Vise <I>en</I> place <I>des zéros.</I>
<I>Mécanisme</I> ele répitio-n.
Alignement <I>des</I> roues irnhri@ita,ri-tes.
Roqies imprima-rdes pour <I>les</I> nltniéros <I>de</I> référence. Alignement.

The machine shown and which will be described can be used years bank counters and. it provides detailed information about withdrawals and deposits made by bank customers, the main part of the machine being. fully described in Swiss Patent No. 288478 to which one can. see for a more complete description of some mechanisms which are only briefly alluded to here.
The coaches and. their control are fully described in the above mentioned Swiss patent, so that a very brief mention is made here.
In the present machine, a coupling device is provided between the post drivers and the character positioning mechanism and it is. coupling and the way in which it is controlled which allows the realization of perfected mechanisms for the control of the characters, the control of the zeros and the. repetition.
In the present embodiment, the amount printing characters comprise positions zero to nine and a neutral position, the character wheel being moved by the differential mechanism first to the neutral position and then to a position corresponding to the amounts key which <i was used. When no printing is to be done, the character wheel remains at. his, neutral position.
The mechanism for placing characters will be described in detail in what follows. To ensure printing, on a card.
on a control slip and on an outgoing tape, the amounts to be recorded in the totalisers, it is. provided three groups of printing wheels mounted on \ shafts 46, (fig. 13A and 13B). The shafts 463 are supported by bearings carried themselves by auxiliary plates 03 so as to constitute a separate group of printing wheels for each section.
Each printing wheel -165 (fig. 1. represents a tens printing wheel) is positioned in proportion to the amount registered by means of the differential device. This controls, in fact, a slide 466 (fi.? And 7) suitably guided by cross members 291. and 292. At each operation, the slide 466 takes a position which represents the figure recorded and remains in this position until the next operation.
At each cycle, when a universal bar 310 sorrel in the dextrorsum direction around a shaft 31'3 (see also fig. 1.) to release a driver <B> '</B> 90, this bar 310 comes in contact with the ridge .167 (fig. 7) of the slider 466 and moves the latter to the right in a position which will be designated in the following as the elimination position, so called because it corresponds the elimination of zero (the said wheel 465 or in other words a position without printing character.
After reading the coach a. been adjusted differential lenieiii under the control of a key of amounts 100 or a stop-stop at zero <B> 271, </B> as it is. described in Swiss Patent No. 290939, and once slide 466 has been moved to the elimination position, driver 90 and slide 466 are coupled by a pivoting arm 468. in 469 on the; lissière 466.
This arm 468 is provided with two coupling teeth 470 (Fig. 10) which can engage with corresponding teeth made on the drive 290. Normally the teeth 470 are. in mesh with this toothing, but before the universal bar 310 moves, they are. so that the driver 290 and the treadmill 466 can be positioned independently of each other. After which, the coupling arm. 468 is returned to its coupling position.
At this moment, the universal bar 31.0 sorrel in the senestror- siiiii direction and comes to pick up the driver 290 from the previous position to bring it back to the initial position.
During this movement, the slide 466 is driven from the elimination position to that which corresponds to the recorded number. Engaging and disengaging the coupling arm. 468 are. carried out using a cam arm 471 (fig. 10) mounted on the shaft <B> 333. </B> This arm 471 is provided with a cam track 472 engaged with a rod 473 s 'lying on the. width (the machine so 1i act on all the arms 471 of each differential row. This rod 473 is. carried by three arms 474 pivoting on a shaft 332.
Near (the center of the machine and the middle arm 474 is arranged an arm 475 (see also Fig. 9) forked at its upper end to engage with the bar 473. A pawl 476, pivoting on the arm 475 in <B> -177, </B> presents a spout 478 which is normally located on the path of a shoulder 479 (fign 70) formed on an arm 480 connected by a sleeve to a lever 481.
This one carries two -alets -182 cooperating. with a double (-anre 483 fixed on a main shaft 229.
During the operation of the machine, the main shaft 229 rotates in the dextrorsum direction lfif ,. 10) and the double cam 483 switches the lever 481. in the senestrorsum direction then in the opposite direction.
