Abstract

Se hace referencia a un nuevo gen de elongasa que tiene la secuencia ID. De SEC.No. 1: o sus derivados, a una construccion genética que comprende esta secuencia o sus derivados y a su uso. La secuencia de ácido nucleico de la invencion codifica un polipéptido que elonga ácido alfa-linolénico (C18:3 d9, 12, 15) en al menos dos átomos de carbono, mientras que el ácido gama-linolénico (C18:3 d6, 9, 12) no se elonga. Se refiere adicionalmente a vectores u organismos que comprenden un gen de elongasa que tiene la secuencia ID. de SEC. No.1, o sus derivados. Se hace referencia también a un proceso para la produccion de ácidos grasos poiinsaturados (=PUFAs) con un organismo que comprende el gen de elongasa y cuyo organismo produce grandes cantidades de aceites y, especialmente aceites con alto contenido de ácidos grasos insaturados. Adicionalmente, se refiere a una composicion de aceite y/o de ácido graso con un mayor contenido de ácidos grasos poliinsaturados C20 o C22 con al menos dos enlaces dobles y/o una composicion de triacilglicerol con un mayor contenido de dichos ácidos grasos poliinsaturados.
