3,
71 (fig. Lië and there) bring the pawls 316 and 318 for the racks, main 2; 79 (row of units) and 2:80 (row of tens) in the active position. However, movement of the pawl 316 is impeded by the pin 382 (of the pawl 365, so that the rack of the row of units can move.
In addition, a square 386 (fig. 13 and 15) of the pawl 3165 cooperates with a square 3.87 of the pawl 318, prevents, up <B> the latter </B> from coming into the active position, so that the mesh of the tens row is also released.
As no key is pressed in the tens row, the rack moves up to "9".
The pawl 32: 1 for the auxiliary ratchet 281 of this tens row (Fig. 10) is moved away from its active position by the depression of a key in the row of units. On the other hand, the other pawl 322 for the rack 281 remains, in its active position,
since no key is pressed in the tens row. The auxiliary rack 2 & is therefore held in the zero position. Finally, the fact of inserting a key in the row of.
cen taines brings in inactive position the pawl 32'4 (fig. 11) for the auxiliary rack 283 of the hundreds row, but as a key has been pressed in the row of units, the square 386 (fig. 13 < B>)
</B> cooperates with the square .38i5 @ of the pawl 323 which is also brought into position. inactive. Therefore, the auxiliary rack 2813 of the hundreds row is coupled to,
the main rack 2I8'2 :. As, on the other hand, the latter is released from the pawl 320; thanks to the lifting of the rod 346, the assembly of these two racks moves to be stopped at a position before the nonuale position, ie (say "5" in the particular case.
7. Finally the last case: to consider. Is the one in which a key is pressed in each (of the three rows, for the number "444" for example. The additional number is "5 (56",
it is @ to- @ d @ ü @ a that the main rack, of the row of units is stopped at position @ of the button, those of,
rows of tens and cenkines (at a position before the normal position of the pressed key.
When a key is pressed in the row of units, the pawl 3 (65 (fig. 13 to <B> 1-6) </B> releases the pawl 321, @ so that the hook 3159 can lift the rod 3:
46 and move the pawls 31.7, 319, 320 in the inactive position for the three main racks 279, 280, 282. The pawl 316 (fie.
14) is brought into the inactive position by the rotation of the pawl 316.5 and this via the pin 382. By the rotation of this pawl 365, the bracket 3M6 (fie. 13) cooperates with the bracket 387 of the ratchet 318 for the main rack 2M0 and with the square:
385 of the pawl 323 (fie. 11) for the auxiliary rack 383 of the hundreds row, so that the pawls 318 and 323 are also born in the inactive position.
By lowering a key in the tens row, the bolt 2175 and the pawl 367 are moved with the pawl 322.
Simultaneously, the nozzle 375 (fie. 1.3 and 15) turns the shaft 372 and the elbow levers 370 and 371 in the dextrorsal direction. However, as the keys pressed in the rows of units and tens maintain, by the bolts 275,
the pawls 365 and 367 in the tilted position, the studs .382 and 380 (fie. 14 and 1.5) positively maintain the clicks 3,16 and 318 in the inactive position shown in the cases figures, so that the rotation of tree 372 has, in this case,
with no influence on these pawls. The main racks of the ones and tens rows can therefore move freely.
Given, however, that the pawl 3'21 (fie. 10 and 11) for the auxiliary rack of the tens row is brought into the inactive position by depressing a key in the ones row and that the pawl 322 is also in the inactive position by depressing a key in the tens row, the coupling pawl 299 couples the auxiliary rack 281 to the main rack 280 of the tens row,
so that the assembly is stopped at a position before the normal position, ie "5" in the particular case.
The depression of a key in the row of hundreds finally brings into inactive position the pawl 324 for the auxiliary rack 283. As the other pawl 323 is also brought into the inactive position by the square 386 (fie. 13) of the pawl 321, the coupling pawl 300 (fie. 11) causes the auxiliary rack 283 to couple with the main rack 282 of the hundreds row. The lifting of the rod 346 has the effect of maintaining the pawl 320 for the main rack 282 in the inactive position.
Likewise, the stud 381 maintains the pawl 320 in the inactive position so that the assembly of the two racks can move to be stopped one position before the normal position. In this example, it is therefore the number "556" which is recorded subtractively in the counter.
The counter keys are recalled towards the end of the operation, by the senestrorsum rotation of the shaft 219 (fie. 4), in turn as for the upright keys. In fact, with regard to each row of the counter, the shaft 219 carries an arm 388, a roller 389 of which acts on an inclined edge 390 of the locking bolts 276 which thus move to the right, allowing the pressed keys to be called back. At the start of each operation, the rotation in the senestrorsum direction of another arm 203 (fie.
4) brings a cross member 391 on the path of lugs 392 carried by each of the bolts 276, thus blocking the keys whatever their position.
Total <I> </I> operation. - We will now examine the operating conditions in total operations. When the addition-subtraction totalizer is set to zero, the balance is printed in the column of the account card designated for this purpose (fie. 2). At the same time, the counter is reset to zero and the accumulated number is printed in the "Number" column.
For additions or any other operation than total, the printing sectors 288 of the counter do not print. Indeed, when the paper carrier 66 (fie. 3) is in a column other than the "Balance" column, an extension 438 of the corresponding stopper 192 acts on a bracket 409 of a lever 440 whose another upper branch carries a cross member 441 (fig. 4). This crossing is, in this case, brought, against the action of a spring 442, on the path of a shoulder 443 of the arm carrying the printing sector 288.