During the first movement, the shoulder 479 comes. engaged <with the nose 478 of the pawl 476 and done. pivot the arm 475, the shaft 332 as well as the bar 473 in the senestrorsum direction, from where it. The result is that the coupling arm 471- rocks in the opposite direction, which has the effect of bringing a finger 484 on the path of a stud 485 carried by the coupling arm 468, which is disengaged from the teeth of the 'trainer 290.
Once the latter has been brought to the desired position under the control of the buttons of the uprights or the zero stop pawl 271 and the; slide 466 has been brought to its elimination position, cam 483 oscillates lever 481 and arm 480 which, by finger 486, acts on bar -173 and returns the latter to the position of FIG. 10. This movement is repeated through the cam track 472 to lift the arm -171 so that, through the stud 485, the teeth 470 again mesh with the teeth of the driver 290.
Once the coupling arm 468 is re-engaged with the driver, the universal bar 310 returns the driver to its rest position and, since the slide 466 is coupled with the driver, it is brought to a position. corresponding to the number recorded in the totalizer.
Each arm 474 is. provided with an extension 487 coming into contact. normally. with a 488 rod including. the aim is to keep these arms 474 and the bar 473 in the rest position.
Referring to fig. 5, it can be seen that the edge 490 of the arm 471, which normally supports the stud 485, is located in a plane parallel to the path of this stud which can thus move freely. When the arm 471 is tilted (fig. 6), the lower edge 489 of the finger 484 is in a plane which allows the free movement of the pin 485. Therefore, for each position of the arm 471, the edges 489 and 490 maintain the arm in either the engaged or disengaged position, over the full range of motion. These ridges constitute a kind of locking for the coupling arm 468 in its two positions.
Referring to Figs. 1, 5, 6 and 7, we will have a better idea of the way in which the positioning of the slide 466 for adjusting the printing elements is carried out. These figures show the parts in successive positions. The normal position of the differential mechanism is shown in fig. 1 and 5. When the machine is operating without the upright key pressed in the row in question, it is the pawl 271 which controls the position of the driver 290.
At the start of the cycle, the .173 bar sorrel in the senestrorsunu direction to disengage the coupling arm 168 from the driver 290 and the stop pawl at zero? 71 is, lowered on the path of a 29th square (fis . 6). After the movement of the universal bar 310, the driver 290 is delivered to the action of a spring 307 and moved until the square 298 comes into contact with a square 297 of the zero stop pawl , which stops the trainer (fig. 6).
The universal bar 310 continues its movement and comes. strike the edge 4167 of the printing slide 466 which is thus moved to the elimination position (fig. 7 <B>) </B>, after which the coupling arm 168 is tilted again to engage with the teeth of the trainer, which is represented in fis. 7. During. the return movement of the bar 310, the major part of its range of motion is empty and, when it comes into contact with a shoulder 309 of the driver, the latter is driven back to the posi tion of rest.
During this movement, the printing slide 166 is. moved as much out of its rest position, since the two slides are coupled. In the example of operation which is described, the trainer is moved one step out of position (rest to its zero position, while slide 466 is moved from the eliminated position. nation at position zero.
The positioning of the slide 4-66, for example for the number 5, is shown in figs. 2, 3 and 4. In this case, once the coupling arm 168 has been disengaged from the driver 290, the latter moves to the right until it is stopped by button 5. pressed (fig. 2).
The universal bar 310 continuing its movement, it touches the edge 467 of the slider 466 and moves the latter to the position shown in FIG. 3, which is the. elimination position, while the differential trainer is in position 5. After this positioning, the coupling arm 168 is lifted by the bar -173 (fig. 3) and the arm 468 couples the slide 466 with the driver 290.
When the universal bar returns to its rest position, the driver 290 is also returned to. its initial position and, during this movement, the. slide 166, which is coupled, moves six steps, that is to say. elimination position at position 5 shown in fis. 4.
At the end of the operation, the coupling arm 468 remains in engagement with the teeth of the driver 290 of which. it is separated at the start of the following operation, a characteristic which is important for allowing repetition operations, as will be seen later.
The printing wheel 465, for the tens (fig. 1) in each section shown in fi-. 13A and 13B, is put in position (the as follows: The slide 166 has (slow 496 (fig. 1 to 7) engaged with a pinion 197 rotating on a -198 ale (see also fis.
