Process for the production of a metal-containing azo dye. It has been found that a new, valuable, metal-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0007
lets chromium-releasing agents act in such a way that a chromium-containing azo dye is formed which contains two ionoazo dye molecules bound to a chromium atom in a complex.
The new dye forms a red-brown powder that dissolves in water with an orange color and dyes wool from an acetic acid bath in orange tones.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling the 1- (4'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone using methods known per se, eg. B. by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite, diazotized 2-amino-l-oxybenzene - 4-stzlfonsäureanilid-2'-carboxylic acid can be produced.
The treatment with the chromium-releasing agents takes place, as already mentioned, in such a way that a chromium-containing dye is available which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to one atom of chromium in a complex. Accordingly, the chromizing is carried out appropriately with such chromium-releasing agents. and by methods which, according to experience, deliver complex chromium compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one, but at least half an atom of chromium on a molecule of a dye and / or to carry out the chromating in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium. Accordingly, those chromium compounds that are stable in an alkaline medium are particularly well suited for carrying out the process, such as. B. such chromium compounds of aliphatic oxycarboxylic acids or preferably, aromatic o-oxycarboxylic acids, which contain the chromium in a complex bond.
The chrome plating is done with advantage in the heat, open or under pressure, z. B. at the boiling point of the reaction mixture, ge where appropriate in the presence of suitable additives to, for. B. in the presence of salts of organic acids, bases, organic solvents or other means that promote the complex formation.
Example: 30.8 parts by weight of 1-oxy-2-aminobenzene-4-sulfonic acid-N-phenylamide-2'-carboxylic acid are dissolved in 150 parts of water and 22 parts of 10N sodium hydroxide solution. The clear solution obtained is mixed with 25 parts of 4N sodium nitrite solution and, at 0 to 2, added dropwise to a mixture of 110 parts of water and 40 parts of 10N hydrochloric acid.
The resulting pale yellow diazo suspension is neutralized with sodium carbonate and added to an ice-cold solution of 22.9 parts of 1- (4'-chloro) phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone in 150 parts of water, 10 parts of 10n -Sodium hydroxide solution and 15 parts by weight of sodium carbonate. After the coupling has ended, the dye is completely separated off by adding sodium chloride and filtered.
The filter cake obtained in this way is suspended in 1500 parts of water and refluxed for several hours with 150 parts of a chromium sodium salicylate solution containing 2.67% chromium. The resulting solution is neutralized by adding acetic acid and the chromium complex formed is separated out by adding sodium chloride, filtered and dried.