The cleat 444 provided for the "Balance" column does not include an extension 438, so that for this position the cross member 441 is not in the path of the shoulders 443 and the printing sectors are released and can operate.
At the start of each total or subtotal operation, the shaft 219, using means known per se, pivots in the senestror- sum direction (fig. 4) in order to recall which of the keys could have remained. sunken. This rotation of the shaft 219 causes the roller 389 to act on the edges 393 of the bolts 275 provided in each of the rows of the meter. These bolts are therefore moved to the left and the pawls 365, 367 and 377 tilted in the senestrous direction, exactly as if a key 72 were pressed in each of the rows of the counter.
The transverse rod 346 then raises the pawls 317, 319, 320 (fig. 14 to 16) for the three main racks 279, 280, 282.
Studs 382 and 380 hold pawls 316 and 318 in position. inactive, so that the three main racks can be moved freely. As for the auxiliary racks 281 and 283 (fig. 10 and 11), they could be coupled with their main rack, but this has no influence since no key is pressed and the stopping of the racks is produced by the number accumulated in the counter.
In balance operations, the pinions 291, 292 and 293 (fig. 6) are engaged with the main racks 279, 280 and 282 before they move to the right and, during this movement, turn in the senestrorsum direction. until the transfer tooth 294 (fig. 4) meets the transfer spout 295, which corresponds to the zero position. The movement is transmitted to the printing segments which print the number recorded in the counter, in the "Number" column of account card 410 (fig. 2).
<I> Command of the </I> counter <I> for transactions with negative balance. - </I> As we have seen above, when a negative balance arises, the complement which is in the addition-subtraction totalizer must be transformed into an effective balance, which is achieved , in the machine described by way of example, by an uninterrupted cycle of three operations (or four as appropriate). During the first operation of this cycle, the complement of the negative balance is extracted from the totalizer for Beech simultaneously recorded in an auxiliary totalizer.
During the second operation of the cycle, the complement is recorded subtractively in the addition-subtraction totalizer, so that at this time, the latter contains the actual amount of balance. During the third operation of the cycle, this actual balance is drawn and printed. It was also indicated above that the printing unit was disengaged during the first two operations of the cycle. It is therefore necessary to retain the counter cranks in zero position during the first and second operations of a cycle of this kind, so that the reset of the counter does not take place before the printing cycle.
The following device is used: for this purpose: We see in fig. 6 that a cam 394 is integral with the cam 134 and cooperates with a roller 395 carried by a lever 396 connected by a connecting rod 397 to an elbow lever <B> 398 </B> fixed on a shaft 399. The latter carries , at its other end (fig. 7), an arm 400 of which a pin 401 is engaged in a slot 402 made in a lever 403 pivoting at 404. The lower end of this lever can act on a roller 405 of the slider 350 serving, as we have seen, to position the distinctive symbols.
When the "Negative balance" key 77 is pressed (fig. 12), the cam 394 rotates somewhat in the senestorsum direction to move one of its large diameter parts away from the gate 395. The shaft 399 and the arm 400 can then turn in the dextrorsum direction (fig. 6), which switches the lever 403 (fig. 7) in the dextrorsal direction and moves the cursor 350 to the left;
therefore, the connecting rod 351 (fig. 17 and 19) rotates the shaft 335 to bring the edge 353 of the arm 354 above the square 332 of the slide 328. Likewise, the arm 334 is spaced from the path of the square 332. Normally, this movement has the effect of moving the blade 325 away from the heels 314 that include the main racks of the counter. It will be seen later, however, that in this case the blade 325 is held in the position shown, but only in negative balance transactions.
We saw above that by pressing key 77 (fig. 12), lever 131 swings in the dextrorsum direction. This movement is communicated by a connecting rod 407 connected to an arm 408 of a caliper rotating at 409. The nose 415 integral with the caliper 408 is placed below a part 416 of the blade 325 which is thus held in place. position. Consequently, the main racks 279, 280, 282 of the counter are kept at the zero position. during the first two operations of the cycle.
Towards the end of the second operation, a boss of the cam 134 (fig. 12) causes the lever 131 to swing in the senestorsum direction, a movement which has the effect, thanks to the parts 407, 409, of moving away from the blade 325 nose 415. As a result, the racks of the counter can at this moment move, during the third operation of the cycle, and take the position corresponding to the number accumulated in the counter, which number is then printed.
Operation. - A numerical example will be described with reference to the account card 410 (fig. 2). The transfer of 1000 francs comes from the previous card and is entered additionally in the addition-subtraction totalizer, just as it is printed in the "Payments" column. On February 14, 1935, three separate checks of 100 francs each were issued.
These amounts were recorded subtractively in the addition-subtraction totalizer and printed in the "Checks" column. For each of these subtractions the counter has automatically advanced by one. The same day,
the customer paid 250 francs and this amount was added up and printed in the column "Payments". The balance of 950 francs was printed by a total transaction in the "Balance" column and simultaneously
the counter has been emptied, the number has # umulated, ie "3", being printed in the;, Number "column.
On February 15, three checks for 35! 0, 100 and 100 francs respectively were written to the account card. The first and third were recorded normally, i.e. the counter has advanced one unit each time,
while the second, recorded by pressing the "Subtraction" key 73, has not been counted. The printing of a distinctive sign (NC = Not Counted) draws attention to this point.
The balance was then drawn, the sum of 400 francs printed in the "Balance" column and the number "2" in the "Number" column.
On February 16, twenty-five checks went to Frs. 500 were counted in a single transaction.