14-B). The pinion 197 is connected by iun sleeve 199 to its segment 500 meshing with a toothed ring 501 comprising internal teeth 502, which itself meshes with a small pinion 5013 carried by a square axis 504-. The latter extends over the width of all the printing sections.
In alignment with each printing wheel -165 of the three groups are arranged (the crowns 505, 506 and 507. The square shaft 50-1 carries, in the eyes of each of these crowns, a pinion similar to a pinion 503 and (him meshes with internal toothing of crowns <B> 505, </B> 506, 507.
The latter are provided with teeth, 508 in engagement with notches provided in the printing wheels 465, so that these wheels can. take a position proportional to that of the corresponding rings.
It can be seen from the above that the adjustment of the slide -166 is transmitted to the pinion 197, to the segment 500, to the.
crown 501, pinion 503, shaft 501 and crowns 505, 506 and 507 and, (there, the printing wheels. A similar mechanism is provided for the row, bread example (the clix millions, that shown in Figures 1, 73A, 13B, 1.1A, 14B.
For this particular row, no printing wheel was provided in the printing section (the sheet. In the ten million row, a pinion <B><I>515</I> </B> 1.1 A) is engaged with a pinion similar to pinion 497 and integral with a ring, <B> 51.7 </B> by means of a hub 516. This segment at @, comes with a ring gear 518 rotating on a disc 631 attached to a shaft 632.
The 4-ouronzie 7518 has internal teeth meshing with a pinion 519 mounted on a square shaft 520 which extends between the two side frames. The shaft carries two other pinions, placed inside each ring gear 521 and .522 respectively, to drive these rings in proportion to the movement of the ring gear 518.
The crowns: and 522 are. meshing with a idler gear # ï '_' 3 carried by a shaft 524 and meshing respectively with crowns 525 (fig. 13A) and 526 (fig. 1.3p), themselves meshing with (the printing wheels 527 of the ten million row.
The two groups of crowns, one comprising. the crowns 501 and the disks 509 mounted on a shaft 510, and the other comprising the crowns 521 and the disks 631. mounted on the shaft 632, constitute a mechanism for fitting the machine and key to adapt it to different accounting systems. 1; n effect, the printing wheels can. be assembled on the shafts at any position taken across the width of the machine.
It is possible, if desired, to add an additional printing line below the belts 521 in case a system requires. heavens printing lines and that without completely modifying the mechanism. Aim <I> in </I> places <I> zeros. </I>
Sliders 466 are ordered so that zeros are not printed to the left of the first significant digit. We have seen above that this slide is. brought into a position of elimination for each operation, before being put into position by the universal bar. To eliminate the printing of zeros to the left of the significant digit, it.
is enough to prevent the. slide 466 from being moved back to its elimination position as universal bar 310 returns it to its normal position. It has already been explained that the differential axis 290 changes from a normal position to a zero position when no up key is present. depressed in the row considered, movement which corresponds to a step. To prevent the slide from deviating from the elimination position, the differential driver is therefore maintained in its normal position before coupling by the arm 468.
When the driver is returned to its normal position, before coupling with the slide, it occurs, at the time of the return by the universal bar 310, the slide 466 remains in place, leaving a blank position in front of the hammer. impression.
To move the driver 290 from its zero position to its rest position (fig. 5, 6 and 7) before coupling with the. slide 466, there is provided a pawl 531 in the form of a caliper and rotating on a rod 532 carried by cam arms 533, which pivot. in 534. A res out 535, disposed between the pawl. 531 and another arm 536 also pivoting on the shaft 534, maintains a nose 537 of the pawl in contact with a rod 538 carried by three of the four arms 311. One of the pawls 531 is pivotally mounted on a rod 532 for each row of uprights greater than the row of decimes.
The arm 536 arranged in each of these rows has a finger provided with a flat 539 normally maintained in contact with a stud 540 carried by the differential driver, under the action of the spring 535. Each of the three arms 311 carries a roller 541 engaged in a cam track 542 of the arms 533.
When the machine is at rest, the rollers 541 are in the left part of the cam tracks 542 (fig. 5), and when the arms 311 move in the dextrorsum direction to drive the universal saddle bar 310, the rollers 541 move in the cam tracks 542 and cause the arms 533 to oscillate in the senestorsum direction. The rod 538 is spaced from below the jaws 537 of the pawls 531, leaving the springs to act on the pawls 531 which tilt in the dextrorsum direction. As seen in fig. 6,
the driver 290 is stopped at its zero position by the pawl 2711 and the ratchet 531, once released, is placed behind the shoulder 5-13 provided on the driver (fig. 6).
At this moment, the universal bar 310 continues its movement by moving the slide 466 to its elimination position and, in doing so, the rollers 5.11 continuing their movement in the cam tracks 542, tilt the arms 533 in the senestorsum direction. , which returns the driver to the left under the action of the pawl 531, that is to say to the rest position (fig. 7).
After this movement, the coupling arm -168 comes into the active position and, when the universal bar 310 is returned to the initial position, it does not change the position of the driver if the latter has been brought into position. rest by the pawl 531, so that, for this particular case, the printing slide 466 is not. not moved either and remains in the elimination position.
The above highlights the way. a differential mechanism is driven to prevent printing of a zero. If, on the contrary, an amount is dialed in a row of decimal order higher than that in which no key is pressed, a zero must be printed in this lower row. To do this, it suffices to prevent the pawl 531. of that row from coming into contact with the shoulder 543 (the corresponding driver.
For this purpose, a bracket 544 (FIG. 8) is provided on each pawl 531 and located below a shoulder 545 of the pawl 531 of the row immediately above. If one of the pawls 53l is. prevented from coming on the path of the shoulder .543, then the brackets 544 of all lower rows remain in the down position, so that, although a key is not. not depressed in a lower row, the pawls 531 remain in their down position, allowing the impression of a zero.
If the pawls 531 are. thus maintained in their low position and when the universal bar 310 and the arms 31.1 pass, in their middle positions shown in FIG. 6, the pawls remain inactive, leaving the drivers 290 in the zero position.
Once the 46S recut arm is engaged, the universal bar is returned to the rest position and, during this movement, brings the trainer to its position. initial position, which moves the print slide 466 one step from the elimination position to that corresponding to zero.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 show the members used to prevent eliqnets 531. (the coming on the path. Of the shoulders 513 in those of the rows in which a post is, composed. For the case of fig. 'And 3, it is button 5 which is pressed and the driver 290 is in the corresponding position.
By thus coming to the. position 5, the stud 5-10 is moved away from the shoulder. 539 of the arm 536, so that the spring 535 can oscillate the arm 536 in the forward direction until a notch 546 staples the pawl 531 to retain it in its lowered position under the action of the spring . 535.
It can be seen from the foregoing that all the pawls 531 of the rows in which the driver 290 passes beyond. of the zero position are. locked by arms <B> 536 </B> and (read pawls 531 in rows below that in which driver 290 passes past zero are held in the lowered position by the interaction of shoulders 54 :) and .544 squares, which corresponds to the printing of zeros in lower decimal orders.
<I> Mechanism </I> ele respitio-n. The differential driver 290 of the uprights can be controlled to repeat the number recorded previously.
To the. end of an operation, the slides 466, for the printing elements, remain. to the acquired position, and the coupling arm. 468 remains in its active position for which the driver 290 and the slide 466 are coupled. For repeat operations, the arm -168 is maintained in its coupling position, during the entire operation and since no key of uprights 100 can be pressed for this kind of operation, it is there. slide 466 which controls the movement (the trainer 290.
When the machine is triggered for a repeat operation and when the uni ... verso bar 310 sorrel in the dextrorsal direction, this bar contacts the ridge 467 <B> (the </B> slide 466 which is located be moved with the driver 290 to the right, until it abuts against the edge 561 (fig. 2) of the spacer 291.
This movement is. of such magnitude that the differential driver is moved in proportion to the amount previously recorded. When universal bar 310 returns to recall trainer 290 and 1a. slide 466 in the normal position, the amount fixed on this slide is recorded in the totalizer.
The mechanism just described can also be used to transfer one total from one totalizer to another. Such an operation is carried out by first resetting a totalizer and, at the end of the operation, the slide 466 occupies a position representing the total extracted from the totalizer. If using a selecting key. another totalizer simultaneously with the Repeat key 114, the total carried by slide 466 is then recorded by the newly selected totalizer.
An interlock system, described later, prevents the repeat key from being lowered while an upright key is pressed and. reciprocally. A member, not shown, prevents the zero stop pawl 'M from becoming active during a repeat operation.
The mechanism which keeps the coupling arm 468 in the active position during a single operation (the repetition is shown in .. 9 and 10. It consists of parts which are under the control of the repeater button 11.4 and which make , swing the coupling pawl 476 out of the path of the shoulder 479 of the arm 480.
A cam 562 (fig. 9), fixed on the main shaft 229, controls the movement of this pawl 476. The cam 562 cooperates with a roller 563 carried by an arm) 64 mounted idle on the shaft 312. This arm 564 has a notch which can engage with a stud 565 carried by an arm 566 of a three-branch lever 567. A spring 568 holds it. normally the roller 563 in contact with the periphery of the cam 562. The lever <B> 567 </B> carries a stud 569 which is in the path of the coupling pawl 476.
Another branch of this lever is connected by a connecting rod 570 to a disc 571 carried by a set of toothed rings, like that which has been described above. The fi-. 14A shows the place of the disc 571, which is provided with an internal toothing 572 in engagement with a pinion 573 carried by a square axis 574 which extends over the width of the machine. This axis carries another pinion 573 meshing with the internal teeth of a disc 575 (fis. 14B). The latter is connected by a connecting rod 576 (fig. 9) to an elbow lever <B> 577 </B> pivoting at 578 on a fixed chi-keyboard plate, near the first row of transactions. It is in this first row that the Repeat button is located. 114 with a square pin 579.
The elbow lever 577 has a square 580 which, when this lever rotates in the senestorsum direction, comes into contact with the square stud 579 if the key 114 is not depressed. When lowering this, stud 579 is. moved away from the square 580. During the operation of the machine, when the cam 562 turns, the res output 568 causes the arm 564 to swing in the dextrorsum direction so that the pin 565 oscillates the three-branch lever 567, moving which is permitted for this type of operation, since the square 580 is not retained by the stud 579 of the Repeat button.
As a result of these movements, the stud 569 rotates the coupling pawl 476 in the senestorsum direction to move the beak 478 away from the path of the shoulder 479. At the same time, the stud 569 enters a notch 581. of the arm 475 which is thus locked. When the cam 483 oscillates the arm 480, this movement takes place in an idle manner, so that the arms 474 remain stationary. It is the same for the rod 473 passing through the cam track 472, so that the coupling pawl 468 is maintained in its position coupling the differential 290 and the slide 466 for the back and forth movement.
Before the. universal bar 310 returns to its initial position, the cams -183 cause the arm 480 to oscillate in its normal position shown in fig. 1.0, after which the cam 562, touching. the roller 563 swings the arm 564 to its normal position of FIG. 9, which has the effect of moving the pin 569 away from the notch 587, while, simultaneously, the square 580 is returned to its normal position of FIG. 9.
During machine operation, without repetition, the ratchet. coupling. 476 is brought into its active position on the path of the shoulder. .179 by the square 580 of the elbow lever 577, the square which comes into contact with the square stud 579 of the button 114 not depressed.
During such an operation, only a slight movement under the action of the spring 568 occurs, which is not sufficient to bring the stud 569 into the notch 581. Therefore, the pawl 476 remains in the active position and the cams 483 actuate arm 475, as described above, to move apart coupling pawl 468 prior to initial movement of differential 290.
At the start of a repeat operation, the runners -166 controlling the printing press are all in the. previously acquired position, which includes. also those which are controlled by the mechanism of printing of the zeros. It is. It is necessary that the slides .166 control the differential driver 290 to repeat the previous amount, so that this control takes priority over that which derives from the mechanism (the zeros.
We have. provided a special device to disengage the control mechanism of the zeros during the repeating operations and, for this purpose, the cam arm 471 (fig. 9), located in the highest decimal row, carries an arm 585 provided with a stud 586 in contact, under the action of a spring, with. an elbow lever 587 pivoting at 534. This elbow lever is normally in contact with the pawl 531 of the upper decimal row to prevent its movement.
Since, during the repeating operations, the cam arm 471 is not moved from its normal position, the pawl 531 of the upper row remains locked during the repetition and, thanks to the brackets 54-1 (fig. 8), retains all the pawls 531 of the lower rows in the lowered position, which corresponds to disengaging the zero mechanism.
During normal operation, i.e. without using the Repeat key, when the bar -173 sorrel in the dextrorsum direction to disengage the coupling pawl 468 and allow the differential 290 to move in proportion to the value of the key pressed, the arm 585 of the uppermost row, acting by the stud 586, switches the elbow lever <B> 5S7 </B> to release the pawl 531 of this uppermost row, which has the result is that the pawls 531 are released which can thus perform their normal functions.
When the angle lever 5S7 is returned to its initial position, at the end of an operation without repeating, the pawls 531. are s, 3, again locked by the angle lever 587.
<I> wheel alignment </I> irnhri @ ita, laughs. Once the printing wheels have been put in position by the differential mechanisms and the toothed rings. their position is, fixed by (the aligners 1201 (fig. 1, 11, 13A and 13B), the aligner being provided in each of the three printing sections.
The three aligner: s are. pinned on Lin tree 1.202 extending. between the frames <B> '</B> 03 and carry an arm 1203 (fi-, 11 and 1: 3B) connected to an arm 1204 by a connecting rod 1.200. The arm 1.204 pivots on the shaft 786 and ends with two rollers 1205 cooperating with a double cam 1.206 fixed on the main shaft 229.
The shape of the cam 1206 is such that immediately after the positioning of the toothed rings, the cam switches the arm 1204 in the senestorsuni direction to push the connecting rod 1200 to the left (fig. 11), which movement is. transmitted to the arm 1203 and to the aligner 1201, which thus compensates for the play which could have occurred between the toothed rings and the differentials.
Shortly before printing, as described later, a second aligner engages with the printing wheels themselves, in order to ensure perfect alignment of the printing characters, this second aligner consisting of a bar 1207 ( fig. 12, 13A. and 13p) for each print section. Each bar 1207 is carried by two rods 1208 articulated to an arm 1209 thanks to <<a rod 1210.
The left end of the links 1208 is provided with a roller 1.211 which engages with openings 1212 made in the plates 203.
The arms 1209 are fixed on a shaft 1213 carrying, on the other hand, an arm 1214 connected by a rod 1216 to a lever 1215 rotating sitr the shaft 786. The lever 1215 ends with a roller 121.7 cooperating with a cam 1218 under the action of a spring 1219. The cam 1218 is fixed on the main shaft 229. The lever 121.5 ends with a nose 1221 which can cooperate with a block 1220 riveted to the side of the cam 1.218.
The shape of the cam 1218 is such that the printing wheels placed in position and. the aligner 1201 engaged with the toothed crowns, the bar 1207 is abruptly moved in the. alignment position, thanks to the mechanical chain described. The cam <B> 1218 </B> turns in the dextrorsum direction and, when the block 12'20 acts on the nose 1221, the spring 1219 pulls the connecting rod 1216 to the left, which turns the shaft 1213 and the arm 1 _09 in the senestrorsum direction and therefore move the bar 1207 into engagement with the teeth of the character holder.
Some of the printing elements include. ten entredents and other twelve, like the date wheels, for example. To achieve correct alignment, bar 1207 is set somewhat apart, so as to engage between the teeth of the printing elements and properly align characters.
Roqies printed for <I> the </I> references <I> of </I>. Alignment. A printing wheel 1225 and two other wheels 1226 (FIG. 13A) are provided for printing a number identifying, for example, the bank branch number and the number of the machine which carries out the transactions. This printing is usually done on the deposit form. These wheels are fixed in the desired position when the machine is assembled and remain fixed.
An aligner <B> 1227, </B> mounted on the shaft 1202, penetrates between the teeth of the toothed rings 1228 which, in turn, mesh with the printing wheels 1225 and 1226. The aligner is held in position by a screw 1229 which passes through a square of the aligner and which is fixed, on the other hand, to a spacer 201. To modify the numbers on the wheels 1225 and 1226, the screw 1229 is removed and the shaft 1202 is manually tilted to release the crowns 1228, after which the printing wheels can be moved by hand. The aligner and screw 1229 are then put back in place.
